someone elses restore sector wont help you, its keyed to the serial numbers of their board cpu ect.
what you need is a working hard drive and windows install cd

You don't really even need the restore partition, nor a windows disc to reinstall your G73, a USB thumb drive is probably the easiest. Sure you'll have to do some work downloading and installing all the apps and programs that came stock on the machine, but it is possible to do it without a restore partition.

Asus notebooks that are shipped from the factory with a 2.1 bios and Windows 7 Home Premium preinstalled are bios activated.
This means the original restore partition is the same on all like models
This also means that all ALL have been activated with the same mass serial key and certificate issued to Asus by Microsoft.
Starter,Basic,Professional and Ultimate have different mass keys and certificates as does Enterprise.
There are Windows 7 Tokens Manager programs that can copy all your activation information and reincert it into a clean install.
Older Asus with Vista had 2.0 bios and cannot be bios activated for Windows 7 unless a cracked 2.1 bios is used and an Asus $OEM$ folder is added to the Window installation disk.
Other types of activations are with system rebuilder keys that are on the stickers afixed to PCs or those keys included with boxed retail Windows.
The difference between System Builder and Retail is Retail gets 1 free support call to Microsoft while System Builder support must go through OEM.

Great info all, so it seems that If someone had a spare HD for my model it would work. Reason for the restore partition would be so that I have all the drivers and programs readily available instead of downloading and installing them. Hopefully someone out there has a spare drive
