Ok, I`m just about ready to order the 5790 with the 7950 gtx card, and I`m wondering about a couple of things:
1) if I were to order it , say tomorrow, when would I have to pay for it
2) when exactly could I expect to see it? :)
Thanks, can`t wait to get this rig asap.

Justin@XoticPC
07-25-2007, 12:24 PM
You would pay for it at the time of order. (Usually charged within 24 hours).

Which screen are you interested in? The reason I ask is the WSXGA first shipment is not going to be in for 1-2 weeks. The WUXGA screen is in now and could ship in 3-5 business days :D

xpcdude
07-25-2007, 11:32 PM
I`m sticking to the 1680x1050 WXGA+ , it doesn`t justify for me the extra 95 $ just to get a higher resolution, but maybe you could explain clearer why there is a 195 $ difference from the standard "Matte" resolution, or maybe supply me with some links or videos that might convince me to go for the extra bucks...even so, I will pay a lot of money for the notebook , so I`m trying not to overextend unless it pays off.

So basically , in the worst case scenario, you would ship in 1-2 weeks , add 5 days for shipping and that means that in 3 weeks it would be here? or did I get it wrong? :P

Justin@XoticPC
07-26-2007, 12:02 AM
That is approximately correct on the delivery date. The matte doesnt product any glare on the display but it is not as vibrant as the Glare. Have you seen the different types in stores?

xpcdude
07-26-2007, 07:36 PM
I have...but it would be my first laptop with such a screen ... I am not sure, but I might order the 1920x1050 after all :P First of all, could you tell me aproximately how fast could I receive it if I were to order it with the WUXGA ? And also...how many more of them do you guys still have? ( cause if you have only a few, I should either hurry, or get ready to wait :D )

And one more question, which OS would you reccomend and why ? ( XP home+sp2 , XP pro sp2 , vista home 32/64 bit, or vista ultimate 32/64bit ?)
It is obvious that for the time being, this is a gaming laptop :)

Justin@XoticPC
07-28-2007, 08:30 AM
The WUXGA would go into building within 24 hours :) We still have quite a few WUXGA models available. It takes us on average 48-96 hours for shipment on these models at the present time.

I would go for the Ultimate, if it were me because Vista will be more mainstream in the near future and the Ultimate is the best version out. I would go 64-Bit if you want to use 4GB. 32-Bit OS's only show right around 3GB of Ram.

Did the 5790 just get cheaper ? :D

Justin@XoticPC
07-31-2007, 10:35 PM
Yes it did! It now comes stock with a cheaper video card (8700GT) :)

xpcdude
08-01-2007, 10:33 AM
Oh no, I just saw that the WSXGA+ is not available any more and the WUXSGA is 250 dollars more expensive! That is terrible! Not to mention that on the customisation page the 1x2GB module is not available either... WHY ? I need only 1 module in case I would want to upgrade later , and the fact that you only have 2 types of screens, with a difference of 250 made me think if I really want the 5790 any more :(

Justin@XoticPC
08-01-2007, 09:42 PM
The WSXGA Glare is in shortage at this time. Due to performance issues we will not supply the 1x2GB option any longer as you will lose up to 5% performance without running Dual Channel. (2 Ram Modules)

The prices just changed. Sorry :)

Now that it is almost August 2nd Justin, is there any exact shipping date for the WSXGA+ matte screens for the 5790? I am really hoping to recieve mine soon because I have been dying here since I ordered in June and the original ETA was early July though I know that it is not your fault. I just would have thought that things like this would have been thought through a little more by the Clevo. I also would like to know if you still have any delay on 2GB sticks since I ordered 4GB total and would not like to see another delay. Thanks.

Justin@XoticPC
08-02-2007, 05:48 PM
Sager is starting shipping of the WSXGA Matte next week :) There is no delay on the 2GB modules at this time :)

Sorry for the wait :( We greatly appreciate your patience.

xpcdude
08-02-2007, 09:24 PM
So will you guys have 2 GB modules available again soon ? I would like the 2 gb module and if possible, the WXSGA+ . Is there a date when we will see those again ? I don`t want the matte, and the WUXGA is waaaaay to expensive compared to the matte screen.

hitman453
08-04-2007, 09:20 AM
Would the WSXGA+ laptops come with the fingerprint reader now that it is in stock?

Justin@XoticPC
08-04-2007, 11:30 AM
Yes the5790 will now be with the FP reader :) The 2GB modules are in stock and have been in for some time now :) The WSXGA Glare screen is not going to be offered any more :(

xpcdude
08-05-2007, 11:09 PM
I was referring to the 1x2GB memory module, since right now I`m fine with just 2 gigs of memory, but I might upgrade later only if needed, and having 2x1 GB would make things complicated...
So what you are saying is that there will only be 2 types of screen, with 245$ separating them ? that is so weird...

Anyways, the 5790 is my choice, and I will order it sometime next week, after I see some more reviews about it :P
Thanks Justin for your time and answers.

One more thing, I saw that powernotebooks offers a remote control when purchasing Vista Ultimate or Premium... offer me the same, and we got a deal :D

Justin@XoticPC
08-06-2007, 10:22 AM
We are no longer offering the 1x2GB in the 5790 as it will hinder the systems performance. Yes there are only going to be these two screen available. We have the same remote in our configuration that is provided free with Vista HP or Ultimate purchase :)

Deal? :D

xpcdude
08-06-2007, 01:48 PM
Doesn't the remote control come only with the TV tuner? or does it come free just with purchasing Vista premium or ultimate? that include vista home premium also, right?
I will contact you later on , with or without the remote control :P

Justin@XoticPC
08-06-2007, 05:58 PM
The MCE remote promotion is a part of the purchase with Vista Home Premium or Ultimate. This will work with your TV Tuner.

Let me know what i can do to help :D

I'm curios, did anybody receive the 5790 yet? I`d love to see a review of it...

Hello. I am probably going to order an 5790 in the next couple weeks, and I have a couple of questions.
1) The built in TV Tuner - is it HD?
2) Does anyone have any experience putting Ubuntu (a version of linux) on this computer?
3) How much more powerful is the better graphics card? Is there anywhere I can view reviews with gaming stats, such as frames per second, for this computer?
Thank you, and congratulations on being the best deal I could find.

[EDIT] 4) Can anyone tell me how much the difference between 5400rpm and 7200rpm hard drives affects gaming?

xpcdude
08-17-2007, 10:25 PM
1, 2, I don't know.
3) The 7950 is at least 25% faster than the 8700GT and way better at anything, except for the lack of Dx10 support.
4) Hard drive speed affect just load time, so if you can wait 33% more loading time for the 5400 rpm drives, you can also gain some more battery life this way.

Edit : Justin, please answer my emails :P

Well, since I only want it if it is Hi-Def, I guess I will just buy one on newegg, since that would be cheaper anyway. Also, does anyone know how much 32bit XP versus 64bit vista would affect gaming performance. Vista eats more ram, but would the 64 bit make up for this?

Renoir
08-19-2007, 06:41 AM
about win 64 vs 32 performance is about 5% better on win xp right now, but that changes with driver updates. New game should benefit from 4 gigs and 64 bit and hopefully better drivers. Right now win xp 32 bit is king in games, but that will change just like win 98 had better performance in games when win xp was released.

edit : there has also been a new hotfix for windows vista that fixes excessive memory usage by software, so this should make windows vista a more tight ship ;).

Ok, thank you for that information. I guess I will go with XP then, since I will mostly be playing older games like Half Life 2, and Battlefield 2. Does anyone have a date for when the white trim will be availible?

Justin@XoticPC
08-20-2007, 08:16 AM
Sorry there is no firm ETA on the white trim at this time :(

After hearing that I ordered a sager 5790 waaaay cheaper than anywhere else, a friend of mine decided that he wants it also...
The question is : how are you guys on 7950 gtx card for this notebook? can he order it and get it in MAXIMUM 2 weeks or should he wait?

PS: I'm glad i ordered mine, can't wait to get it :D

Justin@XoticPC
08-21-2007, 08:28 PM
The 7950GTX is not expected in until he first part of September. The 8700 can ship right away :)

xpcdude
08-21-2007, 11:20 PM
I ordered mine like a week ago with 7950...does this mean I`m not going to get it until september??? That is not good, because I need it until the 1st of september... :(

Justin@XoticPC
08-22-2007, 10:24 PM
I am sorry that is correct, not until September....

xpcdude
08-24-2007, 12:58 AM
So if you guys are expecting the 7950GTX in the first part of september, and then you have to test the system, when will you start shipping?

Justin@XoticPC
08-26-2007, 09:12 AM
They will ship in 3-6 business days from the day they arrive :)

xpcdude
08-27-2007, 12:53 AM
Apparently, you guys received some 7950 and I guess I will receive my laptop before the 7th of september after all...
One question is posed, as with all power hungry notebooks...how could I keep the temperature low, meaning coolers (if so, which brand do you reccommend) , notebook stands etc...
The laptop I currently own has an X1600 Gpu and under high stress , I hear the fan spinning very noisily and I want to avoid that as much as possible...
In the meantime ... I`m awaiting impatiently for my little monster :D

I have a 5790 on order and I can't wait to get it! I did order it with the 7950GTX thus my order has been delayed. I was wondering about changing from the orange trim to the white trim. I wanted white originally but decided against it due to the fact that I wouldn't be able to get it until September. Now since I won't get it until September anyway...Would it be possible to change the trim to white at this point?

S.

Justin@XoticPC
08-29-2007, 07:21 AM
We recommend using the system on a hard surface to keep air flowing into the bottom of the machine :) There is a good cooler by Zalman that works great and has great reviews :)

You can change to the white trim when it becomes available :) We still have no confirmed ETA on the white trim :(

ScorpionX
08-29-2007, 11:23 AM
I also recently purchased a sager 5790. I was wondering if there is an ETA on the 7950gtx cards? I have a LAN party coming up mid september, and want to know if I should register or not.

Thanks!

Justin@XoticPC
08-29-2007, 11:40 AM
We have been told by nVidia First to Mid September we will have the cards. Sorry no specific date :(

ScorpionX
08-29-2007, 11:41 AM
no worries, work throws these every other month. I'll skip this unless I get it before the registration deadline. Or just throw my own, which ever :D

I've ordered mine several weeks ago and aparrently I might have to wait way more...I should have gone for the 8700GT,and I would have , if I would have known how much I have to wait for it :(

Justin@XoticPC
08-31-2007, 07:55 AM
I apologize, we are also provided with vague information on the arrival of the parts. If you want to switch to the 8700 you still can if you prefer. We try to provide the same information we are provided and apologize the manufacturers do not always provide accurate ETA's.

I ordered and got my 5790 about a month ago and I love it, I do wish I got the TV tuner with it though... is there anything I can do to get that now? or do I have to go buy a USB one, seeing as it has the plug for it on the side of the computer, I'd rather use the one that it can come with instead of buying a different one.

*edit* also, I remember there being an offer to get a free usb data drive thing but I never received one, so was curious what happened to that as well, thanks :)

ScorpionX

Hello, I too am curious about the 5791, I would much rather have the turbo memory option, since mine hasn't been built yet, I would like this newer model. Should I just call in about this?

EDIT the other thing I noticed is that I ordered the 2.2 ghz dualcore, and now the 2.4 ghz is the same price! Can I change my order to this? Or am I stuck with what I ordered?

Yup, it's the 5791. So if I want the Turbo Memory I can add it myself. Sweet.

Now, about the battery...
I had a laptop before this one, and I never removed the battery, and it still last over an hour and a half, pretty much the same as it did when it was new (it`s an hp nx9420 with 17' screen)
Should I remove it and store it somewhere special? since i am mainly using it as a desktop replacement..and rarely as a mobile platform..
