I just received my NP9280 and I found that I have a dead pixel. I've purchased over 10 laptops over the years and have never had a dead pixel within the first 3 years. I spend almost $3500 and the first time I turn it on I have a bright red pixel glowing in my face! I'm so mad. I've emailed Xotic support to see what they can do for me...has anyone been able to fix this?

Have you tried either the physical manipulation (massaging it) or there are applications that try and unstick stuck pixels. Showing red has a little more hope than a dead pixel. Good luck. If it is in what Sager defines as the center it is returnable. Also you have a satisfaction guarantee. That might result in some cost to you (shipping) if unacceptable with the pixel might be the best course of action.

And yes it is a shame having this problem.

Hi,

I have a blue hot pixel, but sager changes your display if it has a lot of them, the last days I found white spots, put a white/gray solid wallpaper and watch your display on diferents angles, it is another sager display problem. anyone knows, warranty covers that problem.

I've tried the massaging and a few programs that can possibly fix it. Nothing has worked. With the amount of money I paid for this laptop, I'd expect a better pixel warranty. Out of the many laptops I own from Dell and HP, I've never had any issues. I've decided to ask for my money back.

what does it consider the "center"?

Sorry your so upset and not giving Xotic a chance to see what can possibly be done by giving them a call. :(
Just so you know you won't get better performance, customer service or tech support with Dell/Alienware, HP or any big brand. Do what you feel you must though. Good luck in your next hunt.

The center is dividing the screen both vertically and horizontally into say 5th's. If the pixel falls in the center which with 5 would be the 3rd vertically and horizontally 1 pixel gets you warranty coverage. The example I just gave is just an example I do not know the actual division they use. I also believe if it exceeds a certain number of pixels (5?) location does not matter.

Once again I do not know the actual policy, I wish I did. Call Xotic this forum is very good but for such a serious specific issue a phone call will get you the fastest most complete response.

And once again I do hope it works out. I know Xotic does take customer care very seriously.

display massaging does not work , however, the stuck pixel sometimes disappear with those methods, but after few days appear again. My next notebook is gonna be Alienware, my brother has one, and he requested warranty for dead pixel without problems for how many pixels are dead.

I cannot argue with the performance...this notebook cannot be beat...I'm moving to Japan in two weeks and I don't knwo if they can RMA this fast enough. I've asked to see if it can be done. I saved for a long time for a monster laptop and when I saw the 9280, I couldn't resist. I hope they can fix this whole issue. I want to give them a chance to make it right.

2 HP's - 5 dead/stuck pixels. 1 Sager - 0 dead pixels. My guess is it's the luck of the draw in the end really, I wouldn't discount any company based on a pixel though.

I know, I guess I just have been so excited to get this new machine that I over reacted. I've asked them to contact me.

while I'm at it, does anyone have a copy of the NP9280 bios they can point me to? I've asked Sager to send me a copy about two weeks ago and they never responded.

Well, to each his own I guess. Looking for "absolute perfect" in the computer world will always lead to disappointment.
If you don't want tech support or decent warranty and like flimsy builds then Alienware/Dell is the way to go. You can request warranty from Alienware/Dell all you like, but the question is honoring it. XoticPC is sort of like your omnibudsman if needed and will get the warranties honored. With Alienware/Dell once they make the sale, your on your own. The hoops you will have to jump through to get warranty service with them are too many to deal with.

I don't want to stir up any trouble. I am new here. I have been looking fora higher power laptop for some time, Xotic is on the list. I have owned/purchased/used Dell (mostly pc's, but 2 laptops) for 10 years. For me, their customer service is great. Sometimes I spend extra time on the phone, but they always have taken care of me. Actually, several times have gone above and beyond.

How great is Xotic for support and warranty? I don't need much for tech support, but a good warranty to me is a must. Dell, for me, will replace anything, anytime, no matter what. No questions asked.

I'm speaking from my experience with Dell concerning desktops. Perhaps they deal with laptops differently. XoticPC has excellent tech support and warranties. Their best is through XoticPC themselves, the rest are manufacture warranties. However, XoticPC will still help you with the manufacture warranties should you have any trouble.
You have to look at the warranty: Is it a "limited" warranty or "Full" warranty?
It's great that you have had good experiences with Dell customer service, but it must be asked was that during purchase or for after purchase issues? Also does that experience include tech support?
You also have to consider this: How many times have you had issues where you had to contact them, very little, a lot? If it's alot, that says something about the build quality. The thing to understand is that Dell/Alienware sells "cheap for max profit". That means inferior parts and builds. There is the luck of the draw to consider, but personally I would rather know exactly what I am getting then just something from mass stock that was built for pure over-priced profit over customer needs.
Once you compare even the feel of a product from a place like XoticPC to a Dell/Alienware or off the shelf BestBuy special from HP or something you would know then what I am talking about. For example, does it take one finger to open the lid or both hands (one on the base and one on the lid)? It should take both hands. That is merely the first indicator of a quality build. Alienware/Dell are like car dealers in a way. They sell pretty at inflated prices over quality at competitive prices in said market sector.
There's noth wrong with getting a Dell laptop if all you want is standard power and something to just get you through basic computer tasks for a couple of years. You can probably get into one for a fair price if you don't buy their inflated warranties and other stuff they push on you. You also have to consider upgrades. With the Dell/Alienware warranties if you upgrade the memory or replace the HDD yourself you will void the warranty. Not so with XoticPC. With Xotic you are allowed to do those things without voiding the warranty. A number of laptops Xotic has are meant to be upgraded within specs by the user if he or she wishes. The there is the obvious, if your looking for a powerful laptop to do gaming or other intensive tasks you won't find one at Dell and Alienware which is now part of Dell is overpriced and questionable.
Of course ultimately it's up to the individual. XoticPc is not out to sell laptops just to get money and that's that. Xotic's whole mission is to make sure the person gets what they need and nothing they don't need or want and to make sure the person is happy with their purchase.
You could boil it down to this:
Dell/Alienware sells quantity
Xotic sells quality

It's not to say that everyone must buy from XoticPC and all that. It's just that Xotic offers a level of quality and service that is second to none and on the table for the customer to freely use or not.
Me and most others here do not work for Xotic and have no vested self-interest. We are just customers who feel that Xotic gave us the best laptop purchase experience anywhere and that they are an honest company who did not try to oversell us or anything. In fact, they use a zero pressure approach. That's partly why we hang around trying to assist others. You won't find that at Dell!!
