Hi,
I just got received my new Sager 8662 and while it seems to be working fine it keeps making these mechanical clicking sounds. It seems to happen whenever the computer is thinking. Is this normal or is this some kind of hardware problem?
Thanks

Ouch it sounds like a defective HDD. Back up any data you have on it NOW and get the HDD repaired [as in replaced].

Your computer thinks? Very cool!
Just kidding. I agree though with the others but with a couple things to add. There are only three things in your computer that are mechanical and will make noise....the hard drive, the optical drive, and the fan(s).
Since a cooling fan may speed up when the computer is under load it could make a noise under heavier computational loads and be quiet when it runs slower. The only reason it might make a clicking noise is if it's faulty or damaged.
The optical drive is easy to isolate because it won't make any noise if there's no disk in there. On the other hand it's pretty normal for the optical drive to make clicking noises when accessing data on a CD or DVD.
If it's neither of those things then it's definitely the hard drive and you should follow the above advice and back up your data. Since the machine is new it should be covered so you should contact the vendor and discuss your options.
