I've had a 5790 for a bit over a year and a half now (got it in August '07) and lately whenever I play a game (Guild Wars, Spore) it shuts down after a very short time, less than 10 minutes. I just downloaded SpeedFan and it doesn't read the GPU, but just from web browsing and IMing, the CPU is sitting around 67-70. I haven't cleaned out the fans...ever (I'm a bad computer owner, I know) so I imagine this might help, but is this probably why my laptop's shutting off?
Thanks.

OK yes heat is bad. You should open up and look inside. Is there a lot of dust? Clean it.
Try CPUID for temps including GPU.
But clean it yes it could be the problem.

I never really realized how hot it was running. :P
And CPUID doesn't read GPU temp either, it just has the 2 cores, HDD, and ACPI.

I didn't write it out sorry. CPUID HWMonitor? Mine did not either but version 1.13 does for me the others did not.
Don't know it will show GPU but I had the same. No GPU thought I had no sensor. 1.13 shows all.
Good luck check your HWM version. Even pro has a limited trial if no luck w/1.13?

Yeah I got HWMonitor version 1.13. It didn't show GPU temp, and neither does the Pro version.
I'm on 64-bit Vista though, so maybe the 64-bit version doesn't have GPU temps for some reason.
I'm using HWMonitor 1.12 in Vista 64-bit, and it shows my GPU temperatures fine. An alternative is RivaTuner, which can give you GPU temps in your taskbar. Look on NotebookReview for a guide to setting it up, though, because you need drivers specific to 64-bit Windows.
What GPU do you have?
