I have $2,500 to spend on my new laptop and I need help and advice getting the most for my money! I like the 9262 and think it would be perfect for me, I would not be moving it much and would keep it plugged in to power source. I want a gaming computer but I have not played many graphical games, but I want to! Any suggestions would be helpful!
thanks

If you can upgrade later yourself... then go with a base NP9262 with maybe a cpu upgrade. this can be upgraded(at a later time when you have more cash) to a MONSTER of a gaming machine. If you don't want to spend a bunch more cash later, I suggest maxing out the NP5793. This will definatly blow your mind. plus you can get a few upgrades off the bat... ok gotta go... screaming kids... others will post opinions as well :)

Thanks,
That is just the kind of advice, I was hoping for. My son told me that the price of some of the components will go down, in a year?

If your not a mobile person, then I agree that the NP9262 is probably for you. If your not a hardcore gamer, then stick to the minimum specs. Unfortunately the 8700M GT is no longer offered because that would be the biggest budget saver. There is no possible way you can cap the NP9262 at under $2500, but more like $2600+.

I would suggest this configuration as a place to start:

WSXGA (1680x1050)
Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66 Ghz
2 GB Dual Channel RAM
160 GB HD 7200 RPM
nVidia 8800M GTX
OS of your choice

This will be slightly more than $2600, but will be a strong setup, with room for upgrades.

The NP5793 is always there as a more cost effective alternative, if you don't mind mobile processors, slightly slower RAM, and no SLI capabilities.

Hopefully this helps you with your decision :) .

I am not a hardcore gamer and probably never will be, are there any other reasons to want SLI other than it sounds stupendous? What reason does someone like me need more than one hard driver? Will a NP9262 be functional longer than the NP5793?
This is what I will be doing with my computer, I want to check out some of those online visual environments that my present computer will not let me do. I need new my computer to last, hopefully more than three years and have it be as fast as possible and up tp date as long as possible. I have played a text based game for years and would love to try a graphical game, but I will probably never play first person shooter games. Of course email and surfing.
I am a painter and work at home and am alone a lot...my computer is my companion, information resource and outlet.
Thanks

If your not a hardcore gamer, than SLI is just money wasted. one of the current gpus will give you plenty of bang for your buck. Adding a second gpu for $800 to get 50% increase on something you will most likely never use would be a waste. The advantage of a second hard drive is you don't have to wait for technology to offer larger hard drives(and prices to drop) to get more storage. The NP9262 will probably last longer than the NP5793 because more upgrades will be possible. If your not planning on getting into first person shooters, or the most recent games on the market. than the NP5793 may even be to much computer for what you need. (hieracy, I know!)

here is a breakdown for a 2500 limit
Sager NP5793 (Built on Clevo M570RU-U / M571RU-U)
- 17" WSXGA+ Glossy Screen (1680x1050)
- Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
- T9300 45nm "Penryn" Core™2 Duo 2.5GHz w/6MB L2 800MHz FSB
- 512MB nVidia GeForce 8800M GTX DX10
4,096MB DDR2 667 PC2 5300 (2 SODIMMS) $75 OFF When Purchased with 8800M GTX
- ~ 200GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache)
- Smart Li-ion Battery (8-Cell)
- ~Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit Installed
- 3 Year Labor* 1 Year Parts Warranty
$2,499.00

SAGER NP9262 (Built on Clevo D900C / D901C)
- 17" WSXGA+ Glossy Screen (1680x1050)
- Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
- Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz w/ 4MB L2 1333MHz FSB
- 512MB nVidia GeForce 8800GTX
- ~ 2,048MB DDR2 800 (1 SODIMM) Memory
~ 80GB 5400RPM (Serial-ATA 150)
- Smart Li-ion Battery (12 Cell)
- ~Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit
- 3 Year Labor* 1 Year Parts Warranty
$2,519.00

As you can see, for the price you are looking at. the only advantage the NP9262 has is a slightly faster proccessor. while the NP5793 can have double the memory and a larger/faster hard drive

I think the NP5793 is the winner in this price range

In that case the NP5793 may be a much better choice. Although it may have less room for upgrades, you will be getting top notch technology in it for a better price.

Drop the Turbo Memory, it`s useless for now. Also, a T9300 is the best choice, it`s not worth over 100$ for an increase of 100 Mhz in CPU speed.
I suggest getting a bigger warranty for piece of mind.
Other than that, the config looks nice.

1GB Intel® Robson Turbo Memory (Vista Only)

I've seen a lot of skepticism regarding robson caching, but the conclusion of this test (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1936637,00.asp) makes me think it could be worth it... especially if you're not going to be able to upgrade to solid-state disks in the future.

It is certainly a gamble, since the use cases for that 1gb cache go down when you have 4gb of main memory.

Excellent choice :D . The 8700M GT is only half as powerful as the 8800M GTX, but should serve your gaming needs well and is also a heck of a lot cheaper. XPC Dude is right about the processor, but I have turbo memory and boot in less than 45 sec. I think this setup will be exactly what your looking for. Goodluck 8) !

Three things you should know about your changes:

1) Dropping to the 1680X1050 resolution isn't necessarily a downgrade. The screen will still be very crisp, but text will be larger and more readable than at 1920X1200. This may be a good choice for you if reading text is an issue or just a money saver.

2) I would suggest upping the 80 GB HD at 5400 RPM to a 100 GB HD at 7200 RPM. The 7200 RPM has much better performance in games and other applications. Also, about 20 GB is occupied by system files, so you really will only have 60 GB of room for your stuff.

3) The 8800M GTX will play ANY game out there at MAX settings (you have to settle for medium/high on Crysis though).

If you can afford it, then get the 8800M GTX. You will love it :) .

Here,
I hope I did not leave anything out this time! Also, about the warranty, do you know if it can be upgraded later? It seems good enough to start out with and not upgrading it now would leave me the $ I need for the 8800 card! Also thanks for the tip about the screen, yes in terms of print, bigger is better for me!
thanks again!
