Hello. I am a Game Design student and I will be focusing on level designing and creating mods. My current HP laptop can barely handle the games I play now and certainly can't handle modding. I am currently working on a CoH mod, a NWN2 mod, an Oblivion mod, and building a game using the Gamestudio engine. I also use Photoshop and 3Ds Max a lot as well and along with other graphic programs. Very soon I'll be trying out the Unreal engine as well. I don't play hardcore games yet, but I will.

I'm about 90% sure I want the NP5797, but the 10% in doubts is strong enough to make me consider the beast that is the NP9280.

My main concern is longevity and upgrading capabilities. I'm sick of buying budget laptops and having to replace them 1yr or 2yrs later because lack of upgradable options. I don't want to buy another or upgrade this laptop for at least 4 or 5 yrs. If the CPU, GPU, Memory, and HDD are all upgradable, then I guess I won't ever have to buy another laptop again, just keep upgrading. My budget isn't super important because I'm using a credit card, but I would like to stay in the $2500 range; a lil more or less doesn't matter to me as long as it's worth it. I am looking to buy sometime in June/July.

This laptop is primarily a backup to my desktop. It will mostly be used for school and my wknd drills. I don't need the best laptop out there, but I do need a laptop that can handle games and software like my desktop.

Here are the configs I'm considering:

$2928I spoke with customer service and he suggested the NP5797, however I cannot decide on the processor. I'm debating between the T9800 or the X9100. Or is quad core better? Again customer service suggested a dual core and a lower model cpu than the ones I'm considering too.

I'm not entirely sure how much power I need to ensure performance and longevity. I value the sales rep's opinion, but I would appreciate feedback from other members.

Also, I notice that these sagers come with 64 bit installed...is there really a difference with 64 bit and 32 bit OS? Not real keen on the workings of 32 and 64 bit OSs'. I'm worried I'll have software/hardware issues or something running 32 bit on my desktop and 64 bit on my laptop. I only have money to buy a laptop for now...my desktop upgrades will have to wait. :(

I know this post is long, but thank you for reading and hopefully replying!!

Thanks!!
