Hmm, Ok, here I go:
I just purchased Mirror's Edge (An awesome game IMO) a few days ago, and installed it. I'm having a few issues, and I'm pretty sure they're not because of the game engine. They are:
1) While playing with Physx enabled, the FPS counter drops to 3-5 during shootouts and continues to lag thereafter for quite a while....And I thought that a GPU with 1 GB VRAM and model above a Geforce 8 series should be able to handle physx effects pretty easily..Is this common an expected? Or is there something wrong? Because on some otheer forum I noticed a guy saying something about "disabling something in windows 7" to fix the exact same problem I'm having...Can anyone respond to the claim and tell me what to do? (Or is it utter falsity?)
2) The game's is also generally kinda slow. DEFINITELY NOT COMPLAINING, I get some awesome graphics and can play with everything maxed out (except Physx, of course, 1680x1050, 16xqAA Highest detail) and get around 25-30 FPS. I guess I was kinda expecting more cause those are the FPS I'm getting from running CRYSIS at highest(Very High), 1680x1050, AA disabled, Edge AA enabled (I get around 20-25 FPS, still very playable)..So am I missing something? Or is this natural? I know, I'm very nitpicky and ask for too much..just thought I'd ask..
Because I'm an nvidia fan, and someone on the forum (same mentioned above) was talking about running the same settings(or so he claimed) and getting around 50-70 FPS with an ATI 4870....I thought it was utter crap, but can anyone confirm?

Regards.

PS: Sorry if I might have posted in the wrong section, To me this was a Technical Issue that may or may not need resolving.

Turn AA down or off see if that helps 16x is very high.

Thanks for the reply! but the thing is, I have tried turning off AA altogether, and in most areas it runs at 50 fps, but again, when glass shatters or cloth rips with Physx enabled, framerates drop to single digits again..SO I dont it's a GPU performance issue..It's more as if even with physx enabled, my CPU is processing physx(If my understanding is correct)..So I'm still stumped.

I wouldn't think your notebook should have any problem running that game. I would close some unnecessary background processes that may be taking away from your gaming experience. You can do this through task manager or download a program called "Game Booster" which will close all unnecessary processes for you automatically. Asking a notebook to play every game on max settings probably isn't gonna happen. Most I can get fairly close, also depends what resolution you are running, 1920x1200 with everything maxed out on a fps is asking a lot IMO. Also make sure your graphics card driver is up to date.

Thanks for thee reply! Yeah, you're right, I'm probably asking too much..But what leads me to my conclusion is the LARGE FPS drop in Physx related places..I'm talking about FPS dropping to 1/10ths of it's original count....Like from 30-40 to 4-5 fps during shattering of glass with physx enabled. I have tried reducing the settings, but this slowdown is always present...So i came to the conclusion that my Physx processor integrated in my GPU was perhaps not doing it's job...because this is huge drop...Also, I'm running it at 1680x1050, pretty high...but I'm sure that this isn't the problem.

I see your point and agree with your logic. At this point I do not have an obvious answer. I will keep my eyes open and if I read of such will post back.

For a simple test lower the resolution and see how that impacts. I know the physX is cool but I do know many do not use because of reduced performance (fps). Not like you say but reduced.

Thanks for the advice, I tried reducing my resolution and shutting down AA almost completely..But still, surprisingly, the first time, before, I dropped the resolution, The FPS drop was from 30-3, now it's from 50-3....I don't get it, but i've heard installing prior-released drivers 181.22 fixes the problem..Well, I'll kep the thread updated on how it goes.
