I've been getting the "Unknown error code: 2131" on iTunes whilie trying to burn cds on my Sager NP5793. When I try to burn, it just pops my disc out and gives that message.

After some research it seems that the issue can be resolved via a firmware update for the drive. A lot of poeple have had the same problem with different notebooks and cd's, but with the same drive:

TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L632H

Does anyone know if Sager has released an update for this or if there is a safe (legal?) way to use and update from another company?

I have the same drive and am have had extremely slow speed out of it. I have found that this drive is made by Toshiba/Samsung and is widely used in Dell laptops, but the any firmware upgrades i have found to date have not been applicable to my 9262.

Justin can you shed some light on this besides asking us to call tech support? Id like some help here, it just took me 45 minutes to install Crysis, and another 40 minutes to rip a copy of my wedding DVD to ISO using Nero, with all settings to max??? HELP!!!

Does device manager see all as fine? Also since Justin does not MFG the part you ask about too ask him to hold your hand seems time consuming. If Sager f'd up come on, bother them. Be fair. Not that Justin and his staff will not help but to drain there resources is not fair. Post tomorrow after Justin can comment. If he can't fix I will put in more effort on this.

i appriciate the sentiment, and i know Justin and Xotic dont MFG. but at the same time if he knows something all im asking is to please share. I am quite capable of checking a registry setting or updating a driver if i knew where to look. If it needs to go back so be it im in LA and will knock on Sager's door, but id rather see if there is a quick fix first before i jump off a bridge here so to speak.

there has been a great deal of firmware updating of this drive out there mostly in the D**l camp and also in the samsung sites. Device manager says everything is fine, everything is set as it should be as far as i can tell but it seems to be stuck in 1X speed regardless of where it is set.

I have checked BIOS settings and have tried setting 32bit mode as well as forcing PIO mode 4 and 5 all with the same results. Default was automatic and PIO 2

Case and point it takes me 13 minutes to burn a 12 minute copy of a presentation when on the road at home on my desktop it takes me 4-5 minutes. BTW this 9262 blows my home system away in everything but CD / DVD read and wrights

thanks and happy new year

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers in Device Manager? Open Device Manager and find the drive, then right-click on it and select uninstall. Go up to Action afterwards and click "Scan for hardware changes". The drivers should reinstall. It got my BD drive working after it was giving me a "Please insert disc" error while discs were in the drive. It doesn't take long, and it just might help.

All,
Thanks for your assistance, but everything i tried didnt work, so i placed a call to sager and was directed to a MS KB but unfortunately the number i wrote down wast correct but after a little more digging and the correct treminology i stumbled on thie forum

http://forums.vso-software.fr/how-to-check-enable-dma-transfers-in-windows-xp-t2796.html
