Looking to upgrade my 2yr old Fuji laptop. Great screen but struggling now with current games. Close friend recommended Sager/xotic, so I've been lurking and reading up on the current Sagers. The 5796 looks like a great machine and should be "game proof" for quite sometime.

It seems like the new model cycle for Sager is about 6-8mos and the 5796 is about 5mos (?) old. Do you guys see an updated 5796 on the near horizon?

I would say the next major upgrade in that model would be the release of the mobile Nehalem processors, which I believe are slated for 2Q 2009. Aside from that, you probably won't see any major revisions that will cause you to have buyers remorse. Thats just my two cents, someone else might have more insight than me though!

Happy Lappy Hunting!

Thx for response. I'll do some research on the Nehalem processors. In the meantime, any of you xotic guys have a sense for this...?

Keep in mind... there's always something on the horizon...

All of the major laptops currently out are pretty future proof for gaming.

the 5796, the 9262, the 8660, the OCZ Whitebook. Their lifetime before 'obsoleteness' is going to be longer than the previous generations of gaming laptops due to the huge improvements from the 8800M GTX and above.

The answer is always the same in the computer world. If you need it now, buy it. If you need it later, buy it later.

The good news is, right now, all your choices are good options for the future.

I got my NP9262 in january when it first came out. Already the 8800M GTX was replaced by the 9800M GTX.

The Kentsfield quad cores replaced by the Yorkfield quad cores. Same goes for the Mobile processors now replaced with new Penryns.

All the HDDs available are twice as big as before.

I'm happy with my purchase and have no buyer's remorse since I'm able to max out every game out there at 1900x1200 and get like 50 FPS, except for Crysis of course, but then a slightly lower res is fine for just that one game.

You will be in the same situation if you get your hands on any laptop with a 9800M GTX now. The CPU, not quite as important for games. All the games you will be playing will be GPU limited, not CPU.

Probably once a year, new models come out and replace everything. The people who wait, will wait forever hehe.
