Price: $1216.38

This rig has decent gaming capabilities and a pretty fair pricetag. Knock off about $100 if you don't want Vista pre-installed.

Anything you want/need changed?

Thank you for your reply, that looks like a great system at a great price(I can get a free vista license from my school).I have two additional questions if you don't mind answering

Is 2 gigs of "Robson turbo memory" worth 45 bucks?

Is the 9600m a decent option for newer games(farcry, crysis, etc)?

to your first question: the price of turbo memory is fair, if you look at other who offer turbo memory it is generally $50 +/- $10... If you mean is the $45 worth the performance boost, than that is a harder question. It will load regularly used programs faster (because they are basically stored on a ssd) but while in the program there is very little use of the turbo memory. so if you want windows to boot 4 seconds faster, or you want your web browser to pop up the instant you hit the key for it, than it might be worth the $45. then agian if the next proccessor upgrade is only $45 (or memory upgrade) then get that! its performance increases would be magnitudes greater than the turbo memory.

on to the second question :) the 9600 is definatly not the 9800 gtx and playing crysis on high at 1600 res is out of the question, but you would be able to play the game at a lower settings and still have a decent fps. basically the card will have its limitations, but concidering the price difference between a 9600 lappy and a 9800gtx lappy (2-3x the cost) I think you will be just fine :)

well thats my two cents, take it or leave it :)

Happy Lappy Hunting

1. Before I ask another question I would like to thank PSRT and robamb2002, for their assistance,I consider myself pretty tech savvy but this is my first time shopping for a gaming system, much less a gaming laptop that offers this level of customization.

2. I noticed that some of the more expensive()laptops have user upgradable graphics cards, did I miss something or are there any $1200 laptops that have user upgradeable graphics cards.

If you see the card listed as a PCI Express card (eg. the Compal JHL90 machines) It is considered "user ungradable" basically its not soldered to the board. I believe the nvidia 9600s up are user ungradable, but I can not guarantee that :)

Upgradability in laptops, at least in my past experience, has been rubish. But, Xotic does use MXM standard nvidia chips, which may or may not allow upgrades to future cards (depends on motherboard support, power draw, and heat output, which is usually why cards aren't upgradable... I think the 8xxx > 9xxx series was an exception though)

The 8xxx to 9xxx series was kosher, and required little more than a bios update. unfortunatly the processor upgrades from T series to P series which occured around the same time did require a mobo swapout, so if you were upgrading your system at that time you still needed a swap-out :-\

Yeah, eh, for most of the people here, the video card is what counts lol. I hope I'll be able to upgrade mine when newer things come out... whatever and whenever that may be lol
