Starting to think I am one of the few people who owns a 5797. To make matters worse, I ordered the laptop from Iraq, but it's sitting at home until I return at the end of Jan...

Anywho, if you own one and ran some bench tests, let us know how they turned out.

Here is a good website to start out at:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1017

Register and look around. They have a good community there. I read on there and other places before buying my 9262 which I will be testing in Iraq for the next year. Good luck on the research.

The laptop is running fairly well, but I am noticing some intermittant lag. For some odd reason, I think it's related to my Cavalry 1 TB esata drive, but I am not 100% certain. Anyone else have any problems like this... screen locks up, like going down to 1 frame per second in a game, for about 30 seconds, then comes back to normal. Heat levels seem to be fine, with more than adequate ventilation.

Other than that... Warhammer at 1900 x 1200 with every single setting on full, on a 28 inch external LCD, is simply put, amazing. 100% satisfied with this Sager vs the 9262 as I didn't want the added heat and power consumption. I can honestly say that going with the 2.8 duo and a single GPU vs the dual GPU and a faster desktop processor doesn't seem to bother me, as this machine is more than enough for 99.999999% of the country. And hell, I haven't even tweaked the machine yet!

The only downside, the silly case it comes with... had to go out and buy the Booq Python XL to match the quality of this machine!

The notebook will come pre-loaded with all of the latest drivers. If you need to update certain drivers, you can check out the Sager site (http://74.212.252.103/pages/notebooks/download.cfm?ProductType=5797), Nvidia (http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winvista64_179.48_beta.html), laptopvideo2go (http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/), or Intel's website (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=3062&OSFullName=Windows+Vista*+Home+Premium%2C+64-bit+version&lang=eng&strOSs=159&submit=Go%21) if you need updated WLAN drivers.

You know, I was so used to buying Toshiba and HP laptops, that I did the same thing, went looking for up to date drivers... ends up Justin and the gang already did the leg work for us.

Not having the best luck with Doc's drivers, so I am sticking with the ones posted on the xoticpc site for now.

It has been awhile since I actually got back into the world of computers. My first computer was a Commodore 64k. My other two computers were Gateway computers. The last one was bought in 2001 with a 900MHz Pentium Processer, 64 MB video card, 20 GB Hard Drive, not much RAM to speak of (maybe 386 MB), and Windows ME for the OS. My game days ended with Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour. It played ok, but I had to limit the number of AI players. Well after about a year and half of emersing myself in the world of computers, I decided on purchasing the Sager NP5797. At first my wife was kind of sticker shocked lol. But as pricing came down a bit, I convinced her that it was an investment. I ordered it on February 23, 2009, and received it a few or so days later. As I pulled it out of its well packed box, the weight of it kind of surprised me. As I further looked, the computer is built solid with better materials than most. When I opened it up, I felt it had the appeal of sophistication and class. This is by no means no store bought brand. After I got it up and running, I installed C and C Gen. Zero Hour to see how it worked. Holy Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!! The graphics on it is just beyond belief. I had the settings on the highest level, and it still didn't faulter. I played with several AI players and it ran better than I thought it would. It did get slow at times but that when there were tons of action from all players. I went out and bought a game called Crysis. I read in many articles and posts that people were judging their system on how well this game played. So I installed and loaded it up. I maxxed out the settings and began to play. I just stood there stunned while the game unfolded. I could not believe what I was seeing. It gave the feeling of realness. I could make out individual leaves on bushes, almost to the point of maybe seeing the veins on the leaf. The texture of clothing was intricate. It was cool. I can say that I am happy with every penny spent. And XoticPc's service both in sales and ordering were top notch. I am enjoying it for sure. I would definitely recommend this system and company to anyone.

YAAAAAAAYYYYYY, my 5797 is here, and omg it's huge! I didn't really think about the screen size in relation to my main computers screen... it's almost as big!

Still loading all my 'needed' programs and it'll likely take me a week to get everything settled, but tested in the 3 games I play and I think I may be in love.

I had to share the 'wheeeeeeeee' :)

I recieved my np5797 about a week ago. It is a FINE machine. Today however my keyboard cable caught my leg as I got up to file papers. Pulled the machine off the desk and crashed to the floor...

****!!!!

everything seemed ok other than the laptop cable snapped off inside the port and the remaining port on the right hand side seems unresponsive... the slider at the top right sprang off and seems to have a large split on the plastic that's over the screen so that the electronics inside are visible, the screen still works with no problems for now.

Unbeliveably depressing as I went out of my way to clean this thing EVERY night. Now the NEW feeling is gone, in a single week... I expect problems will slowly rise as I'm unsure what'll happen now and there could be internal damage...

Discuss tips, tweaks, suggestions or show off your new Sager.

Do all the fans in the NP5797 have proportional control?

Do you hear a fan in it that keeps switching between off and fully on while you are just checking the forums or other light computer usage?

Just trying to get an idea what the fan noise is like before I order one of these.

Thanks

Just received my new NP5797 yesterday and so far I have had alot of trouble leaving it. There is so many great things to say about it and I must say I am incredibly impressed. Thanks to everyone at XoticPC...the contact was fabulous, the machine was in perfect condition, not a single dead pixel...not to mention a great deal and quick shipping. Any place to give Xotic some good feedback? I know I dished out a good amount to you guys but I feel like there has to be some other way to repay you!!

EDIT: Lol I just made a HUGE post on my guild forums suggesting Sager and Asus and purchasing from XoticPC. Hope sales continue to thrive. Thanks again.

I went back and forth on deciding to try this or not, especially since I've never really overclocked anything before. I used the Phoenix Bios overclock settings (X1 then X2), which changes the multiplier from the standard 9.5x@2.53Ghz to 10x@2.66Ghz and last 11x@2.93Ghz at each level I watched temps for a few upon start up, then ran Fallout3 for several minutes checking temperatures again and never went over 64c, sitting on a Belkin notebook cooler (Zalman on the way). I have not ran any benchmarks as of yet, just taking it slow and making sure everything is stable first. Anyone familiar with overclocking want to give me any additional advice on this? (not sure if I posted picture correctly?)

I got a NP 5797 late last year before I headed to Iraq. This thing kicks ass. I normally play Eve Online and it can play the new enhanced graphics maxed no problem. I picked up Fallout 3 and ran it on max and it didnt break a sweat. I make machinima sets in Unreal and sounds stuff in FL Studio, as well as modelling and it works great for those too.

I usually run a cooler so the fans dont kick in. Without they are louder than a normal laptop but its not THAT loud. Id rather have mega cooling anyway.

Im in Basrah, Iraq now. Once I ran it in a tent with a cheap 2-fan plastic cooler at about 100 degrees and it didnt overheat so.. its combat zone approved heh.

I got this as a desktop replacement and yeah - its alot better than any desktop Ive ever had. Great Machine! Only reason I took the Stock Skin is so it wouldn't attract attention.

Here are the specs:

I don't really know a lot about overclocking, even though I read plenty and checked out some different commonly used programs:confused:. My Bios supports 2 levels of overclock from the factory ( X1 & X2 ), so it was a no-brainer overclock, lol... I don't run in overclock generally because even though the temperatures are not at dangerous levels, I have a feeling that the increased temperatures will shorten the life of components to some degree over time.

Hi, I have an NP5797 and am having a heck of a time trying to clean the high glossy screen without it smearing. I've tried a solution of distilled water and vinegar and an old undershirt and well as those cleaning lcd clothes from staples and the screen still smears. Note it's not scratched it just has smears on them.

Can anyone recommend a good product to clean these glossy screens?

thx

Well what I use may or may not be the "recommended" way, but I use a clean micro-fiber cloth sprayed lightly with Wal-Mart Vision center lens cleaner. And it works amazingly well. This cleaner has no alcohol or strong chemicals, obviously it's safe for all types of lenses (including plastic).

Just received and I'm already in love with it.
Far as I can tell... there are no dead pixels. That had worried me the most :).

I installed Windows 7 RTM and its running great.

My idle temps are
25C for CPU
43C for GPU
50C for HDD

Is the temperature for the HDD too high? I heard its supposed to idle in the 40s. It might be because i just installed an OS.

Now Im going to install some games now ;)

I bought this laptop one year and half ago with the P8600 2.4GHz and 9800M GTX. The first 3 months this laptop was floating in a temperature of 78-85 during gaming, but after that while it started overheating to 93C (only the GPU), while the CPU was at only 55C. I got it to Sager service, but no good. They only ""said"" :confused:the had changed the whole GPU, but nothing happened. I've already cleaned the fans and the heatsinks, but no result. In my opinion it's the TDP of the GPU that is faulty and so I had to downclock the GPU by 250MHz!!!!, and still goes up to 85C. What should I do now? Leave it as it is (this way I will need to change the GPU in 6 months, because it will be fried) or send it again to Sager?

Can anyone give me some help in how to connect my np5797 to my home theater receiver to have 5.1 surround sound? Do I use the spdif out port? My receiver has 3 digital audio inputs (2 toslink and 1 coax (rca). Can I get a toslink mini to either toslink or rca then go from the spdif out on my laptop to the in on my receiver? If so, will that give me 5.1 surround for watching movies? Thanks.

this should work.

also, another option is if your receiver has HDMI input/output, that should work, too. the receiver would send the video to your source while taking the audio. less cables to worry about tripping over. lol.

Thats the cable I was checking out but I wanted to post just to make sure. So the np5797 does do 5.1 suround output to the spdif port, all I have to do is plug this in?

Thanks for the input. It is much appreciated.

it should, and I also mentioned HDMI, if your receiver has it.
either one will output 5.1, HDMI will output 7.1 (i had to look up your laptop specs to double check)

Unfortunately, my received is about 5 years old. Works great, but no hdmi. If I upgrade, I was going to check on that as an option.

This cable should work great. I don't keep my laptop permanently set up by my tv anyway, I have an extra hdmi cable hidden under the tv stand and will do the same with this. Then when I set it up, I can just plug in the two cables and I will be good to go. Thanks again. The help is much appreciated.
