Well I've had my machine in hand for 1yr and 2 days when I discovered that certin keys on my keboard no longer work. Esc, F9 (which is really frustrating because I now can't turn up the screen brightness), Left Shift, Left Ctrl, and the delete key. :( they all stoped working at the same time. I've already tried reinstalling the drivers for it and am pretty confident it is a hardware issue, unless someone could direct me otherwise. I'm a little confused on why some keys are no longer functioning while others are perfectly fine. Any advice would be helpful.

Tnx all

Is your notebook completely virus free? You could try booting into dos and try the keys to ensure it's not a windows issue.

I would recommend re-seating the keyboard. You will see 3 tabs - One in the top left, middle and top right. Push them in with a paper clip or small flat screwdriver and raise the keyboard up on top and remove.

Pull up the locking mechanism that holds the ribbon to the motherboard, remove and re-insert & lock. :) You can also try blowing a little in there to ensure there is no dust particles causing a connection problem.

the connection seems secure and a quick blast of air did not yeild any positive results. (a full system scan from norton antivirus shows no viruses or spyware) anything else I can try?

on a side note: is there any way to turn up the screen brightness aside from Fn F9? the dim screen is driving me nutz :)

Nvidia control panel ;). Keyboard wise, I'm guessing wear and tear. Maybe a repair is in order?

I guess I could have been a little to zealous while gaming :D I was the kind of kid that played NES like most kids play the wii now, tiping the non-motion sensor controlers hoping that extra little effort would make the ultimate trick in skate or die!

Seriously though, any advice on the next step?

2 weeks later and I still don't have the use of a number of keys... after many attempts at both software and hardware fixes I was at a loss. finally my wife confessed that our beautiful 15 mo. old boy (who gets into everything) was found pounding on my keyboard before I got home 2 weeks ago :eeek2: So I guess my next question is:

does XoticPC sell extra keyboards? and if so how much do they cost?

Tnx for all your help

Unfortunately we don't offer a replacement keyboard here (http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-specific-accessories-sager-np5790-5791-5792-5793-5796-c-95_51_145_198_227_221.html) in our accessories section for the Sager np5792. The quickest way to purchase a replacement keyboard is to contact Sager at 1-800-741-2219 and purchase the replacement keyboard over the phone. The replacement keyboard should be right around $49.00 :)
