Okay lads, I have had some time to install all my favorite goodies on this machine and I have just a few questions.
What are the safe temperatures for this machine, I think my cpu is getting a little hot in fact. I was playing some L4D and my cpu temps went to 78 and 68 and i forgot to take a screenshot of those temps but the computer didnt feel very hot. I thought that maybe i had silent mode on (its difficult to tell the difference, i had to check if the fan was on and playing under full load, the noise this beast made was less than my older non-gaming laptop at idle so for me those noise rumours are very exageratted.
Afterwards I decided to have a go at Fallout3 to check the game and the temps and here is the result. I was very impressed, the gpu is etremely cool (I believe that GPU has very high heat resistance and many hard core gamers push their temps up to 95 an feel comfortable with it) in all situations though so that is a bit of a surprize.
Anyway. What are the safe temps for laptops lads?

Another quick question waiting for you lads when you all wake up.
I know there is manual fan control in the sager laptops and I have read that people choose the fan full options.
I only have silent and normal mode. should there be a max or is standard the full option?
I have no desire to cook with this laptop ;)
Cheers lads :)

I have posted this question over at NBR and although the general consensus is that these temps are not dangerous but is very hot for a P9600 and that the Artic Silver 5 paste is probably missing or applied badly. Do you guys think that this is plausible?
I went to the local computer shops to ask if they have it or know where I can get it, they have no idea.

95C is extremely hot, and extremely dangerous to have a GPU running at. Your GPU should generally run between 55C - 61C idle, and 65-72C at full load, providing you have adequate ventilation (No laptop cooler). With a laptop cooler, you can expect 49C-55C idle, and 60-70C at full load. Now, I dont exactly know what the internal structuring is for the 8662, but my NP9262 with a Q9650 and dual 9800M GTX's run at roughly the aforementioned temperatures , with that being said, if you are only running ONE video card, and not a Quad Core CPU, you should expect even lower temperatures. Never should a video card run at 95C, and if it does, you can expect abnormal visual effects such as random "snow" and blotchy textures. Those are the signs of overheating. You can also expect a very short video card life, and be expected to shell out more money for another card.
Thermal compound comes in two variants. Liquid, and a tape-like pad. The difference between the two is that the liquid can withstand higher heat, but has to be re-applied more often than the thermal pad and has a much shorter life. Better for overclocking. The thermal pads dont hold the same high heat threshold, but have longer lives and are safer to apply. If you are looking to overclock and dont mind cracking open the case more often, go with the thermal paste. (Arctic silver) If you are looking for low maintenance, higher reliability without the better heat transfer and dissipation, go with the thermal pad. (Which arctic silver also makes). You can get both at www.newegg.com Hope this helps.
Rep plox? Mos know a little bit of his stuffz?
-Cheers!

I just thought I would inform you guys.
I went and bought some Arctic Silver 5 paste and went to this guy today who applied it for me.
The CPU had very little paste applied which he r
eapplied, the GPU had a decent amount but from what looked like another substance. Anyway, he replaced both and so far the results are:
CPU at idle are 10C lower and when under full load *earlier tonight only 5C cooler but later on is now about 8C cooler*
GPU at idle is 5C lower and under load is about 2-3C cooler.
Please keep in mind: that I did this testing the same day it was applied and I understand that it can take 50-200 hours for the paste to propery set so I expect slightly better results but not noticably but I will let you guys know :)

I would hope that in general the right amount is applied, and not too little, since Artic Silver is actually listed on the customize page.
Guess I will find out if I am running to hot whenever I receive my laptop.

The laptop wasnt running in dangerous temperatures, far from it... it was just high for a P series processor apparently.. :p
When he opened the laptop he complimented how wonderfully designed this Sager is, the build is very clean and neat... what really impressed him is that the builders put that fan cable (which is a little bit longer but understandably so) to the side and tucked it in so it looks very pretty too :wink2:

Good to hear. :D
Still waiting for word on my laptop. It shipped to the skinning facility 14 days ago, and I am still in the dark on any progress at all. It arrived there last week according to tracking but I have not got an update yet that the skinning process has begun. A little worried that this is taking so long, since skinning is supposed to take 3 to 7 business days, and I am on the 8th day and I have not even heard that it has started yet.
