I bought my Sager 8662 with windows vista. I upgraded to windows 7. Should I download ALL windows 7 updates from xotic? My computer is working fine, if it ain't broke why fix it?

If by Xotic you mean Sager, then yes you should. The new drivers are important and although you may not notice immediately, you may have some problems later down the road or with new software. Yeah, it might be a pain, but it would be better just to keep your rig up to date with the proper drivers.

I attempted to download and install the new chipset driver for windows 7 on my 8662. When I attempt to install the driver it says "This system does not meet the minimum requirements to install this software. Setup will now exit"

Huh? Wtf? Any help once again would be appreciated.

Looking at your CPU means the rig is quite new. Perhaps you already have the most current version already?

Besides, EvanD, I've already had some problems (spesifically with GPU drivers) when downloading the stock versions from Nvidia website. Downloading and updating everything from sager is the safeset and tested way.
If not, you can always blame them and not a 3rd party :P

EDIT:
I see now at their website that they have 2 chipset versions
The first is ver. 8.7.0.1007 - for Vista/XP and was released @ 06-Apr-09
The second is ver. 9.1.1.1020 - for W7 and was released @ 23-Oct-09
Maybe it's the wrong OS :P

I was downloading all the windows 7 updates because I recently upgraded to it.

That's odd. Sounds like either the file is corrupted or even worse the operating system installed a little off. The driver does work though I have the same exact rig you do and had success installing. Try re-downloading the file and see what happens I'd say.

Just tried doing that, didn't work

Did you have any difficulties when you switched to 7? And did you upgrade or clean install?

Did you try running windows update? It usually does a good job of getting the best drivers... Sometime OEM drivers are better then the brand specific...

Well even if that works, something seems wrong due to the fact that they are the base drivers for the OS and it's failing. I can verify that they do work.

UPDATE:

Unfortunately this was caused by upgrading from windows vista to windows 7. I contacted sager and the only way to fix the problem was to reinstall windows 7 on a freshly formatted HD. Bad news for anyone having the same problem. I did as told and now everything is fine. Thanks for all the input guys, Ice most of all.
