SAGER NP9260 Specs?

Hello,

I am interested in a Sager NP9260. I have some questions beforehand:

1. You offer 64bit Vista. Are all drivers available with 64bit? What hardware will not work?
2. Is Intel's VT enabled by the BIOS? (This is needed for VMware running 64bit guests.)
3. Intel's P965 chipset can handle 8GB of RAM. When 4GB SO-DIMMs become available, will this be a realistic upgrade path? Or is the stated 4GB limit imposed by BIOS?
4. Is the slimline optical driver user upgradeable? With Blu-Ray when it will become more affordable?
5. NP9260 is advertized with Quadro FX graphics but this may not be configured in your shop? Why?
6. Do you support Linux? What about drivers?

So many questions... I hope some technically minded person will answer them all.

Hello RC :) The 9260 Fully Supports 64-Bit and comes with all drivers supporting this. I can not tell you at this time if the system will support up to 8GB of Ram. There are no 4GB modules on the market and there is no way for us to confirm this. You can upgrade the optical drive at a later time if you wish. As long as the Blue Ray is compatible with the system, there wont be a problem.

There is a new Quadro in the works and will be released soon. At this time we dont have the confirmed specs from nVidia. We will soon have the new Quadro Card for this model. I am sorry we have not tested this unit with Linux. Linux drivers are not included with the machine.

Hello Justin,

thank you for sharing all the information, that is good news. One question remains however. The virtualization capabilities of Intel's CPUs may be disabled by BIOS (in contrast to AMD's where this is not possible). Unfortunately most notebook manufacturers today decide to disable that VT switch by BIOS. Can you please be so kind as to do some research what is going on within the 9260 with respect to that?

We can enable the VT if you would like. At this time it comes stock disabled. If you want to order with it enabled please let us know :)

Justin - I'm going to need VT enabled as well for VMWare Workstation. I don't see anything in the BIOS regarding Intel VT.

How can I turn this on within a laptop I've already received?

If you can call support at 800-741-2219 i think they will need to provide you with a new bios to use. They will help you get this taken care of right away for you :D

Just to let everyone know. Sager sent me a new BIOS last week. I burned it to a bootable drive, and flashed the BIOS.

It took a while to flash (which had me a bit nervous because it ran for more than 30 seconds), but in the end, the system installed fine.

I'm installing VMWare as we speak.
