I'm running vista ultimate (http://forum.notebookreview.com/autolink.php?id=187&script=showthread&forumid=1017) 64-bit and I'm having trouble running games in directx 10. Every time I launch a game in dx10 the screen is blank but you can hear the normal intro and menu sounds. If I put the -dx9 extension behind the shortcut it will boot and play fine, but I'd like to take full advantage of the hardware I have. This has happened on Crysis Warhead, Bioshock, and Far Cry 2, which are the only games I have installed that use dx10. It didn't always do this, but I don't remember when I started having trouble, recently I went back and redownloaded the original sager drivers, but I still get the same result. Anyone have an idea what the problem could be?

System Stats:
NP8660
Intel Core 2 Due 2.4GHZ
Intel Robson
9800GT
4GB ram

Which driver version are you using?

Also, don't forget to install the latest DirectX redist. from the Microsoft site, I always forget to do that on a new install and sometimes it screws newer stuff up.

I installed the newest DX10 redist and it's still doing the same thing. I've tried 3 different drivers and it does the exact same thing with all of them. Something strange, when I load up DXDIAG before it opens a window opens and says "C:\Windows\system32\wbem\wbemsvc.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error." But when I click ok it loads up fine and says there are no problems, when I click run 64-bit dxdiag another window pops up that says "C:\windows\system32\wbem\wbemprox.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error." I'm sure this has something to do with it, I'm thinking my Vista installation might be corrupt somehow, but you would think there would be a way to just uninstall all the files related to DX10 and reinstall them, I've yet to figure that out. The weird thing is, with the -dx9 extention the games run perfectly, and look beautiful, and my 3dmark06 score is still around 9000 which is exactly where it should be. I would really like to utilize the full potential of my hardware though, so this is really bugging me, it just doesn't make sense. Does anyone have an idea of what is going on here?

Just an update on my situation. It turns out the problem was a corrupt installation of Vista, I simply put in the recovery dvd and chose the upgrade option and it fixed my problems after reinstalling everything. I just hope the cause of the corruption wasn't the hard drive overheating. Anyways, sorry for wasting everyone's time, I probably should have tried this before posting
