sager NP2096 Power source usb ports problem

When i first read about the power source usb ports, i thought it was an ingenious idea. However i cant seem to work it.

I turned off my laptop and pressed the button but my iphone is not charging. Can someone tell me how to use it? it DOES say that it works when you turn off the laptop.

When you press Power USB button under off mode, you can charge external USB devices with power cable connected.

Do you have the power cord plugged into the notebook while you're trying to charge your iphone?
