Samsung SE-406A External Slim 3D Blu-ray Drive Announced

Samsung has announced its new slim external 3D Blu-ray drive, the SE-406A. The drive is USB powered, eliminating the need for an AC power adapter. Look for it to hit retailers this April.
The drive reads Blu-ray discs and reads/writes CDs and DVDs. It features Buffer Under Run technology to prevent stuttering playback. The SE-406A provides a variety of speeds across different media types including: 6X BD-R, 4X BD-R Dual Layer, 24X CD-ROM, 24X CD-RW, 8X DVD±R recording, 8X DVD-RAM recording, 6X DVD+R Dual Layer recording, 6X DVD-R Dual Layer recording, 8X DVD+RW recording and 6X DVD-RW recording.

The SE-406A comes with CyberLink TrueTheater "to test PC readiness for 3D and Blu-ray content,", so it is unclear whether this drive comes with software that will actually play Blu-ray discs.
The Samsung SE-406A will be available this April for MSRP of $150.

Thats not a bad price for that. If I decide I need a Blu Ray drive in the future than external looks like the way to go.
Don't forget you need a 3D TV and glasses for 3D.

IMO the 3D I've seen looks better and has much less strain on the eyes when the viewing screen is 24" or larger.
Asus has 120hz FHD monitors in 24" and 27" flavors to hook your non 3D notebook to.
The new nVidia 3D Vision kit has beed reduced in price by $50 and has better battery life than the old kit.
A monitor/3D Vision bundle should be cheaper than before.
The Samsung monitors look very nice too.

So if I had a non-3D laptop, I can hook it up to a 3D TV and as long as I have glasses, I'm good?

ORRRRRRR
I could just wait til the 3DTV that is glassesless comes out and is affordable, buy one of those, hook up my 460M and slip a 3D BD drive into mugh sager.
But what I will probably do is just build an HTPC and run it with a 3D BD drive in it =D and cut the satellite TV off.
I mean I have netflix and there is hulu (or hulu plus) that i can use for content. Probably some others I have forgotten. Oh and lets not forget that the interwebz is for pr0n, so i can stream that live when I feel like it too!

You might be waiting awhile for the 3DTV that is glassesless. I know we are starting to see that on the Nintendo DS and Cellphones, but those are pretty small screens :)
I have high hopes for the passive 3D technology. Certainly cheaper for glasses. I know LG is having some sets come out this year if they are not out already. Next year is when I will decide if I need to take the plunge into 3D or not. What kills me though is that I upgraded my Home receiver to a Denon 3808CI back in 09 I believe. Now they have the newer ones out with the HDMI 1.4 and a couple of more HDMI inputs. When I first got it it having 4 HDMI inputs I thought I would be good to go, but I now have more HDMI stuff than I do inputs on the Denon.:(

IMNSHO ODDS are very close to being obsolete.
I liked my old Toshiba Tecra S1 where I had a release on the bottom to eject the ODD and slide in a battery back or HDD bay.
The primary drive also slid out the side.
I'm hoping next year's Ivy Bridge models have a no internal ODD standard and external as option.
There's nothing we need them for.
My super great Internet service helps too.

I have never really used for more than making audio CD's.
