Hello,

I have a Sager 5793 notebook currently running XP Pro. I bought a copy of 7 Pro and want to install it, but I ran the upgrade advisor from Microsoft and basically the only thing not compatible is the video card, an 8800M GTX. The advisor program says it's not compatible, but I'm running the latest drivers from Nvidia (186.81). The Windows 7 drivers listed for the video card at Nvidia's site are the same as the one I have.

I'm just hoping that once I upgrade, the video card will function if I install the Windows 7 drivers. But it's just weird that that's basically the only thing that's not compatible. Does anyone else have this problem?

Also, with 7 64-bit I can finally upgrade my memory. Is the max for this laptop (5793) 4 gb of memory? Also, should I and could I install Intel Robson Turbo memory?

Here are my stats, just in case they're relevant:

Good evening and thank you for your post.

That is quite odd that it says that it isnt compatible. Your computer is most certainly 100% compatible. The easiest way to upgrade to windows 7 is to make sure you have an ethernet cable connected to the computer while you upgrade the software. It will auto find all of the drivers that are needed. You may just want to make sure it uses the most current Nvidia driver. That would be the only thing that should be needed to be changed.

Thanks,

Joseph L

I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my 5793 and after working perfectly for a week all my USB ports are not working. There is absolutely no response if I plug in my mouse, iPod or camera.

I thought maybe updating the bios would help but I can't find a Bios update for Windows 7 for the 5793 on the Sager website (they only have XP and Vista).

Does anyone know how I can get my USB ports back?

So far I have tried uninstalling the USB drivers and letting Windows 7 reinstall them.

Also I did a system restore back to the time when the USB ports were working but to no avail.

Is there anyway to use the Vista drivers for the USB ports? I know you can do that with some devices but I do not get the option when right clicking on the intel usb controllers.

The thought of having to reinstall Windows every week makes me want to gouge my eyes out.

I installed Windows 7 64-bit on my 5793 and have not been having a good time of it.

After running smoothly for a week all my USB ports went out. I have tried every
suggestion including having Win 7 reinstall the USB ports but to no avail.

It will also not see my Soundblaster XFI card.

The Intel Robson memory also does not work.

Right now I can't use a mouse nor connect my camera or Ipod.

Sager does not offer any Bios updates for windows 7 apparently.

And to add insult to injury Xotic seems to have deleted my post from this
forum.

Not cool guys.

It looks like you're only made two posts on our forums so far, however, one of the posts was moderated so it wasn't appearing. I've since approved that post and you will see both of your posts listed above.

Very well. Thank you Justin. I am just a little frustrated with ye olde Windows install at the moment. Going to give tech support a call today and have put of tickets with both Sager and Clevo in the hopes of resolving this problem. Also I am on the road right now and don't have access to my Windows 7 disc (might have to have the wife mail it).

Also not looking forward to the possibility that I might have to go back to Vista.

Sigh.

Ed. Ugh - another thing that is happening is that the laptop boots up with a black screen - can't seem to get around this problem either. So it takes me about a half hour or more of continuous booting to have the screen randomly work. I am having my OS discs mailed to me so I can try a repair install of 7 but the 5793 does not seem ready for Windows 7. On a bright note - Vista might actually seem good at this point.

Hola,
I'm having the same issue and have a ticket submitted.

My 7:1 memory reader driver wasn't found when I did a clean install of windows 7.

Google was worthless so I'm hoping we can find some info. No sites have an 'updated driver' list for windows 7 and the 5793.

Make me sad! If I do find anything, I'll post on this thread.
