That is the standard 280W charger due to the enormous power requirements of the 9261 : a destop processor,2 GPUs, 3 HDD,a 17 inch screen, 4 fans and 4.1 speakers.
There is no reason to want another charger, it fits the profile perfectly. Unless you want your laptop not to charge at all with a smaller charger :)

But I dont intend to take 2 gpu's or 3 hard drives.i'm just planning to have 1 7950 gtx and i 100 gb harddisk.will a smaller charge suffice for that?
and man... does it have a 4.1??i.e a subwoofer.my friend has a 9261 and there was hardly a heavy thump.do u have to configure it???
Thx

Even though you may not need the whole 280W, the charger is factory standard and specifically designed for this particular laptop.Trust me, there are numerous technical reasons for needing that much energy.
The speakers are above standard laptop speakers, and they do not distort even at 80-90% of the volume. However, they are not very powerful, since they require power also, but the 9261 features a 7.1 HD audio card so you can plug a high tech audio system and you will get crystal clear sounds and bass.
Why do you need another charger? :)

well i figured it would be better to have a normal sized charger than the monster given with the 9261.its really really big, bulky and slightly heavy 2 man.its almost like a 12" notebook

I understand your reluctancy to have such a charger, but think of it as a mini UPS for the laptop. If Sager could have come up with a smaller one, they would have, but the fact is that the charger has some pretty big capacitors and adapter to make sure that it won't choke in lack of energy. Anyway, 2 pounds is not that much considering the full 11 pounds the laptop has. It is after all a DTR (desktop replacement). :)
