I have been doing researching on the G71G series laptops by ASUS and came across what might be some incorrect information. Asus does not have this laptop up on their site from what I could see so I could not confirm this.
Most sites have this unti listed as having 6GB DDR2 memory clocked at 800 MHz. You list the memory as 6GB DDR3 1333MHz.
Can you please confirm if this is a typo or if this is the correct clock speed. This is definalty a consideration for my purchase as with all hardware, if you buy yesterdays standards very soon that memory will become pricey and eventually out dated as we've seen with DDR to DDR2 phasing.

The specs that Asus has provided indicate this notebook comes with DDR3 memory. Once we receive this model notebook into stock, then we can confirm this. Until then we must list the specs as Asus has provided them.

Justin,
Thanks for your reply. I have been following the threads about this series and their estimated ship date and I see that they should be arriving within a week or so to you, is that correct?
Have you sold out of your first batch of these units yet or are there still some avaliable based on your pre-order sales? I'm just trying to gauge how long after the specs are confirmed it would take to get one.

^ That is correct. We expect to have them within the next 3-4 business days. :) We have enough coming in to fill all pre orders and will have extra stock for new orders. :D

Justin,
I'm guessing that the specs are finally in and the memory really is 800HMz? I see that the content of the site has all be updated to reflect 6GB 800MHz DDR2 memory (2GB x3).
How much of a performance increase of there over DDR2 800 vs DDR3 1066?

There is no major performance difference between DDR2 and DDR3 memory. You can view benchmark reports for the comparison of DDR2 versus DDR3 memory here (http://ixbtlabs.com/articles3/cpu/ddr2-800-vs-ddr3-1333.html)

Sorry I cannot answer the important question but want to add I agree with Justin. At this point on notebooks DDR2/DDR3 makes no difference. Low CL can almost overcome the clock advantage of DDR3. And on another note DDR3 1333Mhz on a 1066Mhz bus? I mean I don't get it? I always care about the speed the memory operates at not what it is rated at?

While I do somewhat agree, I have to also point out that there is no way of knowing what the timing of the memory I'm going to be getting is, unless I missed where that is published on this site.
For all I know most of the DDR2 800 MHz could be crappy compared to crappy DDR3 memory, and if thats the case those bench marks are moot.
Heres why, look at the numbers on the two memory:
- DDR2-800 memory: Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4, 2 x 1 GB, 4-4-4-12.
- DDR3-1333 memory: Corsair CM3X1024-1333C9DHX, 2 x 1 GB, 9-9-9-24.
Notice the huge difference in latency? That proves my point that GOOD DDR2 would beat CRAPPY DDR3. So the question remains, how do I know what the numbers on the memory I'm getting are?

From what I gather the G71G original spec showed it with DDR3 1333, but a last minute change was made and the units shipped with DDR2 800. The G71G is listed with 3x2GB 800MHz DDR2, on all the online distributors that actually update their information....
I'm pretty sure that the timings on the DDR2 800 on the G50vt were at 5-5-5-15, and would assume the same on the G71G.Someone should confirm for ya' tho.

5-5-5-15 are not bad timings. My Asus came with 6-6-6-18. I get 5300MB/s bandwidth. No comments on 1333Mhz RAM on a 1066Mhz FSB? Sorry to obsess but don't the company's that advertise as, I find misleading. I will mention it is not Xotic or PNB's. :)
1066Mhz is a JEDEC DDR2 standard if they ever make for notebooks will make DDR3 useless other than power consumption.;)
