So I just got my lappy (NP2096) with Vista 64 (1st time with Vista) and I am running into some trouble downloading applications. I have tried to download ZoneAlarm firewall (windows firewall is turned off), Ventrilo and Firefox. On each of these, I have tried to save the download to desktop and run directly, and everytime the download is done, I get a small noise (like it is complete), but the install never comes up, and the DL is not on the desktop. Anybody know why?

When you press save and browse to the desktop, does it start the DL. And after it downloads do you see the box that says open file or close on it? If your just pressing run on the download immediately, Vista security is most likely taking a while to pop up. It can take up to 5 minutes for the allow program window to open, but this feature can be disabled if you would like. I would make sure your saving the file to the desktop an then try running it once it has downloaded.

I get the file download security warning where I choose save file and click on desktop. Then I get the green bar that travels across (the open and open folder options are grayed out at this point). When the green fills in completely, the box disappears and a windows type sound chimes....
I have yet to see a security window pop up.

Make sure when you click on download to click on save, not open. If you click on open, it will download and attempt to open, but it will not save it. Many times the default is open instead of save.

Just a thought, though i really dont know Vista.

I get an option to run or save. The open option after the download never comes available, and I can't find the DL on my computer. It is almost as if the file isn't downloading, even though the bar travels across the screen.
It is getting a little frustrating. I don't know if it is a security thing, or possibly a Vista 64 thing. I read a few different forums that state a few applications (Firefox, ZoneAlarm) aren't compatible with an 64bit os.

If it was a 64-bit problem, there would just be an error during the install. I am sort of puzzeled as to what is going on, but I will try to find some solutions asap or atleast be able to identify the problem.

You might want to try and set where the download is going to in windows internet explorer. This was a problem for me using windows explorer as by default the downloads were sent to a temporary folder somewhere other than your user folder. I only use fire fox now and it's down loader is easy to change to a folder in your main user folder. So when the file downloads just look to see what folder it is being put in. Or! Just copy down the file name you are downloading then use the search function in the main windows program button. (The round window button on the bottom left of the main screen.) Once you find the downloaded file it will be a snap to open. To make things easier in the install procedure just right click on the file to be installed and select run as administrator. This may help you get past some of the annoying security features incorporated in Vista.

Cool. I will try that. Thanks.
