Installed, shows every component except my Video Card. My laptop is the Asus G73JH-A1, have uninstalled it and reinstalled it but to no avail. Any idea what might be wrong? And I am also running the newest Catalyst 10.4

Maybe you don't have the newest version of the HW Monitor?

v1.15 works on my G73

Ok, I think I might understand now what the issue is. I had not yet updated to the official 10.4 drivers from the 10.4a hotfix version I was using from a week ago.

I first tried installing the 10.4 mobility drivers, which went all wrong! First, the desktop resolution was set to 800x600 and my max resolution was 1400x something and had no widescreen resolution options. Secondly it would not identify any of the hardware, monitor was generic and it couldn't even identify the video card. So I did a system restore to get rid of that and downloaded and installed the normal 10.4 (non-mobility, non-Eyefinity version) and so far everything seems to be normal

At this time I can't suggest anyone updates to the official 10.4 (See posts below)

Windows 7 x64 10.4 Suite (Non-mobility) (http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=win7/windows-7-64bit)

Windows 7 x64 10.4 Mobility Suite (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx)

I also confirmed that the v1.15 HW Monitor works with the non-mobility drivers

After installing the latest official 10.4 drivers (Non-mobility) every time I try and play an online map in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 my system hard locks when trying to enter a server.

I will try a few more things and report back later with any findings, but I do not suggest anyone upgrade from 10.4a if they haven't already.

I am using the mobility drivers 10.4 on my n71 with the 5730, and they seemed odd after install (800x600 res and 1440x900 max) but a reboot and setup finished and everything returned to normal...1600x900 for me and no issues at all. I downloaded and installed the day of release on the 28th.

and HWmonitor works fine, too. and I have the latest on that.

Update:

I again tried the mobility 10.4 and this time I restarted the system (as per a post I found someplace else) and after adjusting my gadgets HW Monitor v1.15 works.

However, 10.4 Mobility STILL hard locks my system when trying to enter into a server.

At this time I can't suggest anyone updates to the official 10.4

Is there another program that gives me my Hardware Information?

everest ultimate, cpu-z, there are others, but I like these two. Everest is very detailed.
nice thing about HWmon is that it gives the max and min since you started it, haven't figured out if everest can, still learning everything it can do. cpu-z gives info but not the temps.

To OP as others said what version HWMonitor are you using? Try a different one.

Well, I am unsure what the cause it but BC2 locks up when I try and join a server and after a few minutes of playing in singleplayer.

Now, Im unsure if it is the 10.4, 10.4a or the recent BC2 patch... anyway I havent really played on my laptop in a few weeks but now my system full hard locks in BC2.

I have read a few posts here and there that seem to relate it to sound drivers conflicting in BC2, some with ATI video drivers but nothing that seems to really pinpoint the issue.

I plan on installing a few more games tonight and testing on them as well and see if I have any more issues.

Everest Ultimate is by far the most useful hardware monitor. It's hard to figure out at first but it includes everything from Benchmarks that you can use to compare with other hardware, stress tests, CPU, GPU, Memory, Hard drive; everything is there, just a matter of finding it which takes seconds after getting used to. Much better than CPUID's Hardware Monitor. Although it does not show the max temperature of your sensors, theres a quick report button which sums all the information needed within the launch of Everest, so for the Sensors, or if you're in another tab, for any other information that constantly changes. Check it out!

Everest is a very nice app. That said I like the HWMonitor for it's simplicity and what it does. When monitoring temps it just beats Everest. SiSoft Sandra is another good app along the lines of Everest. I like the GUI of Sisoft more than Everest. Sisoft and Everest both have free versions. I would use trial versions and decide which of the two you like best if you are going to pay. Notebook Hardware Control is another fun app and free.

Belarc Advisor is free for private use and prints out system info.

Core Temp displays core temps in my system tray, free. I use NHC to show TJ temp in system tray.

So much fun free stuff out there.

I tried both Everest and Sandra, but I liked everest more and bought a license for it. it is quite handy, it needs more benchmarks. lol.

I think I have the 10.4a driver....BC2 works fine for about an hour and BOOM frrezes up and crashes on me. I can log in and all, but somtimes I get a weird thing going on? Suddenly it will start typing letters in the upper right hand corner? Instead of W moving me forward, it will start typing it? Then I try exiting out of it, and CRASH!!!

Sounds like you opened up the game console some how.. Not sure how that relates to a crash, however.

I will be adding two monitors to the Asus G73JH-A1 when I am using it at my desk. One will come out of the HDMI port and the other will use the ViBook adaptor out of the USB port. I would like the monitors to handle HD(1080) and be over 21 inches. Any recommendations for monitors with excellent color, clarity, etc? And not too awful a price( under $350 a piece if possible ). Thanks!

are you doing a lot work with documents or is this just for gaming and such? 1900x1200 may be a better resolution, a good 22-23 inch monitor can be had for 250-300, NEC and Viewsonic are always good brands and get good reviews as long as you don't have deal with their service dept. lol. I have read good things about dell monitors, too. its like with LCD tvs, sometimes its a a matter of opinion, something like this I prefer to see in person, thats just me, so maybe a stop at a sams club or best buy and see the monitors in person might be a good idea.

Both documents and video work. I want the res to be consistent across the three monitors as I slide info from one to the other. At least I think I would want that. Of course the Bluray is in this unit as well. Is it better to have the higher res? How would the Bluray work with that? Would I have to make adjustments each time I use it? Any monitor you would recommend in particular? There are just so many choices and for the money, I would want to look at the best for the price.

Everest is much more capable than most monitoring programs because they can generate the files your wanting to see for min/max/avg temps etc also, it is a bit more complex to setup however. I agree both are good but in overall offerings I will go with Everest every time.

Monitors are a dime a dozen, go with your preference on screen size and price but I will suggest a few selling points to look for.

1. Look for a high native resolution (1080p or higher)

2. Look for a relatively low refresh time (2-5ms) as they perform better while gaming

3. Research the different types of screens, TFT etc and see which one is best suited for your needs and look for a monitor that fits those needs. For an example some screens are better suited for programs like Photoshop etc because they can produce a "truer" color and some screens have really crappy blacks.

4. Read customer reviews (I prefer Newegg myself) to get an idea of quality and colors and how bad is bleed-through (some monitors "bleed" when displaying a black screen)

5. Ports, make sure the ports it offers are compatible with your PC/Laptop and that you wont run into any issues down the road.

6. An overlooked aspect of monitor purchase is the display menu the monitor offers, this can make or break some screens if they have limited ability for adjustment, brightness, contrast etc.

7. I personally prefer screens with the "glossy" finish as I feel they produce richer colors and usually have a higher brightness to them. Matte screens just seem so dull and lifeless to me.

My current monitor is an Acer p234w (Widescreen, 1920x1200 native, 2 ms gtg) and I love it, good colors, refresh etc etc. I've had it for a few years and it still works like new. But there are many great brands out there.
