Hi.

My Asus g1s acted up once two weeks ago, with a vertical stripe on the screen that went away after a powercycle.
Today the screen remains black, and powercycling does not help, nor did powering down, removing the battery and waiting.
Sample problem with two different HD's running two different operating systems.
Connecting an external monitor shows a badly garbled display, both in BIOS setup, during boot and running vista in safe mode. Attempting to load vista causes the laptop to crash and reboot.

I checked Asus's service page, which directed me to my vendor - Xotic pc. I have emailed support and (right now) posted on the forum. Are there any other steps I can take?

Cheers,

Jacob

A very hard read. But I must give you credit because you really did great diagnostics. So while a hard read. It is your GPU, Good you did all those HDD tests but not needed.

As a rule for all you kids when display is an issue? Then safe mode does not even work? Then now god forgive the BIOS or DOS is bad? 99% chance bad GPPU?

Oh and the running of a second OS was a real twist for me. It did diagnostically help, I guess but really? What?

I agree with powerpack, it is more than likely your GPU that's having issues.

What GPU are you using ?
Have a bitter taste lately for nVidia as I had a Defective 7600go in an HP9000 series give out on me, of course after the warranty had expired and 8 days after recieving my 5793, I had to send back to Sager for replacement of..............a bad GPU !
