I'd like you guys to sell Alienware laptops and custom configure them, similar to what some other sites do. I would prefer to buy from you than from anywhere else (best service, best prices, best options for configuration) and I would like the option of buying an Alienware style laptop in the future.

why would Xotic sell overpriced pieces of crap?

interesting idea, that would be pretty cool. Actually as the story goes most of the Alienware founders left to create OriginPC, yet ANOTHER company that customizes machines and overprices them. Guess what brand they use now? wait for it.....
wait for it....
Sager!

Customer demand. That is the only thing that is both necessary and sufficient for a business -- a customer.
Someone's buying them, might as well be xoticpc doing the selling. And xotic wouldn't overprice them as much as dell, I'd hope.... no $600 memory upgrades, for example.

You fail to understand, XoticPC would have to buy from dell and dell is going to overprice them. That would in turn force them to have to overprice them compared to the machines they already sell.
Its a lose lose proposition, there aren't enough customers to justify selling that brand for far more than they sell Sager, ASUS, and MSI brands with similar or better specs. Another problem is that the end user would still have to deal with dell for RMA/Tech Support and that is just a bad idea too.
I don't know why you think there is a lot of customer demand for Alienware, but there really isn't and if the ones that buy alienware knew about places like XoticPC they very likely wouldn't be alienware customers.

Dell will overprice the base configurations and the upgrades, but xoticpc wouldn't buy the upgrades from Dell, they would do the upgrades themselves.
Yes, they would be priced higher than the other machines sold by xoticpc. But they would also offer some features not available on the machines that they sell.
And the whole point of them being sold by xoticpc is so that you don't have to deal with Dell tech support and could instead deal with xoticpc tech support. That's a HUGE value-add for them and what would make them extremely competitive in this niche.

considering sager is >>> alienware in every way possible i dont see why xotic would have to resell alienware.
alienware are just overpriced versions of the clevos sager uses, they overcharge on every little upgrade too.
and theyre butt ugly, i love my brushed black metal with suggestive blue light up dragon s SAGER on the lid.

please name a feature, other than the Alienware shell, that these machines offer that Sager, Asus, Or MSI do not offer.

Ok mav np. What about a customizable backlit keyboard on a machine that is smaller than 17 inches? What about the supposed 6 hours battery life or the power management on the M14x? It's basically a Sager NP5165 with nearly as much battery life as an Apple but with the keyboard of an MSI 17". None of the machines here include all of this in the same machine. Now what I'd like to see, Alienware or not, is a 15.6" machine with GTX or good ATI graphics that gets over 2.5 hours battery life and has a customizable keyboard like the AW or the MSI 17" models. So basically take the M17x and make it a 15.6" machine that is not an Alienware (and therefore more portable) and you get a computer that would fly off the shelves.

11" machine, period.
sandy bridge cpu with dual 6990m gpu's.
sandy bridge cpu with dual 580m gpu's.
color changing keyboard that changes depending on what is going on in the game.
Wireless HD.
HDMI in.
Maybe the other companies offer those features, I'm not completely up on all the possible laptops. But those are the ones that come to mind.

Completely possible to do on the G53 series, but they just haven't done it.
What about the supposed 6 hours battery life or the power management on the M14x?
You mean the machines that overheat when fully loaded? Yea.
It's basically a Sager NP5165 with nearly as much battery life as an Apple but with the keyboard of an MSI 17".
Are you high?
GT780 steel series (http://computershopper.com/var/ezwebin_site/storage/images/media/images/msi-gt780r-keyboard/827852-1-eng-US/msi-gt780r-keyboard.jpg)
M14X keyboard (http://notebooku.us/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/alienware-m14x-light-keyboard.jpg)
The M14X has a single color backlight(much like the G53 series) with no num pad, so please don't ever compare it to the steel series of the MSI, its not even in the same hemisphere.
is a 15.6" machine with GTX or good ATI graphics that gets over 2.5 hours battery life
The 8130 and the G53 both get 3 hours.
and has a customizable keyboard like the AW or the MSI 17" models.
again, very much possible if Xotic thought they would sell enough of the custom keyboard colors in the G53.
So basically take the M17x and make it a 15.6" machine that is not an Alienware (and therefore more portable) and you get a computer that would fly off the shelves.
I completely disagree with your assessment that these supposed computers would fly off the shelves.

Because 11" machines are all the rage in the gaming/power laptop segment
http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-ux21edh71-preorder-p-3384.html In case you missed it
sandy bridge cpu with dual 6990m gpu's.
sandy bridge cpu with dual 580m gpu's.
Coming in November and the 8180 is already here and probably will work with both of those.
color changing keyboard that changes depending on what is going on in the game.
Alienware doesn't do this on every game as far as I know, so ummm cool I guess?
Wireless HD.
So far the only company to offer this is intel, so unless you want to be stuck with intel GPU's this is something to take up with Nvidia/AMD and not ASUS/MSI/Sager.
HDMI in.
Clevo did do this on the 7282 and I would bet on the PH270 when it comes out.
Maybe the other companies offer those features, I'm not completely up on all the possible laptops. But those are the ones that come to mind.
Everything you mentioned, with the exception of the stupid color changing keyboard is offered on this site.

I know you are a moderator, I kinda thought you would get a kick out of it. For the love of god I do have a sense of humor.
I need to remember to include in my posts when I am being sarcastic. I tend to be a bit more scatter brained these days than usual thanks to 8 week old twins though, so I probably will keep forgetting sarcasm is not something I convey well to everyone.

at any rate, alienware only offers over priced, over priced rebranded clevo types, and over priced mini 11 inch types. remember, dell took them over, and dell is failtastic for the most part for anything when it comes to gameing level performance, from software tuneing to hardware cooling, their standards are set far too low.
the only thing dell was ever known for doing write was having decent customer service, and ive heard even that has tapered off lately.
i owned a dell once, never again, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

I figure xoticpc could fix the stuff that's wrong with Alienware.
I see xoticpc as adding value to the Alienware brand by:
1. More sensibly priced upgrades than what is offered by Dell
2. Much better customer service, before and after the sale
3. Better customization options -- something other than a Samsung 470 SSD, for example, and different sizes than 256GB.
4. Adequate testing of the machine prior to shipment. Alienware used to do this pre-Dell, but I doubt they do it currently.
5. Custom skins.
Let's say you have your heart set on an Alienware for whatever reason. Maybe you really value flashing lights and are willing to spend $500 more than something is worth. Wouldn't you much rather give your money to xoticpc than to Dell?

Really, guys? Not relevant to discussion. Keep it civil. Especially you, Scar, we made you moderator not so you could laugh at another member of the forums.
To actually add to the conversation, we find that our partnership with Sager is quite valuable and prefer carrying Sager over Alienware because then we'd have to deal with Dell...Ugh.

Were the hell have I been? SCAR a moderator?!?!? :twitchy:
As to the topic....I can see and understand were your coming from. AW's are more flashy and (to be honest) I like their keyboards better for typing. But honestly, YOU really need to be talking to the mfg's of said laptops. Let them know what your looking for in a laptop. XoticPC can add lights, but can not change the type of keyboards or their shells. The G73/74 models have all the lights your looking for, but come at a premium. For me, I like showing up with an "ugly" kickass computer, than have all the flash and no hardware to back it up....

If it is a choice of either Sager or Alienware but not both, that's an easy choice -- Sager. Agreed. I was merely suggesting both. :)
Yes, Dell does seem to be a pain to deal with at times.
If it's any consolation, the ONLY time in my LIFE that I have EVER bought a brand-new laptop has been from www.xoticpc.com.
That said, I have bought refurbished laptops at steep discounts from both HP and Dell.
Have you guys considered offering refurbished laptops at a discount? That's my next suggestion. :)

I wonder if Xoticpc will offer the Razer Blade custom configured? I guess there's not really much to configure on that one though.

in my observations, the Alienware laptops and computers used to be good machines, but after the acquisition by dell, they seem to be the XPS line with a little alien on the case. Their quality seems to have dropped rapidly. I've read on many gaming forums where they have overheated while in the heat of battle. While i have little experience with gaming laptops as of yet, it seems with the "alienware" logo slapped on it, your buying more into the name rather than an actual quality machine. This used to be different.
