Ive been on the fence for a long time now about buying another laptop, as the Sager I bought a few years ago, a 9680 (iirc), died a horrible death due to heat issues. So needless to say its made me very gun shy about buying another one, even more so that reports are showing Nvidia's mobile chips have an unacceptable failure rate.

Has anyone seen any reports that Sager laptops are having the same issue that HP, Dell and other manufacturers are experiencing? I really do want to buy another laptop, a 5796, but I dont want to jump through hoops in a year RMAing because the videocard died.

There have been little to no reports of ACTUAL failures all around.
The G92 core seems to have been unscathed.
Even so, it will covered under warranty, but we have NO reports of such 8800 series card failures.

Don't worry about it unless you get a formal statement from nVidia ..

Its mostly BS. The original site that posted it has beef with NVIDIA. just look around on the forums do you see any body saying there 8800m gtx are dead or have a lot of problems with them.....nope cant say I have and I have been do a lot of look because of my new NP9262 which is on the way now....So don't worry about...

Yeah, I know the Inq is pretty much full of, well you know. And Charlie D is an avid Nvidia hater. But there is also a grain of truth in every story they print, most of the time. Im seeing it in more and more places, alot of them respectable, so it makes me wonder.

Yeah, I havent seen anything about 8800's failing, mostly 84s, 86s that HP, Dell, Apple, etc were using. The big issue is Nvidia isnt really fessing up to the whole thing, and that makes me wonder if other cards are going to have similar issues. It would be interesting to know whether or not the chips that are failing are mounted directly to the mobo, or are on a card, ala an 8800MGTX.

Yeah, I wood like to know that as well if they were mounted directly to the mobo or the cards them self. Well I think time will tell. But I hope am in the clear myself..LOL
