hi everyone,

i am very interested in buying the OCZ Extreme 840 laptop but i have a few questions. first, i see two different laptop chassis. one has an uneven keyboard layout and a weird design around the touch pad. the other has a straight keyboard and a very clean look. which one would i get? i see no option for this. is the chassis hard and sturdy? are the hinges tight? (i like it tight because it feels reliable)
edit: is this what it looks like? http://www.flextronics.com/arima/pim/Pf174-1.jpg

also, will these specs secure me for the next 3 years or so? i never spent this much money before and i don't think i want to do it again. this will cost me $2553 minus shipping. will the power supply handle the dual 3870 GPUs with everything else?
how does crossfire ATI mobility HD3870 compare to other leading laptop GPUs?

OR should i get the NP9262 (Sager) which would cost me around $3000 for better specs.

I dont even know where to start answering you man, thats a lot of questions.

Laptops with desktop components draw much more Watts and will cause issues with supplying enough power.

As for the 840 extream, well its tdp is 55watts for the cpu, so if you go quad 2.53 qx9300 (which is only 45watts) then we have lots of watts left for the video and hard disk. mind you the 840 extream is 200watt + power supply.

hey sam,

you ask very good questions and I am exactly in the same boat as yourself. I am looking at this laptop as well and I am also expecting this to last 2-3 years. Your configuration is almost exactly what I would get except with the addition of another 320gb hard drive. If you are a gamer, definitely go with the dual video cards. There is no way that one will last you 2-3 years but with two you might have a chance.

I was also looking at the Sager NP9262. It has better specs in some areas but lack of eSATA, DDR3 ram, and HDMI means it's not terribly up to date right now.

I will most likely go with the 840. The ATI cards seem to hold up very well but it sounds like XoticPC is looking at testing it out with NVIDIA cards. I am looking forward to reviews by some customers.
