Justin responded in an Email of mine before ordering my laptop that replacing the TIM in a laptop would void the warranty. However, when I received my new laptop it came with a tube of extra TIM. Why are we given TIM if we cannot replace it?

Hi dwoodward - I don't know what type of computer you have or who at the manufacturers' offices makes decisions on what to put in the box - but I would venture to guess that your extra tube is there "just in case". In my experience, most people who would be comfortable replacing their own TIM are not the ones who will care too much about voiding the warranty anyway - they can generally take care of themselves. :-)

Well, my laptop is the Sager NP5796 and they included a small 1ml tube of AS5. I am wondering because if it has no effect on the warranty, I will swap out all the paste on the system for my own OCZ Freeze.
It is superior to AS5 so I can't see it being too much of a problem.
