I know that you guys are filling back orders and all that good stuff, so I'm wondering how the stock on the 8662s is holding up, or will there be another long period before more parts come in for those who order soon?
I'm literally on the edge of ordering, but I can also get an asus G50vt b1 right here locally, already built and ready to go.
I am still having a hard time coming to terms that I've yet to see a sager in person, let alone use one, versus being able to get my hands on other laptops out there and having a strong understanding of what i'm getting into.

They are what they are. The Asus is very nice and a good notebook. The 8262 is better. But if site unseen is an issue I can understand that. There are return options if just completely not going to work inquire about that if it might ease your mind?
But I would think most would be happy with an Asus. I am but different model.

The Sager 8262's are in stock and shipping in 3-7 business days. We are at the end of back orders that were placed before they recently just came into stock. The 8662 is the most powerful 15" on the market today. :)

Did you mean 8262 or is that a typo for the 8662?? ;)
If it is the 8662 then I better get my order in quick.
Guess I make a final decision on the exact build and just jump in and try to finalize the skin choice ASAP.

Order placed, I've waited long enough, though I did make some changes to what I planned to get.
Here's hoping there are enough in stock to get mine out soon. :D

I just took the plunge and put the order in!
I was on the fence about buying an asus G50vt at a local retailer, but for nearly the exact same amount of money including shipping and handling, i was able to configure the beefier sager machine. It just was no contest.

My order went in on May 4th, just about the time that shipment came in. I wonder if I'm part of the "back orders" or not. I haven't had a status change since the 5th, and was thinking of e-mailing service at the end of the day if it hadn't changed...but I don't want to be a pest either. I'm just antsy. :D

Mine was just upgraded to Phase 2 today as well. :smile2:
A nice lady named Elizabeth called and spoke to my wife letting her know my order was up to Phase 2. It's a good thing she knew I ordered it, or I'd be sooooo dead right now. LOL.
Good timing on the order methinks.
Granted, not looking forward to the next credit card bill or two, but oh well, what else is new? :D
Finally bit the bullet and ordered my NP8662 this afternoon. Hope it doesn't take too long for it to get here...the wait's going to be terrible. =p

ROFL, the truth is always funny, you just need to look at it the right way.
She got my old 13" laptop when hers died, and I needed a larger screen anyway due to my vision getting worse due to diabetes.
I'm impressed alone with the fact they called to let me know they were building it now. DELL barely gives you a heads up when they actually ship it, nevermind get it assembled.

I went to Phase 2 the day after I ordered, so as long as they have stock of the specific items in your build, you shouldn't be far behind.

Keep in mind, an order won't enter "Phase 2 (Sent to production)" until payment has been received and verified.
I paid using credit card, so it shouldn't take too long to be verified, I hope.

Lucky you, that was my hope, but I think I ordered a couple days too late for that.
I already prepped a new USB stick with the latest Windows 7 build to install once it's here.
Can't wait!
I was going to do the USB install, but I want the 64-bit version, and I only have 32-bit Windows now. You can't make a 64-bit version of Windows boot from a USB stick using a 32-bit version. So it's DVD or nothing for me...had to actually order a DVD burner for the desktop so I can get Windows 7 on my laptop when it gets here.
I am really jealous of you guys getting it before the holiday. I've probably still got another 2-3 weeks to wait...mine still hasn't even gotten out of Phase 1 yet. Since it's apparently normal for it to go into Phase 2 the day after you order, I'm getting kinda worried that something's holding up the payment/verification.
EDIT: Wow, holy crap. As soon as I posted that an email popped into my inbox saying I'd been updated to Phase 2. Does Xotic hire psychics or something? =o

You can easily make a USB installer for 64 Bit Windows 7.
Download the 64bit RC-1 build from MS.
Follow the guide here to make a bootable USB stick......
http://dotnetwizard.net/vista-stuff/tips-how-to-bootinstall-windows-7vista-from-usb-flashhard-drive/
Copy the files from the Windows 7 DVD to the USB stick

Then again, I'd rather have it tested to be rock solid before it ships, so if I don't have it for the weekend I guess I'll live. ;)

I just got hit with an "out of stock" on the cpu I picked, so now having to settle with a lower one than I wanted.
Figures though, the one time I try to get a top of the line machine, something isn't available.
Sigh. :(
Whole thing has completely killed the high I had for getting the machine.

Seems like everyone everywhere is out of stock on the cpu.
The few I found who claimed to have one in stock want $450 or more for it, highway robbery.
Is it being phased out or something I wonder?
I know I could have gone with the T9550 at the same speed, but I didn't want the extra wattage in a machine that was already going to be running hot.
I dunno, just depressed about it all atm. Took me forever to make up my mind and order and now it's going to cost me, story of my life.

I'm sure it will be fine with the higher wattage, they wouldn't offer it if it didn't work well within that laptop, at least I wouldn't think they would. I would be lying if i didn't say that I was disappointed too, I just spent the last two months going over the merits and demerits of every laptop that I could think of. To finally decide on a make and config, have the order go through and in the process of being built just to have it changed on you is kinda sucky.

I emailed them back but I figure they are gone for the day.
Told em to put in a P8700 for now, though part of me is regretting that now in a way. Maybe I should have just gone with the T9550 and just dealt with the extra heat.
Maybe I'll drop another email and do that, I gotta think about it a few though. Planning to put in one of the new 7200 rpm 500GB laptop hard drives so heat is gonna be an issue I think.
Then again, 2.53 isn't far off from 2.66 and will the extra 3MB of cache really help much?
Sigh. :(

The way I look at it, the cpu is probably best cooled, most looked at part of the machine, so I wouldn't expect heat to be an issue in that regards. Also, its not like the cpu and harddrive are sitting on top of each other, so doubt it would be a problem. I think you would be happiest getting the closest approximation of what you originally ordered, that's what I'm doing.

Yeah, I guess so.
I sent a second email telling them to ignore the first one.
I'll try the T9550 out and see what sort of heat it puts out with a 5400rpm 500GB hard drive and if its not too bad, I'll toss in the 7200rpm drive.
Worst case I roast marshmallows all summer.
Still upset about this whole thing, but not much I can do I guess.

I wonder what kind of volume these guys go through. It's been over 24 hours since I told them that I was ok with getting a T9550, but I have yet to get a reply or update on my order reflecting as such. I even talked to someone in customer service earlier using the chat feature, and he said I should see an update soon, but that was around 10 am this morning. *shrug* I hope the laptop isn't just sitting there not being worked on because they haven't checked the email with my approval in it from yesterday.

I'm in the exact same boat as you, BKR. I've ordered an identical machine. Justin informed me that the P9600 CPUs were backordered on Thursday and I opted for the T9550 instead. I was actually relieved to hear that the T9550s were also backordered.
I chose to wait a cople of weeks on the P9600. Thankfully, my travel situation has changed and I can wait the extra week or two. I'm actually buying a beefy laptop for work - at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it... (Just don't look at the game purchases on my credit card bill!)
Anyway - Thanks to Justin and the XOTICPC team for excellent communication and great service!!

If the T9550's are backordered too, then I might as well wait on a P9600 since it's going to be a while anyway.

You must not have a P9600, T9550 or T9800 cpu then most likely.
Just checked my emails and found another status update, and all of the high end cpu's are out of stock for at least a week it looks like.
So now I'm back to waiting for the P9600 I wanted in the first place.
Maybe I'll get lucky and my Dell A90 will show up soon so I have something to mess with in the meantime.

I thought about getting a P9600, then I was going to get a T9550 since it's the same performance and just a bit less battery life. But I figured that it wouldn't be enough of a performance increase to justify $130. Really glad I just went for the P8600 now.

05-22-2009, 10:44 AM
My last laptop had a 2.4Ghz cpu, and I just wanted something better this time around.
The P9600 is the best mix of power/heat/performance from what I've seen people say, so it was sort of a no brainer.
I don't need quad core in the laptop, so that didn't even come into the decision.
I'm in no dire need of the 8662 at the moment. Been limping along with the old laptop for now, but had hoped for quicker turnaround was all. If the laptop I have now dies, I'm sort of screwed, and may be forced to buy a laptop locally just to get by on until the 8662 ships.
On the flip side, I worked as a PC and Networking Tech for 6 years before getting an engineering job with Verizon planning their FIOS network rollouts, so I understand when demand is high and supplies are low, and unless you are a "big dog" you don't get priority on those few parts that are out there.
Many a time we had to hold up a server due to lack of HD's or memory.
Ahh, the good old days......NOT! ;)

I'm trying to research if there is a noticable performance difference between the two. In theory, I could low ball the cpu at first, and get one of the higher end quads as they come out, if they are supported... It's hard to get information on t his stuff since its new tech

That was my thought earlier, but I didn't want to deal with swapping out the cpu and worrying about the heatsink and thermal paste hassle. In a normal PC case, sure, I do it all the time, but it's a little more forgiving than what could happen in a laptop that has much more limited cooling ability.
Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I'd rather play it safe on a $2000 machine.
I'll wait out the P9600 and hope in the end it's justified.

We anticipate that your system will ship sometime next week, and we will update you with the tracking number once it ships. Thanks Xotic PC
I'm back to phase 1, but they anticipate that I will ship next week at some point, which is good.

I haven't gotten any emails yet. :(
Dropped them a note just to see if they can give me some info as to where my order stands.
I ordered on May 16th so it's not too bad on time yet considering each one is custom built to order.

I can see on the build an 8662 page that the new CPUs are now listed, which means they must have lifted the NDA on displaying those. The question remains, have they gotten the CPU's yet? I have yet to see my order updated that it is being built again, and I have yet to hear what CPU I'm actually getting with my order.

The NDA was lifted due to the announcement of the new processors at the Computex conference in Taiwan. I would believe that suppliers already have the new processors or will get them very soon.

I see. Well, I don't see them listed as a pre-order item, so maybe they are in. Here's to hoping, because I'll be needing the laptop soon for SOE Fan Faire in Vegas in a couple of weeks.

I just got notification of Phase 4 - shipped.
Interesting - it jumped from Phase 1 (back ordered CPU) directly to Phase 4. I guess they completed the QA checking from phase 2 prior to bumping it to back ordered. I imagine the laptop was sitting there with everything in place except for the CPU...
Anyway, thanks to Justin and everyone else at XoticPC for their continued excellence in communication and customer service!! :notworthy

Thanks, I can see that I jumped from Phase 1 to Phase 4 between last night and this morning, so I guess it's on its way =) Nothing mentioned what my p9600 got replaced with, would it be the P9700 or the T9600?

The P9600 was discontinued by Intel and replaced by the P9700 CPU. If you selected the P9600 when you submitted your order, then you would have been upgraded to the P9700

Welp people, the journey has ended, and the laptop has arrived. I've got it right next to me at work, although I have yet to boot it up yet! It looks fantastic, solid as a rock. I work at a game company, and everyone has been coming by to look at it, claiming how jealous they are =D Thanks xotic!
