I am thinking of getting a high end Sager 9262. I want a SSD but I don't see it on the build option list. Does anyone have any info when this will be available? You can get them with Dell and Alienware. Thanks

Actually, you "may"have a hard time getting them from Dell and Alienware or any place as well. From what I have heard through the technology grapevine is that SSDs are not ready for mass market yet. I hear its some sort of design flaw that was caught. I'm sure its being worked on, but not with extreme speed. I think we will start seeing them in 2009 perhaps. That's just what I have heard, the info could be wrong.

Yeah I heard they still have a very limited life. They do support wear leveling (at least from what I've heard, if they don't then why even market them...), and they're REALLY fast, but thats about all I know.

Wait until the Intel SSDs are out before you buy one. They seem to have a handle on alot of the issues that SSDs are having right now including the write issue with wearing the drive out.
Personally I dont think SSDs are worth the money right now. They are fast, but I would much rather spend my money on a faster processor and memory than to get my desktop apps to load up 1 second faster, or have my game load 10 second faster.

well I would pay the premium for the drives. They seem to be alot faster. You pay to have the best

Like I said, wait for the Intel drives. The older SSDs are a little faster in some applications, but the Intel ones are far more consistent. Intel will also be pushing for SATA 3 as it has alot more throughput than SATA 2 which will make their drives faster because there is more bandwidth available. You will really begin to see the advantages at that point.
As far as paying for the best goes, yeah I dont have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is minimal gains for alot of coin. You will will see faster loading times with an SSD, but simply bumping to more memory and increasing the swap file size will solve alot of issues. Remember, once an app is loaded, the HD speed becomes a moot point, as its loading from RAM at that point. You wont see a FPS increase just because you have an SSD.
