Hey guys, been trolling the forums for a week or so trying to talk myself out of the Sager NP8690 (due to the hit on the wallet) and I was curious to know the thoughts of the heat of the Asus G51JX-A1 since it has the GTS360M now versus the GTX260M. I understand that performance of the GTS360M is less than the GTX260 but I can live with that.... I was hoping that with the GPU using less power and lower clock speeds the heat issues may have improved..... You thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.

I am not sold that it performs less or produces less heat until I see results.

The 360 using lower clocks? I do not know the core clocks but the shader clocks are higher. The memory clocks are higher. The bandwidth is the memory speed and bus. Because the 360 is so much faster and GDDR5 it has a greater bandwidth than the 260m even though the 260m has a 256 bus vs 128 bus.

So with all that how does the 360m w/96 SP do vs 260m w/112 SP? I just do not know.

I just do not know I want Justin to do a review.

Oh and I want to make sure Asus did not UC.

Thanks for the remarks....That just adds to my confusion..... I forgot about the improvement from the memory of the GPU..... Cant find anybody with the hard numbers on it.... I hope a review or benchmark results are posted in the near future...

Sorry about adding to the confusion. I flipped a coin and it landed heads so lying was not an option.

That said I would not have a problem ordering the G51. You said you know it is not as powerful of a GPU as the GTX285m on the NP8690 but saves you money. The 360m and 260m are going to be so close as to be splitting hairs.

Well I pulled the trigger on the G51JX.... maybe I will get lucky with the RAM but not a big deal if I dont.... Gonna try to move from my desktop to this laptop for gaming.... logistics will not allow me to run a hardline from my router to my desktop and the wireless connection (distance) from my office to the router is killing me (long boring story but the router has to be in the living room) Hopefully I will be able to use the laptop closer the wireless connection and get back online in time for BFBC2.... Very excited about this new laptop and will be counting the days..... I appreciate all the information on the forums.... it helped me narrow down my decision.

I just got my G51JX Monday and have been playing Crysis on High Settings and 2x AA without any glitches or hiccups. So far I am extremely impressed with the GTS360m. Granted some of the specs are lower than the 260m, the GDDR5 definitely makes up for a lot. I think it performs a little better than the 260 but I would like someone to do a full review to actually see some real world results.

The only real difference I see on Nvidia's website comparing the two is the GTX260m has 112 processor cores as opposed to the GTS360m 96. It say's the GTX260m performance is 60x compared to the GTS360m's 40x. Doesn't show anything about the bus but I believe everyone already know's the difference.

daaith do 3dmark06 for all of us? The memory and bus are an equation and the 360m wins.
