Asus A1 or A2?

I compared the order forms for the G73jh and the only difference I see is the CD/DVD Bluray option. Why do you need two different models if that is the only difference?

Why are there different lines at the DMV? I don't know. You are the second poster I have seen ask the same thing. I could give you complicated responses but really at the end of the day you are correct, why? Having said such why does it matter to us how they choose to do stupid naming conventions? I guess it should not and as such as long as you know what you are getting Asus might ask why do you care?

I do not mean any of this in a slight or small manner as I agree with you. I also am confused. But short of getting into great detail of things I do not know.

Consider Asus on the A1 offered to remove the BR and discount. There is a world wide supply issue with BR. I think the long and the short is while this has nothing to do with the shortage. Asus decided with so many orders for A1's without BR why not make an A2? I think that helps them internally with their supply chain and inventory. I am only guessing. But I know I am pretty much on the money.

Scenario is, do not disenfranchise the consumer who is looking at an A1 but offer what most are buying an A1 minus the BR equals the A2. Gets rid of one level of adjustment?

Most important I agree with you but Asus normally charges for modifications. They are an assembly line operation. I would not be surprised if they charged for downgrades. I think the only reason they give a discount on this is BR drives are in short supply.

Until you or I build a billion dollar manufacturing plant and sell product as good and cheap as Asus we should bite our lips? Well not really we should talk about as much as we like.:laugh:

Nope, not sure why someone would want an i5 on this laptop. It is already a good value for the hardware inside it. The money saved by downgrading to an i5 would be minimal.

The only difference I see is the BR as well. I've read on other forums that there are delays in getting BR drives so the A2 will be available before the A1.

I can't post the link b/c it keeps getting filtered out but if you do a Google News search for ASUS G73JH and find the link to the ASUS press release from 2/11/10, you will see that there are actually a lot more options coming to this model including i5 and i3 support.
