Hi all,

I just received the brand-new Force 1761 for my son, and installed Windows 64-bit on it, then the device drivers from the CD that came with it. There's only one problem -- the wireless device is not getting detected!

It got stuck into "other devices" under Device Manager, driverless. I looked in the device properties, and determined, by its PCI ID, that it's an Atheros device. So I went to MSI site, found the Atheros 64-bit drivers for GT780 laptop, downloaded them -- and no effect!

I could download the Atheros drivers directly from Atheros, but I need to know what model device my laptop has. MSI docs say to look at the silver label on the bottom. Well, my laptop being XoticPC, and there is no silver label!

I have the laptop running off of wired network at the moment, but of course that's not a solution.

Can anyone either tell me either how to install the driver the automatic way, or which model Atheros device the MSi 1761 have, so i can download drivers directly from Atheros?

Thanks in advance guys!

The price is low because of the stock parts, warranty and build quality compared to an MSI branded notebook.

Too bad you didn't upgrade the wireless card when you ordered the notebook. In the unit is probably the stock single stream 1x1 Atheros AR9285.

IMO it's a terrible wireless card.

Get the newest AR9285 driver here:

Try toggling the wireless on first, there should be a Fn + F1 key combo (probably not F1, but you'll see it on your keyboard). Also, the drivers should be on the drivers disc that was included with your laptop.

The Atheros 9285 driver worked fine, thanks. I am not sure how bad the card it, but it seems to transfer the data, and I doubt its local network speed will be below my cable internet.

The driver disk did not include the Atheros card driver, unfortunately, and Windows 7 wouldn't recognize it on its own.
