I am looking to buy a laptop. I have had the same desktop for 6 years... I plan to use it mainly as a gaming machine with the odd school work thrown in.

I was looking at the

Sager NP5793 approx 1500
and
Sager NP77750 approx 1000

I was wondering why I can build what seems like almost identical machines but they have a huge price difference. I know the 5793 has a better graphics card, how much better is it? a good GC is highly important to me, I want to be able to play any PC game on the market with this machine. (maybe not Crysis from what I understand). Any other model suggestions would be great too! Thanks for any help!

$- 1600 or less

The features that stand out as being different so explains some of cost. Well the 9300m GS is bottom end Nvidia current discrete graphics. Will not game well at all. The 9800m GTS about the second most powerful mobile card at least Nividia wise and yea even overall single card. That is the first and most obvious. 2nd screen resolution the less expensive has what for a 17" is considered low the NP7353 is the highest. Further inspection shows 2 GB vs 4GB consider that say $50.

I would also throw in the intangible. While both Clevo and I am certain both are well built. The NP5793 was Clevo's flagship mobile platform gaming notebook. That said I suspect just overall better build and touches. The NP5793 meets your needs the NP7750 falls short. It simply lacks the graphics power you want so should not even be considered. I am sure a nice system but not for any gaming.

Others? That system is a price grabber. Last years top of the line still has much that made it such last year. I can't recommend a better overall system. I can offer better performance components and updated options? But while I have all confidence in the "shell" I am not going to say better or even as good. And by not as good I in no way mean bad. I just mean that NP5793 was the best so others are not quite there but still good and well built.

Asus offers some but I don't think they overcome per se. I like the new MSI the main benefit that has over NP6793 at similar price point would be blue ray. Does that matter to you? I mean for me it does not for others it does? And finally the OCZ Extreme.

The advantages the three options I have mentioned have other than listed is current platform vs last years. Comes down to make simple faster FSB and different CPU options. Real world that benefit does not offer substantial benefit to most users.

All that Xotic sells is quality you must decide what fits you best. I like Asus very much but for reasons I don't think apply to you. I mean I mentioned Asus but of all do not think I would go for if you.

The MSI I like best in your budget but it would be a pre-build order. I think they keep pushing back. There are sometimes issues with being the first to own a new model. The Sager has a track record.

The OCZ has a short history and I don't know of major issues yet. But it just lacks the history of the Sager. If I were you the NP5793 would be a solid choice. If the NP5797 was in budget that would be the updated version.

I personally would consider the MSI and OCZ because I trust they are made well and on the OCZ the warranty is very good so if issues covered.

But if well made hassle free system is most important I just can't argue against the NP5793.

Good luck, any questions post back.

Thats amazingly helpful and has explained a lot! Thank you so much for that. Saved me buying a extremely inferior system!
