Hello everyone, I just got this G73jh-a1 laptop off an auction site and it is in need of a few things, Now I'm not trying to buy anything in this forum (just let me know if you might have something I need ok)... but more so to find out what I can use in place of the missing parts... I have a limited budget and really I think this might just be a great laptop with a few minor things added and it also is custom more to my wants / needs...

So here goes, I need a CPU, HDD, Battery and advice... I know it came stock with the i7-720 and the 2 500 hdd and battery so I'm asking for both cheap and maybe alittle better for it... Oh I see alot of i7's out there, anyone know if a i7-740? will work?? Thanks

740 will work fine.

i7 820QM (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-i7-820QM-Processor-8M-Cache-1-73-GHz-SLBLX-/330620430937?pt=CPUs&hash=item4cfa836a59) will also work.

Then for the Hard drive: this should work (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148374)

Battery: Third party Battery (http://www.cheap-laptop-batteries.com/laptop-battery/asus-g73jh.htm)

CPU_you can put duel core i5 680M,duel core i7 640M or quad core i7 720QM,740QM,820QM,840QM,920XM and 940XM.

HDD_any SATA II hard drive should work fine although prices are high now because of the flooding in Thailand.A normal 500gb should be fine.

Peel the top layer off the stickers as best you can. Then before you go to sleep smear a bit of cooking oil or peanut butter over the sticky stuff. In the morning just wipe it off.

If the surface slopes, make it level so the oil stays on the spot.

A drop of windex on a rag can cleanup any oil spot left behind.

This method doesn't cause any damage to the plastic case.

hello all again, hey worry my server isp went down for a while and I couldn't get much done till today...

First thanks all for the advice and the great information... I even learned how to find stuff I didn't think about lol ...

Well here is the update.. OMG the freaking motherboard died ... that or the cpu one cause it won't even power on now... I just spent a ton of money into this thing and now I have to say I could have gotten one alot cheaper than having to mess with all this...

I was installing Windows 7 UT64bit and the computer powered down and never restarted.. nothing not even the blue power light... This is the 2nd Asus that has done this to me... the first was the Asus G1S ROG laptop and I had to fight tooth and nail to get Asus to replace the motherboard ... my brother paid almost 2K for it and after a year the MB dies out of warranty... What is it with laptops and the motherboards... you spend 2K for a laptop and In my opion it should last at least 5 years...

Now the Asus G73JH is less than 2 years old and its freaking died... I'm about had it with Asus guys...

Well NOW I'm looking for a replacement motherboard, I am RMA ing it to Asus but thats just to see if I can afford to buy another motherboard... if not then I'm just going to have to ask for some help from you guys...

Well sorry for the bad news, I was hoping to give you all some good news by saying that I saved a 1,600.00 dollar laptop from the dump... maybe not... TrMiller

Hey all, back again sorry been very very busy this last few months...

Anywho, I sent off my Asus G73JH after buying a crap load of parts but at a good deal and pasted this thing back together... I ended up buying a Motherboard from the internet auction and had it installed only to find that a chip had burn up as we were putting it back together... so I RMAed it out to Asus which surprised me that they only charged me $118.00 dollars for the motherboard and $65.00 for laybor... I am using it right now sweet...

I did have a glitch the other day maybe someone can explain... I have a max resolution of 1600x900 I got another screen for free btw to replace the original so that is why the difference in them... Anyway, It look like it flickered and then every other vertical line had turned off ?? I shut it down for a bit and then about 6 hours later it all was back to normal...

If anyone has seen this happen before let me know ok and thanks ahead of time...
