Whenever my 5796 is running on the battery the CPU will not clock up. Using CPU-Z and opening an AutoCAD file the CPU multiplier stays at 6X. When on AC it works perfectly. I have tried both Balanced and High Perfromance power plans and have checked the CPU power management under each power plan. The maximum is set at 100%. The Silent Mode is also off I have checked that a few times.
Please help. This machine is a dog when the CPU is not allowed to clock up.

This is normal behavior. The battery may become overstressed. If you need more power plug it in.
If you would like to over ride these settings you can see if there's a setting in BIOS or use the Rightmark CPUclock utility software and create a custom battery profile. I'm not 100% certain it would work but if this software can't make that happen for you, nothing can.
Keep in mind that lithium batteries are limited to how much power they produce over time so by drawing too much power too quickly you will heat up your battery. Lithium batteries have been known to burn up if overstressed so be careful.
BTW I've seen this happen....you don't want one of these things inside your notebook when they go.

Just got off the phone with Sager Tech support. Whenever the 5796 is running on battery the CPU will be fixed at the bottom multiplier.
Woody, does the Rightmark CPU utility work on Vista x64? The PM45 chipset is also not listed under the supported chipsets.
Thanks for you help.

I'm not sure. You can get that information from their website.
Like I said though it's probably not a good idea to load a lithium battery beyond it's design limits. Discharge rate is a very important aspect of lithium battery design and you can cause damage by exceeding specifications.

I have the same notebook and have the same issue it will only run at full speed when ac is plugged in. You cannot override the power settings to high performance its locked to balance or power save modeeven when set to performance.I have also noticed when gaming a bad odor coming from my AC adapter and it runs real hot I think they may have supplied a AC adapter that can't handle the full load of the 9800gtx graphics card. The label says 120 watt max then there was another sticker stuck on that that says 130 watt max. I am thinking they should have supplies a 180 watt max ac adapter. I also have noticed when playing WOW for a long time the card struggles ocasionally like its not getting enough power.
