Hey NP8660/2 owners!
I am looking to join this club and
just wanted to throw out two questions at you guys,
How loud does your laptop run?
Idle?
Normal use, i.e. web browsing, word processor?
Under load? gaming?
Does it get bothersome?
How is the temperature?
Is it uncomfortable?
Thanks:)

The laptop is not loud at all but can get a tad noisy when loading a disc... nothing unbearable though. As far as temps, it does tend to get a little warm and investing in a laptop cooler may be a good idea for gaming (I got the Zalman NC2000 cooler and it's great btw), but then again its a performance laptop so heat is going to generate. It is neither too loud nor too hot in my opinion, although some people may whine or nitpick. Overall I think it's very solid and a great laptop!

Idle?
Not loud at all. In fact, you can't even hear the fan noise unless you're actively looking to hear it. There's a "silent" mode that also helps with this.
Normal use, i.e. web browsing, word processor?
See above.
Under load? gaming? Does it get bothersome?
It gets pretty damn loud. But you don't notice it due to game sounds and the fact that you're into the game (or you should be ;)).
How is the temperature? Is it uncomfortable?
I play games on top of a laptop chillpad, so no contact between the bottom of the laptop and myself, so can't comment on the comfort level when under full load. Light/idle, its not hot so its fine. The right palm/wrist rest area is unusually warm... Probably because of the ExpressCard that's in there.
Temperatures are as low as 30C (CPU) and 40C (GPU) to as high as 70C (CPU) and 80C (GPU), which is perfectly fine for high performance parts.
One thing I can comment about this laptop is the build quality. It's really solid, and I like it lots; one thing I hate is that there's no dedicated media keys... -_- Oh and mine came w/ a faulty motherboard, and had to deal w/ XoticPC/SAGER support to replace it (they were extremely nice :D).
Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase.

With the cheapest shipping I got mine in 7 business days - Ordered Friday, received on a Monday. Xotic/Sager had it manufactured and shipped in <3 business days... but UPS is another story.

Yeah I think when it first came out there were a few shortages with parts... That should be over now I'd think. I think I either slipped in right before or right after the delays. You should be good though they don't mess around.

Could you all turn off your NP8662's I am trying to get some sleep.:p:D
Just kidding. I have not reread the entire thread but since you guys are now getting them I really would like to read more bragging about performance. Be it benchmarks or personal experience. It would I think help others to decide the pros and cons and help me to suggest too others. Informal comments from you owners have much value. In some ways more information than a formal review? :)

I was thinking of buying the NP8662 laptop, but it seems a bit too costly for me. I was planning on keeping the laptop for 5 years(max) so I customized it to have 2.0 quad core instead of the default 2.53 dual. Is this a smart decision in terms of getting my money's worth? If you're wondering, I am getting the default video card that the NP8662 comes with. I am into gaming as well, and plan to game for the next 5 years with hopes of good performance.

I advise you to not get the quad core, as 2.0GHz is quite slow for each core, and games currently (and probably for at least a couple of years) support dual core. They're not supporting/taking advantage of quad cores.

That is now, but you should also think of the future you know? DX 11 is also going to add better multithreaded suport, ( which will be available to DX10 cards ) so games will have a higher likelyhood of supporting multicore systems.

I do have the future in mind. 2.0GHz is still way too slow, imo. I would've gone for the quad core if they offered a faster clocked version.

I have a 2.8 dual and I can not run max Crysis... idk why people say they can? I can run at a pretty high level if you tweak the settings right and lower the resolution. Yeah, you CAN put it at highest settings but get <10 fps. Yippie... haha
Boknora

It's possible that it might be your video card that is not up to date. I've heard many times that even if your processor has a high clock speed, the ultimate factor in gaming performance is your video card. Also, one question. I am planning on upgrading in the future when quads with high clock speeds get cheaper, so would it be find to keep a dual core at 2.55? Some people say that the difference between 2.53 and 2.66 is hardly noticeable in gaming.
DRY_ICE
07-12-2009, 05:39 PM
You're right... GPU is the biggest factor and yes it is up to date. The 8662 comes with the gtx260m so unless you swap it the 8662 does not run Crysis max. Oh, and as far as your CPU question... the diff even from 2.55 to 2.8 wouldn't be that noticeable. If you're strapped for cash go lower... the biggest consideration would be 25w vs 35w in dealing with heat generated (35 obviously being more).
Boknora
07-12-2009, 06:03 PM
Thank you for the information Dry Ice. Sorry I can't give an answer to your question though. I'm gonna go with 2.53 and save quite a bit of cash then, and possibly upgrade to quads in the next 2 years if needed.

I ordered my 8662 last week, can't wait for it to arrive. As far as the screen goes, I chose the WSXGA+, mainly because I figure 1920x1200 is too much for me for 15.4", and playing games in that native resolution wouldn't be so great.
Of course, now that I read up on it, I might end up regretting getting a glossy screen. So the question is, has anyone tried replacing the screen with a third party's? Is it possible? Would it void the warranty? For example, I took a quick look on ebay, and there's a few 15.4" WSXGA+ matte from samsung, dell, HP, etc that are ~$80; anyone know if they'll work? Is there one in particular better than the others?

got my NP8662 a week or so ago and i must say its pretty amazing. It runs everything i throw its way effortlessly and the build is very sturdy. Im surprised at how light this laptop is considering its so powerful.
One thing im pretty pissed about is this stuck green pixel i have near the left side of the screen, and honestly (since im kind of a perfectionist :eeek2:) that kind of thing is a deal-breaker for me. Meaning if I had known that this laptop was this powerful but I also knew it had a stuck pixel, I wouldn't purchase it. I've tried everything from running software over it to massaging/tapping etc. and it still wont go away. I understand its not Xotic's fault, but there must be something that can be done...and that dead pixel policy is way to pricy for anybody to be adding that in their order, so please dont bring that up -_-.

I show that your order was submitted at 07/07/2009 19:02:20 and paid with an eCheck payment which takes approximately 3-5 business days to clear. The order was then moved to production on 07/16/2009 11:29:50 and today is currently the 6th business day in production. The production process takes approximately 3-7 business days to assemble, customize, test, and final QA the machine. At that time the order is shipped according to your chosen shipping method.

Yea i said i tried software already and none of it works, UDpixel, Jscreenfix, some random color flashing thing i found on a blog. I've read things about people leaving the screen on for days and letting the software run but I'm not trying to let my laptop overheat and have the lifetime shortened over this pixel. All the things written about stuck pixels are for LCDs that you can turn off and on....but how do i turn the monitor on the LCD off and still have the computer on? I'd like to know if anybody could help.
I've tried massaging it with an uncomfortable amount of strength on the LCD.
I've used the tapping method and tapped it pretty dang hard. I used to be scared of this method because its very easy to get even more stuck pixels with tapping, but I did it anyways and still nothing.
Feeling hopeless i tried software running over it AND massaging in hopes of the two together maybe being able to solve my stuck pixel but nope, still nothing.
Honestly this stuck pixel thing is a bit of a joke...nobody wants to pay 1.5k for a laptop only to find out when they receive it that there's a stuck pixel. And its not a minor inconvience...i know it only shows up on darker images but when im watching a movie or videos...how can that green dot not get your attention. Like i said I dont blame xotic, but theres gotta be someway this can be solved. I didn't buy this laptop and expect to get a stuck (basically dead) pixel.

I understand you're frustrated because you're anxious for your new laptop. But whining about a schedule you "understood" and your impatience isn't useful to anyone on the forum. If you have an issue that has nothing to do with the computer itself, contact customer service. I think I speak for more than just myself when I say I'm a little sick of just seeing you complain about something you fully understood/chose yourself. Ignorant? Maybe. Necessary? Completely. Have a nice day/few days - you could use them to acclimate yourself to the grown up world. Haha.

you're really quite something. read up, i was simply making a comment about my timeline in response to another member's post about theirs. that's it. i'm fully aware of the echeck wait, i was expecting it, but still don't like it. but not biggie. i just hoped my burn in(3-7days) woould be more like 3, monday will be day 7. but you are right about one thing, i'm anxious. i can't wait to get it. but the rest of your comments are just ridiculous. i'm not sure why you had to get all rough and tough. really, you're not impressing anyone. so go use the forum for helping people and asking questions(what it's for) instead of just being some tough guy. now you turned the last page of this thread into an argument. this isn't about me, so please stop making it so.
fyi, justin, i have no problems with you guys or xotic. i've expected the timeline as it is with waiting for echeck to clear. the burning(3-7days) i just hoped would've been closer to 3. my only problem is this pompous knowitall interjecting in a simple conversation.

At least you recognize it somewhat, the next step is to realize what you've said and let it process a little. You're not helping anyone you're just annoying people with your ignorance. It's less of an argument and more of a nagging struggle with you digging your nails in to the dirt and refusing to let down your whining. I won't comment on it anymore - if you don't get it by now I should just assume you never will... the internet is after all open to everybody.

It's more likely than not that a printer driver wouldn't conflict with a change in sp. You should be fine if you don't want to update yet and install that driver. Worst case scenario is you have a conflict and you simply install/reinstall a newer driver. Also, that driver is from 2007, I highly doubt it would conflict being installed pre-update.

Agreed, if it breaks the triple digit thresh hold you might have a problem, but you should be ok. It does seem a little warm though, especially with a decent cooler assuming yours is. What's the temperature of the air in the places you're using it? It is the summer, if your room isn't cooled well neither will you computer.

I hope I'm posting in the right place. I just received my very first Sager notebook two days ago and so far I'm loving it.
However, I'm a bit of a pack rat when it comes to spare parts. Is there a way I can purchase some extra screws? I'd love to add them to my collection.
Second, I'd like to know how to go about changing out the optical drive. Most other notebooks have a single screw that holds the drive in place but I see no easy way to upgrade the drive on the NP8662.
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone,
I just received up my NP8662 about two weeks ago. Sorry I didn't share the excitement with you all on delivery day. Talk about an awesome graduation gift after college. Had to work with a budget cause I bought it myself but it was definitely worth the price. Here are my specs.
1680 x 1050
P8700 2.53 GHz 3 MB Cache
GTX 260m
4 GB RAM
320 GB 7200 RPM HD
Vista Home Premium 64 (gonna upgrade to 7 when it comes out)
This laptop is pretty powerful. Before this, I had a Gateway M series laptop with a Mobility Radeon HD2600. The computer was great and all but everytime I played Crysis, I would always compare "high" graphics to "med" graphics just to tell myself if only my card could run it. Well, no more pondering! I pumped through Crysis at "high" settings at 1680 x 1050 and easily (~25 fps). Ahh...I guess this is when the geek/enthusiast side of me shows.
Besides the gaming aspect, this laptop stays really cool. The history of the laptops I've owned ALL have had heat issues. HP Pavilion couldn't stop being a personal wrist heater, even after I sent it in to repair MULTIPLE times. As for my Gateway, temperatures would run up to the high 80s after gaming. I tried to get Gateway to fix it, but dealing with foreign people about technical issues with the computer really pissed me off. In light of all this, the NP8662 doesn't even break 62C right after Crysis with no notebook cooler. The fan slows down pretty fast too, say after 3-4 minutes after gaming. The hard drive does get a little hot. I tried installing Intel Matrix Storage Manager and the Chipset Utility. Apparently my version of the Chipset Utility is more recent so I just installed the Storage Manager. I FEEL like the hard drive is cooler, but sometimes it still hits 52 or 53C. I guess there is a slight difference though. The Sager's cooling system is very efficient and it gets the job done well. I think anyone who wants to buy a laptop should consider the amount of heat generated with their niche of usage. Not only is a warm/hot computer uncomfortable, but it doesn't promote durability.
Now the big question is will the laptop last for the next 2-3 years functioning the way it is now. I really doubt it since everything breaks down eventually, but I don't think it'll deviate too much if I maintain it. I was thinking about getting a can of compressed air to blow away dust. Check your vents! After two weeks of usage, I collected a lot of dust and that could really damage your internal components if it accumulates too much.
Oh, an one question for other NP8662 owners. Is it going to suck that bad when DX11 comes out and your gtx 260m is limited to DX10? You think, the GPU is swappable when the time comes?
Nonetheless, I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking for 15 inch power. No matter how hard other popular brand companies try to offer comparable 15 inch laptops for a lower price, the build and components of this laptop along with the other considerations like durability and reliability really stand out. It's very inconspicuous as a gaming laptop so it won't attract unnecessary attention. Everything about this laptop seems to mesh together nicely. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's because I'm still on the high after buying a new gaming laptop. But, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't this one crazy motherf****** beast?!

Anyone know where to purchase a gtx 260m? Xoticpc doesnt sell and sager is ridiculously expensive.
My husband and I got our matching computer's yesterday. I am impressed by how they look. The pictures just didn't give me a clear enough idea, but I have to say, they are very stylish in an understated way.
Also, going from .5 gig on my desktop to 4 on my Sager. Vrrooooooom.
I do have one dead/stuck pixel that I'm going to try my best to ignore. I have only noticed it at start up and then on this page - the background has to be very, very dark.

I took the plunge and bought the NP8662 today ! 2.8 with 25v, blu-ray player, Vista 64 (which will be a new experience for me) and everything else is pretty much stock. Read thru this entire post it feels like and was thinking about getting the Zalman 2000. Pretty decent choice? Only reason I ask is because the fans seem low on the pad but the intake is a bit higher on the notebook it self. Anyway. Any other suggestions would be great! Im pretty excited and glad I didnt wait for the GT628... MSI lost out :eeek2:

I use an external KB, the number of simultaneous keypresses that one can use on the laptops kb is limited to three. With a USB it is four. Without that fourth keypress I would be a newb in jets in bf2.
You're not the only one upgrading from 520MB worth of Ram to 4 gigs, I as well am upgrading from a 520MB PC to a 4GB laptop. I have joined the club by making my purchase today after speaking to Justin about my concerns regarding receiving my laptop before I leave for University. He was quick to respond--within 2 hours of my email--and assured me that if I upgrade to rushed production and did overnight shipping I will receive it within a week--before my departure date. The extra care for my order costed me an extra $200 but it is well worth it, and the regular price was $1500+ anyways. I must praise Justin for such stellar customer service, it was quick and friendly, unlike some of my past experiences with Dell. When the time comes to upgrade my laptop I think I'll go through XoticPC again.:notworthy Now I am just waiting for my laptop to be finished and delivered to me. Has any owners experienced any problems or have any concerns with the NP8662 other than the unstable spinning of the DVD drive?
Update: My laptop was completed in 1 and a half business day !!! It was shipped yesterday according to UPS--the notebook is out for delivery and I am waiting for it as I am typing this--and I wasn't even notified. The status of my order was updated today on the XoticPC. Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining about the fast production--I paid extra for the fast production--I'm just surprised the XoticPC team was able to do it under such a short amount of time. Kudos to you all!!! Hopefully I still get the grade A quality that the team usually offers. I'll keep you all updated when I get the notebook in my grubby hands. THANK-YOU JUSTIN AND PRODUCTION STAFF for getting this laptop to me on such short notice.
Update: After waiting for 11+ hours for UPS to deliver the package to me (can you believe it? 11+ hours in transit when it was in the same city as me 11+ hours ago) Installing WinXP Pro 64bit right now.
My review:
Last week I was in the process of selecting and purchasing a notebook from one of Sager's resellers--it wasn't at XoticPC--until I came across a bunch of positive reviews of XoticPC and a few negative reviews for the reseller I was going to do business with. After reading such positive reviews I decided I would give XoticPC a chance; but there was one problem, I had about 1 week before I leave for University therefore I would need the laptop built and shipped to me in a week. I immediately contacted Justin W.--the owner of the company--land we exchanged a few e-mails last Wednesday and Thursday. Justin responded to the e-mails in 2 hours everytime; I must compliment Justin for his quick and helpful responses, that is the type of customer service I am looking for. Which company could you contact the owner and have him respond to your concerns in such a short amount of time? The conversation mainly revolved around the ability of XoticPC delivering a laptop to me at/berfore a certain date. Justin assured me that I will get my laptop before my date if I upgraded to rushed production and overnight shipping. I placed my order on Friday of the same week and Justin put in a comment and upgraded the production to rushed for me since the checkout does not offer that option of rushed production. Later that day after placing my order I received a call from an accounting rep, Elizabeth, who was quite friendly, telling me that my credit card company denied the charge. When I sorted it out with my credit card company I called back and spoke with a sales rep who seemed enthusiastic to assist me, he transferred me to the accounting rep I spoke with earlier. I told the accounting rep that I sorted the problem out and I asked her how would I go about claiming the studet discount and she instructed me to either e-mail Justin through my student e-mail or send XoticPC a copy of my student ID--I chose the e-mail route obviously. I was exteremely pleased with the friendly staff at XoticPC and their ability to answer my questions, unlike other companies that I did business with in the past, who would transfer you around the world--literally and non literally--and still have your question not addressed. On the following Monday I checked the status of my order and it stated "Phase 2-build/burn in". The very next it showed that the order was shipped through UPS and when I checked the tracking number it indicated that it was checked in at 5:47PM PST the previous day; I'm guessing the website didn't get to update the status before shipping since it was after hours of operation, but nonetheless I was extemely pleased that it only took 1 and a half business day to complete my laptop. I finally reeived my laptop after waiting for 11+ hours for UPS to be on transit delivering my package. It took a total of 2 and a half business days--if you don't count Saturday and Sunday--for me to receive my Sager NP8662 from the moment of me placing the order, but it did cost me about $150+ extra ($49 for rushed production, which is quite reasonable IMO, and $100+ for overnight shipping). I regret paying for the overnight shipping, had I known that I could've gotten my notebook prior to the date I move out of state even with 3 day ground shipping. I was a little worried about the quality of the notebook at first. So far I have tested everything except the RAM and there are no dead pixels on the LCD screen. I have encountered 2 small: the loud noise generated by the DVD drive due to it shaking when running the CD, and the video camera driver not installing. The DVD drive is a common and known problem and I wasn't too surprised when it occured. The video driver problem was a nuissance though. I turned on my video camera and tried to install the driver from the CD that was included and it always gave me a message of "Make sure camera is enabled". I was certain the camera was on, because I checked the device manager to make sure it was enabled and I pressed the fn + f10 key and it said "camera power on". Eventually I had to give a call to tech support at 1 AM in the morning and the guy on the other line instructed me to download the driver from the Sager website. After downloading the driver it was able to install but after installation the BisonCam program wouldn't run, it would give me an error message that said "make sure to turn on the camera" even when the camera was on. The tech support guy thought this was stranged and advise me to check the device manager again, and low and behold... the driver wasn't registered. I tried to install the driver yet again, but this time through the device manager and it worked after that attempt. I'd like to thank the XoticPC team for delivering me such an excellent product, I will certainly do business with these guys again in the future and will recommend all my family and friends to XoticPC when they purchase a notebook.
EDIT:
PS: I would like to mention the mouse pad for the notebook is extremely sensitive--too sensitive for my liking. And I would like to note that I spent about 2 hours to type this review on my Sager NP8662 but Justin and his company deserves it for all the work they put into getting me such a good quality notebook so quickly. I am extremely pleased that the quality wasn't compromised by the speed of production.

I have a couple of quick question. How hot does the temp get when you have been gaming for 4 hours? Is the cooling system in the Np8662 sufficient enough without a laptop cooler? I have heard stories of peoples laptop's motherboard melting on them due to heat related issues (not np8662), just wondering if that would happen with the Np8662 or is it just cheaper non-sufficient brands?

I have absolutely no idea why, but for some reason my laptop doesnt seem to be able to read the battery charge level, or anything about it.
It always says its either 100%, or completely dead, even at full charge.. I have tried another program (called battery bar) and it gives the same readings..
What could be causing the problem and what can I do to remedy it?
Thanks!

So, I bought my Np8662 a while back in July and I have to say it's still running pretty darn well. I noticed my first small scratch yesterday and it definitely sucked. Haha! I'd recommend using a can of compressed air, but when you blow into the fans, lock/hold them so they don't spin freely as this damages the fans.

That's odd. I usually only go in to the 80's (90's if the room is hot) under heavy load. Maybe it's a little dirty or the fan on the cooler isn't set to high? The fan speed makes a good difference, as well as what surface it's on. A smooth flat surface will give the best airflow while a textured or bumpy (carpet, legs) would make the cooling less effective.

Well the thing about the winter is heat is turned on and the summer ac is turned on. It doesn't matter what it's like outside unless you have no ventilation system.
Those temps do seem a little high but at the same time it should be ok (it won't melt your system). What are you monitoring with? Have you checked the internals of the laptop? Something just doesn't sound right to me.

I am using hwmonitor and rivatuner. Both give the same results. I already tried reapplying thermal grease but It did not help. Just spoke with xoticpc and sager on phone and got a RMA. Its strange because the video card stays very cool when just surfing the net and watching videos never goes beyond 45c max. But after like 1 hour+ of gaming it gets in the 100c+ area.

I've had my NP8662 for about 2 weeks now and I'm very happy with it. I'm just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a 3rd party power adapter for this laptop. Yes, Yes, I know, I shouldn't cheap out on a power adapter on a $2000+ laptop. I'm not complaining about the price of the adapter from sager, but merely the size. I have tried the kensington k33197 120w power adapter, which was nice and slim, but the laptop actually froze within 10 minutes of use of that power adapter. I plan on using the 120w power adapter that came with it at home, but for travel to school, I want to have something a little less bulky.
Does it have to be a 120w power adapter? If it just wouldn't charge as quickly could you use a smaller one? Anyone have any success stories or suggestions?

Just had my first night with my 8662 today :) Its been amazing. Everything installed perfectly, everything works as promised, and the compy is beautiful as hell.
I've pretty much installed everything I've needed (just need to fix a wifi problem thats related to the modem and not the compy), and am working on transferring my old document files.
I've noticed that 64 bit is eating a quarter of my RAM though... and my card is running at about 50~ not too bad though, both stay stable even through additions of programs and running on my lap.
I have to agree on a bulky adapter, but I'm not sure on what to do with it. So far it isn't a big issue though. For some reason the right mouse button is harder to press, too... oh well for the most part this thing is awesome @_@

They have 195.62 out for windows 7 x64 based systems as that's what I just recently installed. I'm assuming this is the best driver as each time they update the driver, they add in the release notes optimizations for specific games as well as other beneficial tweaks.
Also, if you're interested in overclocking your card look into nVidia System Tools 6.05 (most current I believe). It'll allow you to change the core/mem/shader values on the card. I usually OC to 600/900/1500 respectively and get a nice little boost out of it with stable performance.

Well actually Nvidia has a bad habit of releasing drivers that break more than they fix, and so the "best" "new" drivers tend to be the same until several drivers down the line of research. That said, I'm not changing my drivers until maybe 6 mo. in... the ones they shipped with in Dec. are decently new o.o

And without getting into things I do not 100% understand so I cannot explain. Drivers are simple software or some might even say code? Yea I know the same but others do differentiate. Drivers are simple code to interface the only way updates will help is if the earlier was flawed. What you talk about improvements on certain games? In the real world 9 times out of 10 those are patches true fixes for what is really bad coding. The real problem not the HW interface? I played with drivers back in the day. Back with ATI rage and W98SE. It was a trade off and that means it is a trade off. One trick they have is even if you set say AA at something the driver does not allow. So now you think you have AA set at something and you FPS improve? Guess what not really. If you manually set to the same AA you would get the same FPS. This is just an example to be obvious but that is sometimes exactly what happens. I used one improved 3DMark and frames but could not pass a "check sum" test? Tricks.
Drivers are made to address issues the anomaly that they improve performance is anecdotal unless known issues. On notebooks your MFG has tested the most stable available at the time.
Do as Dry says but if issues remember what you did and consider going back.;)

Has anyone been having issues with their laptop while the power adapter is unplugged? I'm running Win 7 x64, and whenever I unplug the power it automatically down clocks the cpu (2.8) to 1.6. I have the power options set to high performance and have gone into advanced settings and set the minimum on battery to 100%. It doesn't look like the bios has any options for disabling ahci either :( I believe this to be a chipset driver issue, but i'm curious to see if any of you all have had any similar issues.

I believe thats a function of the Intel CPU's. That downclock occurs to me all the time - even on AC power - when I'm not actively using the CPU. You should check and see the speed when you're playing a game/using the CPU, it should clock back up to 2.8 Ghz.
I believe I saw an option for AHCI mode <--> IDE mode in Bios. But I wouldn't play with it once you've installed windows - bad idea.

Bios Version/Date - Phoenix Technoogies LTD 1.02.16S LS1, 5/13/2009
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) - 4.00GB
Available Physical Memory - 2.79GB
Disk Drive - Hitachi HTS723225L9A360 ATA Device (Size - 232GB (250 was advertised TBH))
Ran all the drivers off the driver CD that I got from XoticPC
Laptop ran great for months.
Problems started piling up eventually though.
1. Laptop gets INCREDIBLY HOT
2. Initially, speedfan and other programs read the heat readings, now they don't, not sure why...
3. Laptop makes annoying sound ALWAYS, and unbearable sounds when gaming. (Like vroom... Vroom... Vroom... Vroom) Sounds like a washing machine.
4. Microphone just stopped working, says drivers are all up to date, but mic doesn't work, not even external ones.
5. Battery Meter doesn't work, always has a battery with a red X over it, but says "plugged in and charging". Because of this I have no idea about my battery life ever. Other programs I've DL'd don't work either.
6. NO WHERE NEAR enough USB power. I have a NZXT CRYO Cooler, hardly works, when it's plugged in and I turn on the laptop, it says something like: "USB Hub X Overcharging" USB ports sometimes just don't work at all and I am forced to restart to regain functionality of mouse, iPhone charger... anything.
I'm beginning to get concerned.. I payed $1600 for this laptop, as advertised, it looks/sounds incredible.. But constantly encountering issues is making me grow tired.. Will anyone lend me a helping hand? Share some advice? Tell me who to talk to? Tell me how to fix these problems?
Thanks.

What we recommend doing is contacting the telephone technical support department for further troubleshooting assistance. View our contact us webpage for the technical support numbers here (http://www.xoticpc.com/contact_us.php).

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has found a way to overclock the 8662 as of yet?
I've been looking around and have yet to find anything that works. Would updating the bios allow overclocking in the bios?

Okay i got this baby in July, and wow i must say this thing has been through hell and back with me. Last semester I took a 3d animation class and the program we used was Maya 8.0. Very intense on the system while rendring .tiffs. I must have rendered out my project into 7 different scenes and rendered each 3 times. Maybe about 90-120 frames in each render i would say. Many computers at my school which are mac pros with intel xenos and desktop 8800's would freeze but thats probably due to the systems always updating. Even some of my friends at school complained of problems with their own computers freezing while rendering in maya. Although my sager always did so just fine and never gave me any issues whatsoever. I am also using this laptop for heavy photoshop work since i am the graphic designer for my game this semseter and photoshop cs3 blazes through this thing just fine. I am talking multiple layers opened with layer effects on and filters. I would say about 14 layers per .psd file and some are grouped. Again i ordered enough ram and cpu power to handle such things.
Oh then there is gaming. Batman: Arkyam Asylum plays great at high settings and so does Crysis. Since i dont have a 360 i will be getting Mas Effect 2 which should run just fine on this thing. Overall i am so pleased with xotic pc and sager. My previous 2 laptops were a Alienware area 51 m5500 which had a pentium m and a macbook white model with a decent core 2 duo but a lousy intel graphics chips. I think i got the best of both worlds with my 15inch notebook and then some. I have tested every component from the webcam, finger print reader to the dvd burner and everything has been a smooth ride. I cant complain about anything. Maybe the fact that i dont have much HD space left (89.3 gigs) would be my only fault but the again that my issue for not ordering a bigger drive. I would like to think i am spoiled by Sager Clevo and xotic for being so helping in my school work and play time. I am a customer for life.

Ok guys,
I think I have a problem here. I see visible vertical line on the boot screen and the windows wont boot completely and hangs. I think its a gpu problem (9800gt). Then i run it on safe mode to uninstall the driver and rebooted to find vertical lines still visible even using vga graphics adapter.
Help me!!

I've had my 8660 for two days. It seems like a solid system, but still loading software.
One issue is the Turbo Memory 2.0, I can't get it to enable the "ReadyBoost". The selection is grayed out and can't be selected. The memory console shows that it has 4 Gig, and has Ready Drive enabled.
Any ideas??

Hello,
I have an NP8662 and having a similar issue above with my 2gb Turbo memory. I can click "enable ReadyBoost" but each time I restart, it comes up not selected again. I searched under this thread and did not see another post- very much apologize if this has been asked/answered. If someone would share a link?
Thanks
David

Hello *,
I also began to get troubles with this machine. Own mine 8662.
First of all, under heavy load the temperature is getting damn high. I mean, really - up to 105 Celcius degrees (after I noticed that, I yelled and turned the machine off). Now the automatic protective mechanism is working correctly, and it shuts the power down when temperature reaches 96 degrees - and I must say, it can be easily achieved. So I have to use RMClock to force decrease CPU clock rate from 3.06 to 0.83 to lower the temperature, when it gets critical. Using 2.78 GHz nearly gets me out of this problem, yet... I'm not really happy with that =)
One more problem is, I guess, related to heat problem. While using SOME full-screen applications like games, the picture will in random moment just freeze. Does that in WinXP, Win7, Red Hat and Ubuntu - no exclusions. I can still live with this, as this happens not in every program, but the number of problematic applications is dangerously growing.
Maybe anyone knows what can be done to get rid of this freezes? =)

Welcome to 2011 my sweet sager 8662... I still think you're a quality machine capable of handling anything today has to offer - even though I built a desktop to replace you.
Hooray for reviving a dead thread!
P.S. @ Unmesin it sounds like your fan is failing or dead. The 8662 is a breeze to open up, maybe you should take a look.

I tried to upgrade my NP8662 to 2x4GB of DDR3 RAM (currently has 2x2GB of DDR3). It wouldn't boot at all, just a black screen and the wifi light was yellow. I tried both sticks individually thinking one of them could have been faulty, but no dice :(

What speed of memory did you get, and do the original sticks still work after trying the new ones?

I tried a BIOS update and each stick individually (thinking one of them could have been bad, but that didn't work). The old RAM still works.
Here's the specs:
Current RAM:
2x Transcend 2GB DDR3 1066 SO-DIMM

New RAM:
2x Corsair 4GB DDR3 1066 SO-DIMM

I just checked the user manual -- 4GB is the maximum memory supported (2x2GB). 1GB sticks are also supported, but not 4GB sticks.

Right, I read that as well, however when I bought the laptop, I had the option of getting 2x4GB sticks as an upgrade. I've also read of people putting in 2x4GB.

I have an np8660 machine and when at work i would like to connect the display to external monitors.
Is there any way to get the screen to output to 3 displays? If not how about just 2 external and not the laptop screen?
