I can get this ASUS laptop at BestBuy (with my Credit Card): G74SX-BBK8 for $1249.00..
I thought I read somewhere XOTICPC will beat other legit prices, is this true?

This is a hard deal to beat, plus its a local pickup, but at the price, if I can get it cheaper obviuosly i would do a delivery. But I would also be paying with credit Card, sorry, dont have a spare grand sitting around.. *smile*

I really do want a 17" quad-core i7, and GTX560, and at least 8gbs. plus a exhaust system that isnt on the bottom of the laptop. trying to stay at a grand or less. dont really want used either as this is to much of a investment to get stuck with a problem..

XOTIC will only price match for the same model/configuration. Since the -bbk's are a Best Buy exclusive, I seriously doubt you'll get a price match.

I looked at the -bbk you refer to. It doesn't mention what the screen resolution is, but there's a trend among the lower-priced Asus -bbk's to have a lower resolution (usually 1600x900, but maybe as low as 1360x768) to keep the price down. Some past -BBK's have also had less video RAM than the -A or -X versions. Again the VRAM is not mentioned on best buy's website.

I can't get an further data about this version - just a friendly buyer-beware.

You'll be hard-pressed to find what you listed there for under a grand. That's the way the market is.

I knew i wouldn't find anything cheaper, and as for the screen, i would actually rather have a 1440-900 or 1600x?1024?, verse the 1900x1080.


i think a 1080 screen would be very difficult to work with, and actually slow down the system to manage all them pixels.

But what bestbuy has is about 300dollars cheaper then here, and its local (easy for a warrenty issue), but obviulsy if found cheaper or more to offer for same price , it was worth asking..

Just realize that if you go with the BBK series you will get an inferior machine.

So it has the 2GB version of the 560M which is worse by 10-15% than the 560M 1.5/3GB models. It only has a 1600x900 screen, two non-hybrid hard drives, and no bag or mouse with it. Plus you get just a 1 year warranty on it through Asus, unless you pay 120 or 215 dollars for best buy warranties. It only has 8GB of RAM stock.

even the review says some games choke on high settings, but it doesn't mention which ones.

If you ever try to get it fixed by Best Buy - they will do everything in their power to NOT have to fix it. I've read stories of people having their computer in Best Buy's hands for two months - conveniently taking them past the end of their warranty - then being told since the warranty is now expired, they need to pay $XXX for the service.

Even if it weren't for the significantly lower specs, I wouldn't buy a computer from Best Buy and expect to receive ANY service from them.

As for a 1080 screen being too much? I have a G73SW with 1080 screen and GTX 460 - it runs everything I want it to at 1080 without any problems. I just can't expect it to do MAX settings or high levels of AA.

Where did you find out that the 2GB version of the 560M is 10-15% worse than the 560M with 1.5GB ? I am currently having to decided between those two but haven't really saw anything negative, or even specific benchmarks for either. They all just say 560m.

Note: This only applies to the G53SX version. The G74SX and the VX**** versions all have either 1.5GB or 3GB of VRAM and (I believe) the same other specs as the MSI quoted.

Or at least the versions that XOTIC sells... I can't vouch for lower end versions like the -bbks.

Shortly after posting that I managed to track down some info that broke down the 1.5 vs 2.0 vs 3.0 gb versions. I combo of getting info from here and some other places that I can't readily find again. Where is there a breakdown of these different incarnations that says 128-bit and 192-bit? I didn't find it on the nvidia site but I saw it for sure somewhere and definatley have the 128 vs 192 embded in my mind but just want the official docs just for curiosities sake.

Yea but where does this info come from. Even on the best buy site it doesn't say the GPU is 128-bit and the nvidia site doesn't lay out the different versions.

best buy tells you how much memory video memory is on the laptop, just not online. You would have to go to best buy to look at the sticker. (or call and see if one of the wanna-be tech nerds can look at a sticker and tell you)
