does anyone know if asus has any intention of launching a 1440x900 version of the n80vn? it's perfect in every other way (in terms of what i'm looking for). and if so, does anyone know the time line for such a release?

No I do not know. But I do understand your desire. As someone who just bought the more expensive F8 I wonder why a better GPU for less? I do not and have never liked the camera that is clearly visible. I do not care about the swivel feature. The N80 does not have.

I started a thread asking what is the difference? I mean I can only assume the N80 has weaker case construction. Also until or unless F8 is phased out you are unlikely to see N80 w/WXGA+ as it would compete against F8. Take note it is LED? But why would a company compete against itself. I wonder why the price difference?
