Been looking around on the forums and noticed that there is a lot uninstalling and updating to get this laptop to run optimally. Anyone know of a comprehensive posting that covers clean install, necessary drivers and updates, Regedit, etc?

This is a very untrue statement, what you have read is simply user preference and not instructions on performance requirements.

1. Updating drivers is something you will have to do on any PC no matter how new, period. Really the only updating you would need to do is the video drivers to get the best performance from some new games.

2. Uninstalling the programs that come pre-installed is simply a matter of choice and preference based on each user, the G73 comes out of the box ready to go. The only thing I would suggest you NOT do is update the BIOS to the newest version because it seems to disable the backlit keyboard function, but will assuredly be restored in their next version.

3. A clean install is totally unnecessary, at best you might need to remove some of the pre-installed software from ASUS, but it uninstalls cleanly so their is no reason to do a total reformat.

4. The Regedit command is only for 1 option, the on-screen display of certain keys (Caps Lock, Num Lock) as is tends to force games out of full-screen if hit during gameplay. If you don't play games on the G73 then you do not need to adjust this setting. I'd also like to clarify that this Regedit command is simply to turn the on-screen commands off, it isn't considered a "hack" or anything that would void any form of warranty and if done properly will not corrupt the registry.

Anything else you want to update, change, format etc etc is solely up to you and anything you read here or anywhere is at the discretion of that particular user and in no way indicates that the changes we (the forum users) make are required to make the system perform better. The changes we have made are because we prefer them a certain way and we feel more comfortable with those settings, in most cases our changes aren't backed up with proof of performance increases.

With that said here are some of the links you requested, I will try and locate more later.

Thanks for your comprehensive answer. I have read that the creative sound blaster software causes freeze ups on certain games.
