The writeup for this at Gizmodo made me laugh so I thought I'd pass it along.

The mystery of the Alienware 'allpowerful' (http://gizmodo.com/5271970/alienware-teases-us-with-allpowerful-laptop-riddle) has been pierced a few days before E3—a brand new m17x stuffed with so much power it might just cause cancer: Dual 1GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 280M graphics cards and a Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core CPU for starters.

You can also stuff it with up to 8GB of DDR3-1333 RAM, 1TB HDD or 512GB SSD, Blu-ray and all important for gaming, an edge-to-edge 1920x1200 display. It has an Nvidia GeForce 9400M integrated GPU, so you can boost your battery life from 15 seconds to 26.3 seconds when you need to go that extra mile. And ports, ports, ports—the thing is so beastly the USB ports are arranged vertically: 4 USB, eSATA/USB combo, DisplayPort (go Dell) and HDMI.

And yes, it's completely blinged out—lights pour out of it like it just landed on earth after a long trip from a planet populated entirely by a evolved race of disco lights. It's heavy, too—almost 12 pounds—but despite being thicker than a 18-wheeler it's easily the best-looking machine Alienware has put out (at least once you turn off the lights). It starts at $1800, but don't expect to stay that way once you start tricking it out with heavy-duty firepower. [Alienware (http://www.alienware.com/)]

So yeah, let me take out a second mortgage to pay for it, and buy a 2-wheeler to move it around and some sunglasses to tone down the disco ball lighting, oh and an industrial A/C unit to cool down my livingroom from all the heat it puts out. :D

it's still an Alienware. It will have a few extra bells and whistles......as well as be hundreds of dollars more expensive. then it will break and they wont help you. Yep, sounds like the self-described best laptop maker to me. i'll take Xotic every time and twice on days ending in Y.

if the NP9280 had the lit keyboard, a cool looking case, and the facial recog security software like the Alienware it would probably be the sexiest laptop in the world. and it would most likely be WAY more stable.

Still paying a ton for a label... glad to see AW hasn't changed any. Makes me stay more by Sager's side.

sager could own the market with a few little updates.

I read it again just now when I got home from work and had another good laugh.

Alienware, er I mean Suckware has lots of flash.......the flash when your screen dies, the cpu overheats and burns out and the memory catches fire. :D

I'd never buy one.

I too would love to see a backlit keyboard as a normal feature/option on every laptop out there.

I just love the writeup on it.

so you can boost your battery life from 15 seconds to 26.3 seconds when you need to go that extra mile

Love it! ;)

first, spelling is your friend. it's very hard to be taken seriously when you can't be understood (kind of like the customer service people at Alienware). If you like them then buy one. I'm sure the guys at Xotic will make you a working machine after you are so fed up that you drop Alienware.

My little Force I got from Xotic last year still trumps anything Alienware sells because at least it is not being held together with duct-tape and chewing gum after 6 months and only working part of the time.:)
In my opinion anything one can get from XoticPC will trump anything from Alienware because for starters, it's been well tested before going out the door or even considred for selling:XPCS::notworthy

to me the issue isn't really hardware. For the most part it's all proven tech. CPUs are CPUs. The problem can be traced to the fact that they are known for hardware that isn't of the quality IE lower quality motherboards than those of other companies. Plus heat is a problem, and we all know what heat can do. Alienware used to build unbelievable cutting edge systems, but they were getting their components from high quality producers (Clevo). Now thay are just following behind in the pack. They have changed their build philosophy and quality isn't as important as it was. The other issue is that they play with the software. i know they have the best intentions but it isn't always executed well. You might get lucky and never have a problem but part of buying from a good company is knowing you wont have a problem. at one time the extra cost was more than worth it....not anymore... not for a system that is little better than one bought off the shelf at Best Buy.

I can't knock them too badly though.

I have an M1330 here that they repaired out of warranty at their expense, the very day after I called in about it.

The tech got here when they said he would and within an hour it was all fixed.

I've got one of their business model Vostro A90's coming in next week to mess with. It's basically a Mini 9 with an all black case. Should be fun to install OSX on. :D

I was actually trying to figure out if it was built on clevo/sager, asus, flextronics ect.

It looks like I will be returning my M17 for a refund and I am not looking for a different one. I dont see anyone else supporting the 280m sli other than the new m17x. I dont want to buy from AW again.

where did you find out about this M17x with SLI GTX280s? It's not on their site. i need to have this info so i can slam them intelligently. i would bet that it wont be out for a while though.

It's going to be announced at E3, so there isn't a spot yet on the Alienware site.

which means it's a prototype and probably wont go into full production for at least 6 months. Don't worry though, if they are making one so will sager. and it will be based on a Clevo MB. You might even get to have an I7 in it. i bet it will run hot though.

Current information says they'll be shipping Q4 this year.

Clevo has a similar model coming at the same time rumor says.

Estmated pricing at the moment starts around $2500-2800 for a maching with a 260M, and goes up quick if you opt for the higher end stuff (aka the dual 280's).

Granted, a lot of it is speculation at the moment, but we know for sure Alienware will show their machine at E3, so the others can't be far behind (and could even be ahead for all we know).

As I stated previously, Clevo has the 18" coming very soon with all the same specs as the "all Powerful" with an extra hard drive to boot. the Clevo M980NU (which will be rebranded as the Sager NP9250) Is tenitively scheduled for a July 1st release date. and was shown in all its glory back at CES2009. Now this beast is what I'm looking forward to! :) google it. It's coming :p

History taught me that P4's destroyed two clevo-based laptops, the sager 9260 and the alienware variant.

With great power, comes great responsibility for us guys to not use this thing on our laps.
