Hey guys, my second edition is now out. I wrote the other one about a year and a half ago, I figure I might as well do another one. Johnathan, I didn't know if I needed to make an amendment to the first post, if I need to, lemme know, and Ill merge the two.
These Apps arnt in any special order, but these are some really really good apps everyone should have.
1. Pidgin (http://filehippo.com/download_pidgin/)
This is a life saver for anyone who does a lot of things on the computer. This is a chat client, but it is all chat clients built into one. Pidgin allows you to be logged into AIM and MSN or your other favorite chat clients, and you are able to chat on them, without having two programs up, two lists of users, two seperate windows for everything. Pidgin is pretty much the firefox of chat clients, there are a lot of different types of addons, plugins, and settings that can make the program exactly what you need. You have to see it inorder to realize the thousands of your applications
2. Filehippo Update Checker (http://filehippo.com/updatechecker/)
Have you ever found yourself finding all your apps are out of date, and never knowing where or how to update them? Or even sometimes not knowing if your app is out of date. Well this program does a quick check of nearly all your programs, and finds out if there is a more updated one available. If there is, you will be given a link in your internet browser where to download it, if you so choose. Makes keeping your computer up to date really easy
3. Internet Download Manager (http://filehippo.com/updatechecker/)
This program will make your downloads more organized, more efficient, and A LOT faster. My downloads jumped from maybe 100-300 kb/s to 700-2500 kb/s, no joke. I have a rapidshare account, and you get 700 kb/s, and you can get that speed on multiple files! And the faster your internet speed, the faster it goes. This is known as a download accelerator, because it speeds up your downloads. It also will automatically organize everything you download, sorting the music, video, compressed, documents, and programs, which is really nice too. It adds itself into the IE and Firefox shell, to make downloading even easier there, making it so any videos you watch, any music you listen to, can be downloaded at the click of a button. Now IDM is really good, but also, there are several free types of this program, such as flashget, and downthemall, which may be a better option, because they are free
4. Ipod Access (http://www.findleydesigns.com/ipodaccess/indexWin.html)
How many of you have ipods? I can guarentee its like 90%. Anyway, this app makes it so files on your ipod can be easily transfered off your ipod, onto your computer. So lets say you have a movie on your ipod, that you want to put on your computer, whether its for yourself, or to put on another ipod. The great part about this thing too is you can do a full backup of your ipod, so that if you get a new ipod, or something happens, you have a copy of all your data.
5. Winrar (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm)
If you don't have this program, get it now, for the love of god! Rar files are the new zip files. They take about half the time to compress, and they can be split up into parts. Most people now when they upload files, upload them in the form of Rar files. If you use zip files for anything, you should get this program, and start Raring!
6. IMG Burn (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm)
IMG Burn is an application that makes all your discs, wether they are dvds, cds, or applications, so much easier to use. With this program, you can take a CD/DVD and turn it into whats known as an ISO file. There is a lot you can do with these files, and they are an exact 'image' of your disc. These files can be used by IMG Burn to burn more discs, which will be exact copies of the first. I have made backup copies of several discs using this app, such as my moms disc broke, i used this app, and burned her a new one! Also with the ISOs you make, you can use them with a virtual cd drive, which i will explain with the next app.
7. Daemon Tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/downloads)
This app creates a virtual cd drive on your computer. What I mean by that is, when you go under my computer, you will have an extra cd/dvd drive. Why is this important? Well this is where the ISOs come into play. With daemon tools, you can open these ISOs on the virtual drives, so it is EXACTLY as though you have a disc in the drive. For example, if you have either downloaded an iso or made your own, you are now able to load it with daemon tools, just as though you had the solid disc. I use this ALL the time, because lets be honest, finding your discs sucks, so i just use ISO files. Its really a great program.
8. Bitpim (http://www.bitpim.org/)
This is a app built specifically for your phone. Which type of phone? ALL OF THEM!!! You can manage your pictures, videos, sounds, ringtones, games, and everything else on your phone. You just plug in your phone into your computer, fire up the app, and it should auto detect it. If it doesn't, well don't fret, just google your phone and bitpim, and i can almost guarentee it will be there (except iphones). Getting ringtones costs what, $1? Now you can make your own on your computer, and copy them to your phone! Try it out
9. War Rock (http://www.gamersfirst.com/warrock/)
This isnt really an app, this is a game. This is a free, online, multiplayer, first person shooter that is really really fun. Its a combination of counter strike and battlefield, and its really fun. There are weapons, gernades, vehicles, turrets, everything you'd expect in a game. The weapons are also upgradeable too, and you can level/rank up higher and higher in the game. There is ingame currency that allows you to get the upgrades you need, and you earn them through gameplay. If you want, you can pay some money, and get some more in game points, or you can earn them on your own. Its a really fun game, Id suggest it to anyone.
10. Firefox Preloader (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffpreloader/)
Firefox is a great app as we all know. But now, with this app, it loads firefox into your memory when your computer boots up. It makes it so firefox boots up a lot faster, plain and simple.
Another 1.5 hours, hope it helps
