I just got my asus n61vn-a1 and i have to say, I'm a happy panda. Sadly though on this website (which is amazing btw, built and shipped in two days), there isn't much talk or a review for this great laptop which really seems to be going under. Here's some of the things i have to say:

For a gaming laptop, its actually quite light and portable. I was under the impression before i bought it that it was going to be a desktop replacement (which it is in specs) but really its easy to move around. Plus the case it comes with is actually of superior quality. I was expecting a cheapo case. Other things that the picture and specs don't say: THE KEYBOARD IS GREAT. Perfect size, perfect of amount of resistant to pressing, and the keys are spaced apart nicely. Seriously, its like gliding on water typing on this thing. The design is also quite nice to the eye, not overly flashy like an Alienware, but not ugly some other laptops, (a sager which model i do not remember at the moment). Also i really don't know what the laptop is made out of, but on the inside where your palms are placed is this material that kinda feels like teflon. It gives enough friction to keep your palms in place and feels great. The speakers aren't the greatest thing ever, but they do work well, and really, if your going to listen to music and are audiophile like me, you're going to have headphones :)

Now onto graphics performance which is the real meat of this system. The gt 240M preforms like a beast. I have never been on a computer this powerful before. Playing unreal tournament 3 black in full hd resolution on the highest settings and averaging 40 fps is a sight to behold. Crysis runs good too if you make adjustments, (all high, 1024x768 resolution, and MAKE SURE TO RUN IT IN DX9 NOT DX10. DX10 STEALS FPS AND DOESN'T LOOK THAT MUCH BETTER AT ALL) with 25 fps usually. Another thing before spending money on better systems. For the price to performance ratio, this is a great laptop. For a comparison for fps experience for people associated with console gaming. Most games on xbox360 and the ps3, they run at max 30 fps. The gpu in this laptop is actually much better than their outdated gpus. So 25 fps on crysis doesn't stutter or look bad at all. Its barely noticeable. Now this gpu isn't a gt 280x, but it definitely is a higher end gpu and definitely worth the money. Any game you want to play, theres a good chance it'll run nicely in the highest settings.

The cpu is also performs like a beast. Even though the 2 ghz clock is low nowadays compared to most dual cores, quad cores are going to be the future. Plus performance past 2 ghz isn't as noticable as say 1.6 to 2ghz. A quad core will future proof your laptop, especially when games start to take advantage of multi-threading. The 4 gb of ddr3 ram is quite nice too, and makes windows 7 64 bit run beautifully (which btw is a mobius strip better than vista).

All in all, if your thinking about getting this laptop, DO IT.

Nice write up. You have given much useful info. As an overall notebook many pluses you mention, build/feel.

I am happy you find the GPU so powerful. But that is relative to your experience. While it is nice it is a mid level card. But I do think your examples are useful. I think it says more about how many do not need the über GPU and über cost to have a very satisfying gaming experience.

Enjoy your new system, and thanks for the common sense input.

thank you for the thanks lol. Maybe I am a little too happy with my mid level gpu card, but i've been living in the computer dark ages *cough dell* with a 256 mb ddr2 radeon x1300 for three years now. I'm used to a little low fps here and there.

I forgot to use this an example of the cost comparison to popular computer companies like hp. I was going to get an hp elite book since i was getting it through my local college notebook program. Here's the specs : 15.4 inch screen (lower resolution i believe), 160gb hard drive, 2 gb of ram, a radeon 3650 mobility card, and windows vista. And it cost more than the laptop i got! So this computer is my first time actually getting a nice gaming computer, so to me, a mid level card is really nice.
