1) What is your budget?

Around $3k

2) What size notebook would you prefer? Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen

I could go with either one but i think smaller means less power so i don't know
3) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in.

United States

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

I'm mainly looking into Sager cause they have the most fav gaming notebooks

5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?

gaming mainly but for school work as well

6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?

I can't decide on this i would like the portability but that comes with a price meaning less power than the desktop replacement ones.

7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?

Crysis, BF2/2142, COD4 and mostly FPS

8) How many hours of battery life do you need?

well for gaming i can't say but maybe for other stuff around 1-2 hours max

9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?

not at all, to be honest buying it online gets you more customization to the product

10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.

Vista

Screen Specifics

11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen?

Yes

12) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer? (more details below)
WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.

13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non glossy screen? (Read below on differences)

Matte would be good but it doesn't really matter ATM

Build Quality and Design

14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?

Maybe a little cause i don't want it looking ugly but maybe just somewht stylish would be good too

15) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?

At least 5 years

Notebook Components

16) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 500GB?

around 500 GB

17) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?

yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner

I was really looking into the Sager 9262 cause its a power beast but would it be the one i'm looking for...

+95$ for 17" WUXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1920x1200) ( + 95 )

Do note that the Sager 3 year Parts and Labor Warranty is +$289, so you could drop that down to the 2 yr warranty on both of those and save some cash, and on the NP5796 if you dropped it down to the 2 yr or kept it at the one year warranty you could get the P9500 processor.
The reason why I used the P#### series cpu's is because they use less power than the T series cpu's do, so your battery will last slightly longer than it would otherwise.

I hope this helps some.

not bad configs,I would go for the NP5796 as it has alot better GPU. As Anubus said you could drop the warrenties to 1 or 2 yrs and opt for the higher res screen (which I would do if I were you, the WUXGA is obsurdly crisp and just down right beautiful.) Though I would stick with the 2 yr warrenty. Ive been screwed recently by parts being 5 days out of the 1 yr warrenty (NOT FROM XOTICPC THOUGH, different retailer)

just my two cents :)

Happy Lappy Hunting!

Roamb, that was Mazeura that was talking about downgrading the warranty.:)

First, to answer your question about size: Bigger does not always mean more power offered. It could also mean more power required which is not always good. It depends on your applications.
There are many 15.4 inch laptops that are just as powerful as say, the 9262. The difference being less bulk and weight. If you needed tons of internal HD space and a 17 inch screen and a real beast in all kinds of ways then the 9262 would fit that bill. However, judging by what you listed the 9262 would be overkill and would give you budget problems.
I’m going to list a few 15.4 models that should give you a nice mix of power with less weight and bulk and easier on the budget so you have enough left over for plenty of additional toys you might want. Remember, these are just my opinions.

First up is the NP8660. I configured this with a 2.4 GHz proc (you can go higher if you want) just to save a bit. I also chose the 3 year parts and labor full coverage warranty. The GPU is upgradable, but you would be surprised how well the 512MB version will perform. I also went with the 1680x1050 screen over the higher res one because it requires less power, but is just as insanely crisp and clear as the higher res one.
If you really want something unique looking you could consider skinning your laptop. It would be $89 extra. I had this done on my Force 3298 and it looks great.

Personally, the one thing I would not skimp on here is the warranty for two main reasons:
1) The nature of the beast. We are talking computers here and weird things do happen, no matter who builds them or what parts are used.
2) I found that XoticPC offers the best warranties in the industry and they cover shipping both ways should service be required. (Next business day no less either! Try to find that one with other places)!

This machine is built on the same thing as the Sager 2096 (both are Compal JHL90s). It’s just that the Force offers slightly different options. So I am including it in the choices to have scope.
I also included a skinning job just to show you cost.
This machine also automatically comes with the full coverage warranty. The other huge difference from the 8660 is that the battery life is longer (2 – 3 hours instead of 1-2 hours). The GPU is not upgradeable as it is already the highest the machine can handle, but it is the same as the one that comes standard with the 8660 (the 512MB version).
While the highest HD that will fit is the 320GB, that is plenty of room. I chose the 5400rpm over the 7200rpm because the difference in overall performance is minor and not worth the price paid in battery life.
So with this machine you still have plenty of power, but less weight and bulk and longer battery life.

Here’s the NP2096: The difference from the Force 3310 is that it offers the option of a 500GB HD and the full coverage 3 year warranty is covered solely by Sager directly and is extra $.
I personally like the Force 3310 above better.

Just for giggles I’ll show a config for the 9262: I configured this without a third HD and used a 250GB HD as the second one. Also I did not include a skinning job, but did opt for the 3 year full coverage warranty. I also kept the card at the default 512MB just to keep it within your budget range. (If you choose the 1GB GPU it would throw you over your budget by $57.71).

If you really want a 17 inch unit and don’t mind the short battery capacity, you might consider the NP5796: About the same power as the 9262, but less weight and bulk. The only difference is that it does not offer the ability to have three internal HDs. However, it also comes with the 1GB version of the Nvidia 9800M GTX. I kept the CPU at 2.4GHz as that is plenty of power.
The other thing too is that you can pick what trim you want (Orange or Silver) at no extra cost. Orange is the default.

Yes, that was the same story for me when I got my Force 3298 about 2 months ago. (Why does it feel like I have had it for a year)?
Anyway, there is no protection against "obsolete" occuring that only takes 1 or 2 weeks. LOL:laugh: It's a computer. You probably already know that though.
All kidding aside though, any one of these babies that have an attached or offered 3 year full coverage warranty will last you with proper care. (I tend to pamper my lappy, but that's me although I'm not the only one around here who does that).
You should be able to get 4 or 5 years or maybe even more if you care for it well. (Try getting that out of an HP, Gateway, Toshiba, Dell.... one can't even get a good 3 year warranty for those).
That's partly what sold me to XoticPC. I figured if they have a 3-year full coverage warranty with their machines than they must last a long time with proper care. Otherwise they would not have such warranties and would be out of business real fast.
These are quality machines. On mine for example, it takes both hands to open the lid and I think that is the case with most if not all of the machines here from what I have heard. Believe it or not, that's a sign of quality for a lappy. You don't want a loose or flimsy feeling lid because that's where the screen lives which is the most important and fragile piece.
