Now, I know that in saying this (and believe me I don't think the same way now), I'm going to have a bunch of rabid dogs let loose on me, but I was previously pondering whether to get an m15x or the NP8660. Obviously I went with the latter... That being said, the only thing I liked better about the alienware was its design. So my question is, is there any chance I could order a custom keyboard from somewhere with the same effect as the alienware FX lit keyboard? I may be good with computers, but when it comes to laptop hardware, I haven't the slightest idea, and so I have no idea if the two laptops use the same connection, have the same dementions, etc.

Gee, I'm not so sure you can get something like that. I know that even if you were to find that, I think it would void your warranty if you went and took apart the machine to fit the keyboard.
Are you using the laptop at home mostly? If so, you could always get a usb desktop type keyboard with lighted keys and plug that in.
That's about all I can come up with, sorry I couldn't be more helpful on this one.

Well I haven't recieved the laptop yet, expected delivery is Thursday. Even so, with my laptop now, I usually bring it to work every day, since my iPod only has about a 2 hour charge before it dies (hence me ordering the X-Fi notebook card, woo!) Anyway, it's really not that big of a deal that I'd void my warrenty over it, a lit keyboard would just be convenient (and a desktop keyboard really wouldnt't be, at least not taking it to work, but I may consider one for home use...)

Thanks anyway, anewbus :)

Your welcome, just thought I would take a shot at it. Notice no rabid dogs. Actually, I'm partial to cats. "Ok, release the rabid cats please"!! (Just kidding).
You'll love your new lappy when you finally have it in your hands anyway.:) (Far better than alienware where it counts on several points).

I almost bought an alienware too, thank goodness i found xoticpc first lol

maybe you could try getting a book light if you want to be able to see your keyboard better and just attach it to the top of your lappy? I read there were problems with having the light up keyboard(gets hot, etc) so personally i dont think its worth having the extra aesthetics :P

Just an idea.

There are sites online that specialize in custom lighted keyboards for laptops. There was a similar post on this subject before, which included a link to one of these sites.... just don't know where that thread is now :(.

Oh boy, now I know I have something to find... I may have to search through the entire internet, brb guise!

Also, thx for the idea Dislexi, that's not a bad idea, and I'm sure that'd be cheaper too... by a LOT...
