when i try to open up anything that uses windows explorer, it fails to open. however, if i am online, my notebook seems to work just fine. i havent made any changes to anything. a few hours ago all was fine, but now it seems i have a prob. did a system restore and that didnt fix the prob. did a registry scan from CCLEANER and didnt find anything. ran spybot search and destroy and no probs. what could be causing this problem? anyone? lol thanx!!

The description of your problem doesn't make much sense to me.

Are you using Windows Vista? Windows explorer is basically the Windows interface so I assume Windows was frozen? If you fixed it by doing a system restore it's possible you installed something either deliberately or inadvertently that caused conflicts or problems. Possibly a virus or a bad driver update?

I recommend you reinstall your anti virus or at least make sure it's fully functional. Then perform a full scan. Also run a full scan using Windows Defender.

Once you do that you should also consider turning off system restore, rebooting, then turning system restore back on to eliminate any dormant viruses that may be hiding in restore points.

Are you using 'Windows Explorer" or "Internet Explorer"? They are different. Describe your issues more. I don't think a virus issue (but yes it could be) say more. might be an easy fix?

The thing I've found is that most people, not some but most, who are using the Internet with Windows and don't consider themselves computer experts are infected with something whether it be a nasty virus or just annoying spyware that interferes with normal computing and slows them down as well as causing instability.

my pc is spyware free. still all is working fine. as for the above comment, i was referring to windows explorer, not ie7 or ie8. any apps or files i tried to access or run it wouldnt. kept saying crap like windows explorer failed to load...lol but like i said, i resolved the issue last week or whenever when i did a restore. if it happens again i will turn off restore, reboot, and turn it bk on again. thanx for all the brain storming guys.
