I selected raid 0 and the IC thermal paste, but since I saw thats not gonna happen, I guess I have a stock system coming to me...

You'll have to check-in w/Xotic to see what the story is for sure BUT if your order is for an A1 and they only got A2's or vice versa, then that could be the explanation. Keep in mind that the others around you have "?" after their updates because they haven't posted an update. I'm only guessing on those orders.

It gets shipped sooner. I suspect they pull something like 10 orders at once... build and customize the ones that need it and send the ones that don't. Just because they don't show as phase 2 yet doesn't mean they aren't. Not to mention some people ordered a2 vs a1... not sure they are going to get a free a1 upgrade here.

From what I understand, they ship it stock and don't even open the box for testing (which they shouldn't have to since there's no customization)

I have been following the threads and seems like i got passed over by a few people since i ordered on 28th January (actually on the 25th but i had to correct my payment method) and people that ordered on the 29th and some in FEB have already gotten contacted? I have removed all extras and am looking at a stock machine so i cant imagine any reason why this is happening. Some kind of explanation would be appreciated.

Your order is still in the batch of customers to contact the first part of next week.

Hey Justin, glad things are starting to move along! Just out of curiosity, when do you think those of us who have ordered in March will start having their units arrive at Xotic? Do you think we'll be in the March 23/30th shipments? Or will we be pushed back till April?

That is correct, there maybe a couple day variance for some orders. We always allocate machines in order number format. Although some might have not shipped/contacted internally machines are allocated. :) Many of you will be contacted next week as we work through additional batches. :)

Especially if he got his shipped and my next chance to even get contacted is after the weekend. look at it this way, if you were at a store and the cashier started asking the guy 5 spots behind you what he would like completely ignoring you and other customers don't you think you would ask why?

Like I said UMI, this is their job. They aren't doing this for community service. They are getting paid. They are trained to handle this.

I do understand your point, and I agree that a lot of people are asking them similar questions, but why shouldn't they? A laptop is a big purchase. Not all of us make two grand purchases frequently, if ever. We have every right to be concerned and interested as to when ours will arrive. If you read my question, I said I was simply curious. I wasn't looking for some definite answer from Justin.

I think the last thing we need right now are self righteous forum members trying to police everyone else. I appreciate Justin and Joseph's hard work (as do we all), but half the reason I bought from this site is because of its reputed customer service. Why not utilize it? I like that you've compiled this list for us all, but please don't act like that is some end-all-be-all of questions. Everyone chill. This is a great thread. You shouldn't take the dates listed as law. UMI, I understand your frustration. I now understand why they don't give formal list information.

That being said. I would like to think that the time you have put in on updating this list has in turn saved Xotic more time than it has wasted. This worked fantastically, for the most part, in uping the spirits of all the club members. For myself, having a tangible advancement really made a difference.

Continue the list if you enjoy it or stop if you don't. Our time is soon and it's not worth the animosity. Most of the people on the forum would not put in the time you have in updating and reading through every sig and post for info. Everyone out there using this list had better +rep you.

Welp! I ordered 2/1 and it seems like my order shipped yesterday. I had to do a double take. I did get the upgraded thermal compound but from what I understood they weren't doing that anymore? I went straight from Phase 1 to Phase 4

1. the stock card and the Intel 'upgrade' are pretty indistinguishable unless you have a 300MB/150MB+ WiFi connection (I've never met anyone that has something that fast at home). Your wireless card is going to be able to handle whatever connection speed you have and can't make it go any faster. For instance, if you have Verizon FiOS 25/15, you can't actually download/upload any faster than that no matter what card you have in your machine.

2. No thermal compound upgrades unless you upgraded the CPU. That said, Braeyn and some others found info that points to the stock OEM compound being Arctic Thermal 5 which is no slouch.

I do not know the specs of the stock. Wireless "n" I do not think insures MIMO. Wireless "n" is that even a finalized standard yet?

Oh to make use of MIMO both the card and router must have. Also wireless "n" has greater range. Who is using wireless "n"? I think I am still stealing "g" from across the street and down the block. Working fine for me.

In other words for many the difference in cards will make no difference for several reasons.

I have had both brands and the actual usage was the same for me.

$35 for the Intel? Not a bad price but if it delayed not sure I would care. Not hard to upgrade on your own.

Both cards accept n so there's nochange there. I'm broadcasting n but only at 30MB u/d. You are right about MIMO. If you aren't broadcasting a MIMO signal from your router, then it doesn't matter whether your card accepts it or not.

Centrino Advanced-N 6200 is a 2x2 spatial streams wireless card, on the other hand WiFi Link 5100 is only capable of 1x2 spatial streams. So in terms of max connection speed, 6200 could have up to 300Mbps at both upstream and downstream, while 5100 could only have up to 150Mbps at upstream although it is capable of up to 300Mbps at downstream.

In practice, 6200 will be more beneficial for those who share data using wireless N network than 5100.

Looking for a little SSD advice.
I had planned on doing a 160gb x-25m install after I recieved my rig, just like many here on the forum. I went to new egg today to order it and the oem is now $489 It was closer to 400 just a couple weeks ago. So now I'm thinking maybe the 80gb but I worry about the space. I had planned on putting all my drive intesive apps on it. Autocad, CS4, Inventor, 3dMax, Win7 and a few others. On my current laptop this takes about 65gb so not much headroom. I was wondering if anyone can tell me or point me to info on what is the most beneficial way to set up SSD as far as what is on it. Hoping that this kinda of research will keep me from going insane while I wait.

This has been linked by myself and at least one other poster in these G73 threads. I find it to be the best overall not overly complicated resource for those who want/need to learn the basics of SSD's. I have linked here to the part that I remember and your post has me thinking of. Here is the link (http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3531&p=8). It is a multi page article would suggest you give it all at least a skim.

My link deals with the fundamental way flash memory functions. This is it cannot write to pages only it must write to blocks. Reading the link is simple I will count on you to read to possibly understand some of what I say but will try to say what I can.

If you can't write to a page only a block what does that matter? It does and does not. If a block is empty a page can be immediately written. But if that block has data in it everything must go in cache the block wiped and the block with is written with both the new and the old that is to be saved. This was responsible for some relatively piss poor write performance on current 1st gen consumer SSD's. This can happen in many scenarios but heavily filled/used was likely the main culprit.

Yes I know both hardware TRIM and OS TRIM are able to reduce the negative effect of this. I am greatly concerned that filling up an 80GB SSD with 65GB of data will greatly reduce the SSD's ability to keep empty blocks that pages can be written to. That would reduce write performance greatly.

I am not claiming to be an expert so if someone knows I am wrong feel free to correct me. I have not seen any well laid out tests with 90% full current SSD's using TRIM. They might be out there I just have not seen.

You can run 3 if the router allows it. If you read the fine print it says, "Up to 450 Mbps bandwidth based on the theoretical maximum bandwidth enabled by the 3x3 802.11n implementations with 3 spatial streams in combination with a 3 spatial stream Access Point." Basically, I think the router/routers have to allow it is what it sounds like.

Ya, I have gotten great customer service so far during my order and questions, but I do have to admit. I feel I got lied to some when talking to sales agents in the past, reassuring me I would hit the 1st shipment over several calls and now I'm basically told I'll have to wait till the end of the month is pretty annoying.

Its not really the waiting that bothers me, but I don't like being told something over and over then it suddenly change, I mean come on, you have known for weeks or longer how many units you were getting on the first shipment, and a few simple math equations later would tell you how many orders you can fill and then give a probability on canceled orders percentages etc.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not canceling my order, but I think XoticPC should take a better approach on this pre-order, do some math, give the customers better information.. something like "You will not make the first shipment if all existing orders are filled, however we usually have a 2% cancel rate which might leave you in the first shipment." This way I/we are informed and we have no illusions about the situation.

Ya, I guess I'm lucky??? I just think XoticPC should step up with a bit more solid information, customers feel more respected when we get real information and not generic statements.

There is a reason customers like us shop retailers such as this one, we are generally more informed about the products we are ordering and have a higher expectation from the company we choose to order from. Its what keeps up from making the mistake of going to a crap PC/Laptop retailer like Worst Buy (Best Buy), Dell, Apple, HP, Wal-Mart etc who aren't interested in customer satisfaction or quality products, just in selling the most they can.

I'm not trying to go into some sort of rant, or to bash XoticPC, just hoping some of their people read this and understand a bit better that their customers usually aren't some backhills bumpkin that frequent K-Mart for electronics, but rather, well informed consumers that are maximizing their bang for their buck.

This whole process has been a series of ups and downs, highs and lows. Unfortunately, while this is good information, it really puts me in a low point. After seeing a couple of Feb 1st orders going in to P2, I was sure that I was a day or two away. Now, knowing that there's AT LEAST 42 people ahead of me and that we're now looking at the end of March, I'm getting depressed again.

At this point, I just really want my machine. I don't care if it is an A1 or A2, I just want a damn computer. Whether it is ASUS' fault or not, the problem still exists. I've seen too many posts from people stating that they got it somewhere else within a couple of days to a week of ordering.

In defense of XoticPC, they offer customizations that most retailers do not, this can slow things down a lot, and I do think they was one of the first places to offer a pre-order for this laptop.

Not to diminish what has been said about information but I don't think we should forget that XoticPC does offer services that most do not.

I bet you submitted the order after hours on the 5th (Friday) which is why it didn't get picked up until Monday.

I just wonder which shipment mine will come in on, when I called before placing the order I was told they would be showing up around the 24th, but there was no mention of all those already being sold or not. Guess we'll see!

So I did a little experiment. I put in a pre-order with Amazon and I'm going to see who'll be first to send me the email saying it's ready to ship. I'm hoping it's Xotic, but we'll see...

when i talked to customer service about possibly swapping to the 8690 and found out that they were back ordered till the end of march! but they told me i would prob get that before the g73. kinda depressing! dont get me wrong i cant really blame them too much, mind you i did say too much. i guess i will see what happens. kinda sucks not hearing anything thus far this week. everyone seems to be in the dark for now. come on guys give us a counter telling us what numbers your working on....lol. ya know "now serving number 12" :laugh:

That's the one thing that's really bugging me. Just tell us how many you still have to fill to give us an idea of where we are in the que. They should easily have that number, but they choose to leave us in the dark.

hey where are you guys getting that theres another 50 people in between UMI and his G73? was it that order # post?

If so, keep in mind that those order #'s are more than likely not specific to JUST the G73's and that Xotic is continuing to sell products besides G73's :) So hopefully the 50 orders in front are for Sager's :)

I guess maybe I should pick out parts for a desktop and see where I can go for the same money! I had put together a wish list at Newegg just before ordering this Laptop!

It might not JUST include the G73's, but with the amount of pre-orders its more than likely that most of the ones in between will be G73 pre-orders. And the ones that aren't have more than likely already been worked up and shipped out since its in stock.

I merely stated that given the information this morning it was indicated to me that there was about 41 order numbers between the number they gave me and my order number, and if that number was very close to shipping they probably would have said something to that effect.

I'm happy with my choice in products, I knew there would be a lengthy wait, and I'm glad I chose XoticPC to fulfill my order, my ONLY complaint thus far is the lack of tangible information about how far out my order is from XoticPC and now conflicting information from their sales agents.

This. This is what makes me upset. As a consumer, I like to be informed about my purchase. I don't see how Asus, who knows what their next shipment size will be, can't tell each reseller how much they're getting so that they can accurately tell their customers when their order will be in. It just sounds fishy. We've waited easily over a month...that's a pretty long wait IMO. They have us by the balls, though, since all we can do is wait. :frown:

the iPad is missing a lot of stuff, the main being multi-tasking. It can only single task. To me, it's just a bigger, more glorified version of the iPhone.

Apple has always been bad about coming up with 1 new idea then just re-selling it over and over with new names and no new features.

Ahahaha great stuff! So yeah, I was actually looking at a Macbook Pro because people are always arguing with me that they're superior, blah, blah, blah...Yeah right, they come with 4gb RAM, a dual core processor, a shitty Nvidia 9400 card...and this is stock for like 1800...HA! Sorry, I am definitely not a fan of Apple. :laugh:
