Just curious what games people are playing- mainly online or multiplayer games. It would be cool to play with some other Xotic PC'ers, who must also be as avid gamers as I am  . If your interested, please post your games and contact program nicks. If you aren't interested in forming a gaming community, then just post your games. Thanks :D .

Currently playing Shadowbane. It is a free to play MMORPG with the best PvP in any online MMORPG I have played.
Also, I'm anxiously awaiting the release of Age of Conan.
That is all... ;)

Well they won't take full advantage of these beasts, my favorite online game is still Diablo II, a instance based mprpg. I have recently started playing Ikariam which is a blast if you like REALLY LONG RTS(on the scale of months/years), plus its free :D

 I was expecting some more intense games to show upon here.... The games you mentioned are classics, but I myself am more into playing the best looking games on the market; that's partly why I wanted this laptop to begin with. My oldest game, that I currently still play, was made in 2004 (Only because its the best RTS game I have ever played). The rest have been released in the last year or so. Thanks for your posts! Keep them coming :D .
P.S.-Also awaiting Age of Conan myself 8) .

On the PC, I'm only playing Guild Wars right now with any semblance of regularity. But I'm planning on getting Crysis as soon as I get my lappy. And a bunch of console games, that nobody is gonna be interested in, such as DDR (PS2), GH3 (PS3), Halo 2 (XBox), Okami (PS2). That's pretty much it.

Guild Wars is an MMORPG that I do have  . I haven't played it for a while now.... sorta waiting on GW2 to come out. That games going to be awesome (Free to Play and all). I may be sharing a Dungeons and Dragons Online account with my little brother pretty soon. It's a pretty cool game if you haven't played it before and I think their monthly fee is down to ten dollars a month if you sign up by April :D . I would recommend any of you to check it out if you haven't already (The game can be bought for about 6 dollars including shipping on Amazon.com and that gives you a month free by itself).

Aren't all games kind of cartoonish like? Has anyone had a chance to try out The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar? Was thinking about playing that as my off game when i'm not playing WoW if it's good.

My younger cousin plays LOTRO and he likes it. I played the beta, but I myself wasn't as interested, considering I already know the story so it wasn't anything new. The game was produced by the same people who made DDO (which I loved), and the integrated voice chat and graphics are big pluses. WoW does have the most "cartoony" graphics for a recent MMO (probably a developer idea) and there are other games with much more "realistic graphics". I think theres a trial for most MMOs so I would look around.

I play World of Warcraft, TF2, and have gone back and replayed HL2 / ep1 /ep2.
However I'm also finding this machine to far surpass my developer workstation so I easily fire off 2-3 copies of Eclipse 3.3 and hack to my heart's content.

Well once we get the beast, NP9262, I will be making up for almost eight years of not playing games. Yes, I know, but I had a choice: keep the house and white picket fence and die in my customized command chair or get off my lazy behind and go out and get a life. Sigh! I am still here, so I guess it worked. :)
I use to be in the top ten for years in Unreal Assault. Did OK in Counter Strike also. Still use the same 'handle' here in these forums as I did then. Anyway, being in Mexico and trying to connect to servers in USA is kind of iffy at best, especially in the afternoon or evening when school is out. Would be nice to try and hook up at some point, but I have a lot of single player games to get through. Such as: FEAR all of them (update update), The Orange Box, and Quake 4. Then I will think about getting Crysis; by then it should come down in price with a few updates and maybe a new episode. Would like to try the game Mass Effect as it looked pretty cool and is coming out soon enough.
End of story.

I just bought Battlefield 2142 and spent most of my time this weekend playing that. I used to play a lot of CS: Source before WoW and i definitely think BF: 2142 is much better than CS.
I'm really bummed that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/starwars2007/index.html) won't be out for PC. I played Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy & Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast which were both really fun fighting with a lightsaber.

Just installed the Orange Box. While installing the single player games and registering through Steam I noticed that the games came up in 64 bit enabled mode. Great news! I guess the steam anti game copying paid off for the gamers as well as the developers, first time that has paid off for me.
I did note that one has to go into each game, configure the settings and start a game to work in offline mode. I just turned off all the online stuff in steam so I can come up in offline mode and get the games to work.

I'm not an avid gamer by any measure, but when time permits I sometimes like to mess about with MoH or CoD. On those I pretend I'm attacking politicians and other things I don't like. :) Just serves to release some stress and it works sometimes. Of course, I also set to "god mode" because I'm a lousy player in that I get killed before the game even begins!
I also like Myst, Riven, Schizm because the graphics are neat and I like to ride the different vehicles and work the different devices and the soundtrack is kind of cool too.
I also like golf. (Certainly can't afford the real thing).
I'm not sure the Lappy I am getting can handle on-line gaming. It's a Force 3298 V2 with a T8100 Peneryn CPU, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 8600GT w/ 512mb and a 320GB 5400 rpm HD. I have a desktop I can use for that. I do have a wired connection cable internet. I suppose it may be able to since it is considered a mid-range gaming/desktop replacement laptop.
I've tried on-line gaming in the past and it is neat because you meet folks and it can be fun, but I'm such a terrible player, basically nothing more than cannon fodder and can never seem to find a section for clueless, newbie, uncoordinated blokes like myself. :)
I used to play the Wing Commander series, but those don't run anymore on newer PCs. I really miss the Wing Commander games.

Yes that is right, I got caught up in 'play it until you drop mode' and finished. Already went thought it twice. Now I am looking for more. Just ordered Crysis and F.E.A.R. (the one with all of the fear games in it.) I guess I will have something to play as I have purchased C.O.H. online from Steam (both games.) I always play in offline mode so it works anywhere I go. About Steam: I did run into an update that ended up disabling the AI in HL2. It was a 64 bit problem and had to run it in 32 bit mode. Drag on, some update Valve, good going......
I have been looking at what others play and they have some good choices. I may get some of the mentioned games (installed here in the USA first) to take back to Mexico and play when we go back down there after summer. I noticed that the Mass Effect was even on a tighter online registration/download/server/security system than Steam, so I gave it a pass (for now.) I am making up for the last five years of non-gaming in a big hurry.
Charge on NP9262, still very low temps even gaming. Nothing over the low to mid 50's during game play, excluding the HD's that are remaining under 50, so far. I imagine that Crysis will really stress the old GPU so I will monitor those temps.
I loved the early (DOS based, extended memory management and all that BS) Wing Commander Series myself. There were issues with the later games and windblows 98. Just shows how far the inter program interface & stability and GPU's have come since then.

Quick wasn't it....... Only about 60 days for All of; the half life 2 series, the F.E.A.R series and Crysis. I've actually played all the games at least two times. Crysis much more than that.
My favorite game so far is Crysis. It is like being in a movie. Made the rest of the games look dated in the graphics department. Sure the Paradise Lost started out looking like a slide show, until I lowered the resolution. But what the heck, it was all those snow flakes, falling rocks and other effects that gave the problems. That and the fact that the developers did not have to time to optimize some sections. Nevertheless it is a fantastic audio visual experience that completely blew me away. Now I know what all the talk was about. Can't wait for the next Crysis game to come out.

Eh, I'm just not as impressed lately with some games. I miss the games with the epic story lines (hence why I love FF games - except online...ew) and the long hours. Most games you can beat in 6-12 hours. Pathetic. What happened to games like the 2nd Star Ocean where you were fifty hours in and barely halfway through?? People just want too much instant gratification.

I am just getting back into gaming. I have been playing torchlight, finished it a few times already, one of the few games that runs on this POS laptop.
CIV 4, Dragon Age wil be the first games on the new laptop.
diablo III would be nice, I haven't played since the first one, and Civ 5 whenever that comes out.
I like the age of empire series, too. seems like its been forever that AoE 1 came out.
I am not much of a shooter type gamer, use to be(like when wolfenstien 3d first came out in 92-93), but was never that good( i sucked something awful)

Diablo II was a lot of fun. Especially after I beat it a couple of times and then edited my character's stats and ran through it with an unstoppable merchant of death.

I'm just not impressed anymore I guess. There's a few out there that do, don't get me wrong, but for the most part they always seem...lacking. I do want to try to the new Prince of Persia thats coming out just because I've played them all. I've already beaten ME 1 and 2, DAO (not really into the expansion, I hear it's the same ole song and dance with nothing new)...I dont' do shooters. Never have really. I"ll borrow them from a friend, but will never buy them because they're too damn short.

it also seems lately more games are ported from consoles to PC, not the other way around, meaning less games just unique to the PC. PC's for now will still trump consoles in sheer power and graphics, due to be customizable and upgradeable, but i think in the game department, consoles passed PC's, I think.

this looks interesting. march 30th release. loved the tv show. but in my experience games based off movies, etc. sometimes don't do well. and others do rather well. its a crapshoot. but it looks like the writers from the show did most of the story for this game.

errrrr, stupid question to follow.....How fast does your internet connection must be to play online games? MW2 or Crysis? I have Verizon wireless card and get good signal (broadband) just about every where I go. I stream movies and watch videos online without any hiccups so far. Usually I get speeds of around 100-300 kbps...

That's not a stupid question but it is a hard one to answer. It really depends on what kind of responsiveness you're seeing. If the game is lagging, stuttering, freezing, etc, then you probably want to upgrade your connection. I have Verizon FiOS pumping at 35/35MB. That might be overkill for the home but it is a pretty good price for the service.

Well, I live in the part of the country where the BIG boys won't run highspeed cable or DSL. The only highspeed connection is through Verizon wireless AIR CARD. It does really well watching tv on hulu.com , but I was just wandering of there was a minimal speed that servers would impose b4 letting you online? Guess I will have to try and see, I just didn't want to sign up for some kinda service and not be able to use it:(

If there is a limitation, it should be published in the system requirements.

it's not really about speed. Its more about your latency, which has more to do with your route to the host and some other things, speed is only a minor issue there.
I can tell you I just switched to clear and it is an air card type service and I can game fine in WoW/MW2/ST:O. There are a few times that I have had some issues, but that was when the entire seattle market went down.

Yeah like Maverick said, overall speed (like up/down speeds in kbps or mbps) really isn't that much of an issue - just about anything above 56k can handle modern gaming. The real issue is latency between you and the server (or between you and other players in a P2P multiplayer game like Modern Warfare 2). The closer you are to the server (or other players) the better your performance will be.
If you stick to playing on servers nearby your location (the ones which show up as the lowest ping to you in the server browser) you should be fine with your connection. :)
We have a 5mbps down/3mbps up, although we typically get more like 10 mbps down and 1mbps up. :P

I used to be really into Everquest 2, but I quit last year. I had an uber raiding Assassin, and a semi-raiding Wizard, with a Warden for fun. Good ol' days.
Now, I play mostly "Dragon Age" and "Bad Company 2".

Saw a few reviews and they said this game is complete crap. Best to stay away from it.
I'm a big time gamer but mostly on consoles. When I finally get a G73 it will be the first time I've had a good computer that can handle good computer games. The computers I've had in the past normally couldn't even handle FPS on low settings. I'll probably still play most FPS on the consoles just because most of my friends play on there too but it will be nice to have the computer as an option for once.
I used to play a ton of WoW but stopped a few years back after getting burned out again from raiding. Still I'm a huge fan of Blizzard and can't wait until Starcraft II is released. Diablo III is another one I'm anticipating although I'm sure it is at least another year or two away. I know they are shooting for next year but they are too notorious for delaying games. Still I prefer the delays and them making sure it is high quality over just rushing it out and have it not be as good.
I bought the Witcher a little while back thinking my desktop could handle it but apparently mine sucked so bad that it would not allow me to play the game at all. It will be nice to play that finally.
Probably try out Crysis just to see what it was like.

As long as you don't have anything running in the background you should be set. I used to play online FPS with dial-up believe it or not... but I did ping 400+ to local servers lol. I would say that 100-300kbs (768-1.5mb connection I am guessing) speeds is pretty much the minimal for gaming smoothly. Unless you are living with a large group of people who also use your connection or you feel the need to instantly download an HD movie... I wouldn't worry too much ;). (if you ever get the chance to switch to a dedicated line, it might be a smart move, but I haven't had much experience with wireless ISP)

I used to play a tiny bit of FPS on-line, but I use cable which for me resulted only in getting killed quicker and even 2 seconds after spawning 35% of the time! That's why these days I wish I could play MoH, CoD, etc. on-line, but I don't have the skills required. I get killed at nearly the same rate playing off-line. (That's why it isn't long everytime I play before I rig it for "god mode" and just bang around making messes and watching the characters limp and whimper when I wound them instead of killing them. What's Ironic is sometimes I can imagine how they feel since there are days I limp around too). I also have been known to enter an on-line FPS battlefield and started feeling bad for those I was shooting at.
Question: Are there on-line FPS games where you can talk voice to voice while playing? I think that would be kind of cool.

Well if you use Team speak/ventrilo you could do it no matter the FPS. CoD4: Modern Warfare 2 has built in voice chat as well. I am sure there are others with built in voice chat these days.

Any source engine based game (Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead/2, Counter Strike, all source mods) have built-in VOIP. Most big name games do. Recently Bad Company 2 comes to mind with built in VOIP.

Voice seems like a fairly common feature these days, I would imagine most newer FPS have it.
Of course once you hear that first little kid/moron going on about stuff you could care less about you may not be as thrilled with voice features. I'm assuming there might be far fewer little kids though on PC games just because they tend to require decent comps that cost a lot more than consoles.

I just got Delta Force Extreme (I know I know - I'm way behind the times, but I'm not an avid gamer).
I can't seem to get into any of the vehicles using the default keyboard commands. I've even tried changing one and that didn't work. When I aapproach the vehicle a little box says "control" and I press the correct key combo and nothing happens.
Is there a trick to make this work?

I would say that on average there are less kids, but the ones that are here are SUPER annoying. They're usually obnoxious /b/tard wannabes who know a couple internet memes and think they are hilarious. Considerably more obnoxious than your typical prepubescent Xbox Live kiddy.
