I currently have vista 64 bit on my sager np9280....has anyone encountered any serious issues while using win 7? how does it perform compared to windows vista? will the drivers on my drivers cd still work on Win 7?

My desktop was vista with two 7200s in raid. My 8690 (Win7) is an intel ssd. Not sure how much is the SSD and how much is Windows, but the performance gain was pretty impressive. I do have some issues going from desktop to WoW when I alt-tab. I'm not sure if it shuts off a processor or two or if that has something to do with windows 7.

I've never liked the vista windows menu which is forced on you. No more classic menu. I haven't really experienced any glaring issues with Windows 7 thus far however.

Windows 7 is much more simpler than the junk Vista.. It is far quicker, display is simpler yet cooler than Vista(With low opaque effects)
And the sys requirements are not as high as Vista(I think)..
Use it!! Use it!!

Installation was pretty quick and painless. I did a clean (custom) upgrade and it kept the windows, program files and docs in a "windows.old" dir... whiich I deleted almost immidiatly (70 GB and my only mistake was deletin a save file from a game... oh well...).

I can report a 10-25% immidiate increase in performence.
It used a lot less RAM and FPS in games is higher. Loading times are also significantly shorter. It takes some time to get used to the new taskber, though. Also, it contains some HQ wallpapers that look AWESOME on the 8690... it was enough to make my mom and my girlfriend go "wow" before even getting into the boring technical stuff :D

I've used Win 3.0, 95, ME, 2000, XP, and Vista. I must say that Win 7 rocks and dominates over all of the previous editions of Windows. It's faster, looks beautiful, and designed better with a few addons. I never had problems w/ win 64 except a few games not supporting 64 bit, so I never understood the dissing that everyone did to it, but 7 is faster and some minor changes. Check this website out. It was done on 7 RC, but you will get the feel for 7 prior to installing so you can see for yourself.

Thanks for the feedback...ill install it right away once i get my Sager back from repair...Is it better to do a clean install? or is it okay to do an upgrade install? im fine either way....Its just i have a driver on there that is difficult to install...(which requires me to disable driver signing and go through a multitude of side steps) so im not so sure i want to wipe it fully yet.

Upgrading is fine, but the Win7 will check for any programs(or drivers?) which is not compatible with it and if it's so u have to disable those things(I've experienced the same for my COMODO security suite and Spybot)..
So I did clean install, I prefer clean install though..

Regular upgrade is fine only if you're absolutly sure your vista had no problems. otherwise, a tiny problem can become a lot worse. Then you'll have to reinstall everything and backup everything by yourself.

I'd say that for one driver... i'd do a clean one. Maybe it'll install easier on W7 :P

Edit: It's not that I think that the taskbar is a bad thing. I know I can use an XP skin to make things more simple. It's just that I've been using XP for 5 years on every computer I used both home and work. Never used vista, except for those 2 weeks between laptop arrival and W7 upgrade arrival.
Getting used even to a slightly different UI is a bit tough. Maybe I'm just getting old :P

I agree with amdolev Doing a clean install is much easier and safer than doing an upgrade. I have had Windows 7 since 10-22-09 and I have not had any problems on my sager or experienced any problems with windows 7 so far. It performs much faster and is easier on your GPU, CPU ,and Ram.:smile2: It is much faster and It looks better and is easier to use than Vista maybe even XP.
